  1. Looking back at past draft during the Stearns era it looks like every year except 2019 (went heavy on college guys) and 2020 (only 5 rounds) they have signed some guys to over slot bonuses in rounds ten and beyond... Chad McLanahan (1.2M), Max Lazar (475K), Je'Von Ward (475K), Justin Bullock (295K), Korry Howell (210K), Reese Olson (440K), Wade Beasley (255K), Caden Vire (497K), Quinton Lowe (347K) and Jace Avina (255K).
  2. Yeah, Hader has had stretches like this in the past & always bounced back before… 2022: 6 G | 4.1 IP | 24.92 ERA 2021: 6 G | 5.2 IP | 9.53 ERA 2020: 5 G | 4.0 IP | 13.50 ERA 2019: 5 G | 5.2 IP | 9.53 ERA 2019: 7 G | 6.0 IP | 10.50 ERA That’s 37 ER over 25.2 IP in 29 outings during five stretches of blow up outings over the last four seasons. In his other 146 games since 2019 he has given up 16 ER in 157.2 IP for a 0.91 ERA.
  3. I thought Madden’s profile sounded very Brewer-y. Tyler Cleveland & Spencer Giesting are a couple other pitchers still on the board whose scouting reports looked interesting to me. 1B Alan Roden could be an option for that ever elusive bat only prospect.
  4. Reading Wagner’s scouting report…legit power, questionable hit with some swing & miss, arm for 3B but maybe not the actions, from a cold weather state…I got some Alex Binelas flashbacks.
  5. Soto to St. Louis is my guess, so start dreaming up those Big Boy Pants posts now. Goldy and Arenado on the current squad, guys like Holliday and Rolen before that, Cards have somewhat of a history of landing these kind of guys.
  6. Michaelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.
  7. Wanted to double back on this now that the picks are in. Looks like Brown will probably be around #10 on my August ballot. He was born a week before Valerio & they have similar-ish profiles, but Felix is already at AA posting encouraging age appropriate results. Given how competitive the back half of the list is for me, think that Misiorowski (motion to henceforth refer to him simply as "ORO") will have to start posting some results to go along with the electric stuff before he cracks my list.
  8. Moore is also the son of Royals GM Dayton Moore, so he has that Championship DNA. Guess that means he also has that 3rd fewest wins in MLB since being hired DNA.
  9. Needed to keep going just a lil bit more, FG had Robert Moore at #44.
  10. Believe catcher Cade Hunter (#40) and C/1B Malcolm Moore (#41) are still on the board.
  11. The Brewers not having any position players in the current MLB lineup really only means they were bad at drafting them in 2016 since Stearns & company arrived. No first rounder hitter drafted after Hiura in 2017 has a higher WAR so far. 2018 (Turang), 2020 (Mitchell & Wiemer), 2021 (Frelick) and int’l signing Chourio have all made Top 100s at some point & time, so they’ve all been “hits” to this point, it’s just that enough time hasn’t elapsed for them to get to MLB yet for us to start finding out what’s what. 2019 looks pretty rough after Small/Kelly, but even on the position player side David Hamilton was part of the Hunter Renfroe trade, so we have gotten some indirect value on the MLB side already.
  12. Craig Counsell posted 22 WAR over his career, won two World Series and an NLCS MVP. Only four of the position players drafted 1st round in 1992 finished with more career WAR than Craig. 20 WAR (no matter the shape) from a 27th pick would be a pretty excellent outcome. The two rings would be cool too.
  13. Just because Tyrone Taylor & Keston Hiura aren’t currently starting doesn’t mean they haven’t been “starters” on this team at points & times. Arcia also started a lot of games (for better or worse) over the Stearns era, though he wasn’t technically drafted. Only six first round position players have put 2.0 WAR or since the 2016 draft, Hiura is at 1.3. Adjust expectations accordingly, or prepare to keep being disappointed.
  14. Exactly. Much like the Brewers, the Rays have acquired many players via trade or off the scrap heap, which also involves…scouting.
  15. The 2016 1st round has four position players with over 2.0 career WAR, 2017 is zero, 2018 is two, 2019 to present is zero. The idea that the current scouting regime should have drafted & developed multiple (or even one, again Hiura has been the best position player from 2017 we could have drafted) starting position players just doesn’t align with known prospect development timelines. Especially for a team who has been consistently winning & picking late in the draft.
  16. Guys that hit for power & contact with low K rates are typically long gone by #27. At this point, everyone has flaw(s).
  17. The current scouting director has been here for what, six drafts since Montgomery took Ray at #5? How many teams do you think have drafted and developed multiple starting position players out of the last six drafts?
  18. “Brewers hitters strike out too much” <Brewers draft hitter with 38/29 BB/K ratio, 330 AVG and 1000 OPS> “This guy can’t hit.”
  19. These things take time. Hiura was drafted six years ago now & for as terrible as he’s been (1.3 WAR), the only 2017 1st round hitter with more career WAR is Adam Haseley (1.6 WAR) who was selected one pick earlier at #8. Frelick, Wiemer, Mitchell and Turang are all at AA or above, Black could be joining them after the draft. Obviously Chourio wasn’t drafted, but he was scouted.
  20. The team that’s won the 6th most games in baseball since 2018 with a payroll that is a fraction of their competition is bad at scouting? Tough crowd.
  21. Some excerpts from the FanGraphs scouting report… ”Brown is one of the best athletes in the draft class, he has exceptional range at shortstop, and his swing is so explosive that it makes him dangerous even though he has middling raw power.” “He is extremely difficult to make swing and miss, and while he doesn't have the arm for shortstop, he's a premium infield athlete who could be plus at second base. He's not likely to hit for big power, but Brown still projects as a middle infielder with a plus bat,”
  22. Yeah, from the scouting report & brief clip upside seems something like Kolten Wong? Contact, average, speed, defense second baseman. Kinda think the Brewers are counting on short players being more valuable once our robot umpire overlords arrive since they’ll have smaller automated zones.
  23. Reading Drew Gilbert’s scouting reports has some serious Frelick vibes. Could bump Chourio to Wisco, Peters to Biloxi and Sal to Nashville.
  24. Spencer Jones to NYY just makes too much sense.
  25. Draft a college CF, bump Chourio to Wisco, Peters to Biloxi and Frelick to Nashville.
