  1. Check out the 2nd paragraph in this post. Not good news. Looks like he was listed in the team's media guide as having offseason shoulder surgery. Not sure if there has been more recent details.
  2. Title Contender Playoff Contender (Brewers) Mediocrity Rebuild I've got the Brewers precariously straddling the line between Playoff Contender & Mediocrity which makes them about equidistant from both Title Contender & Rebuild. So to answer the question in the thread title, perhaps.
  3. Giants third base coach was the best man at Sedar's wedding.
  4. Granted it's only 35 innings, but still pretty nuts that Jackson hasn't given up a bomb in AAA all season, especially considering they're using the MLB ball. The most innings anyone has pitched in MLB this year without allowing a HR is 29 by...Jordan Yamamoto. With him coming back over from Japan I've pulling for JJ ever since we picked him up & really hope he gets a nice run of getting guys out going.
  5. Guessing this has close to zero predictive value, but I went through all the NLCS teams in the two Wild Card era then noted how they each fared in the following season. With a sample 12 total NLCS teams since 2012, their following season results were... No Playoffs (2) Wild Card (2) NLDS (2) NLCS (3) World Series (3) I figured a sample 24 teams would only be half as irrelevant, so I did the same thing for the AL... No Playoffs (5) Wild Card (0) ALDS (3) ALCS (3) World Series (1)
  6. Pretty interesting article from Jeff Sullivan at FanGraphs (now a member of the Rays front office) about the Orioles consistently managing to beat their projections from 2012-16... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-orioles-are-better-than-we-thought-again/
  7. Bonds, Walker & A-Rod could be three more from the 1997 lineups at some point too. After Trout & Verlander I think the best HOF chances in the starting lineups are probably Yelich, Freeman, Bellinger, Arenado, Acuna & Bregman. Yeli is currently 55th in active WAR & the only guys his age or younger who are above him are Trout, Mookie & Machado. Freeman is probably on more of a Hall of VG track just because 1B is so tough, Bellinger is only 23 but already has 15 WAR & looks like the real deal, the Coors curse should be broken by the time Arenado comes up plus he has the GGs, Acuna is even younger but looks like a monster & Bregman is another guy that looks like a natural at the plate who should age well assuming health.
  8. Yeah, this is pretty much where I'm at too. Though my first ASG memory was Higuera getting struck out by Fernando back in what the internet is telling me was 1986. 1989 always sticks in the memory too with the Bo & Boggs bombs.
  9. There's no prospect that's untouchable for me in the right deal. If we're acquiring a player with multiple years of control at a position of need I'd be fine dealing Turang, Lutz, Grisham, Rasmussen, Ashby, whoever if Stearns & company think we're getting good value back. For a rental though? No way. My best guess is Stearns & company will do the same thing they did last deadline & deal prospects they view as superfluous for minor upgrades around the margins.
  10. 44 BF.net predictions in this thread came up with an average of about 91 wins (90.77 if I mathed right) versus preseason projections of 85 (ZIPS), 86 (538) & 88 (BPro). Currently on pace for 83-84 wins.
  11. & Joc matching him bomb for bomb. Wow.
  12. Figured I'd start a thread in case anyone wanted to discuss the dingers or try to figure out why Roberts is batting Baez second even though he has the lowest OBP in the lineup.
  13. Brewers Playoff Odds At The Break... FG: 38% 538: 39% BRef: 38%
  14. This qualifies as optimism how?
  15. My dream scenario for Mauricio is a pinch hit RBI with a runner on third & less than two outs. Instant BF.net IGT legend status achieved.
  16. Over the past calendar year Yelich has hit 344/435/709 (191 wRC+) with 56 HR & 31 SB good for 10.6 WAR.
  17. We've gone 5-5 in the 10 games Yelich hasn't started to this point. Yes, he's our best player, but it's hardly waving the white flag to give him a rest to start the game then let him pinch hit should a high leverage opportunity maybe present itself at some point.
  18. Here's some of the HS pitchers picked in proximity to Caden & what they've done professionally to this point... 37. Landon Leach (career IP: 34, 2019 IP: 0) 40. Michael Mercado (career IP: 71, 2019 IP: 0) 42. Steven Jennings (career IP: 168, 2019 IP: 76) 46. Caden Lemons (career IP: 34, 2019 IP: 0) 54. Matt Sauer (career IP: 87, 2019 IP: 8) 55. Sam Carlson (career IP: 3, 2019 IP: 0)
  19. Slugging is up across AAA since they are using the MLB ball this year. Dubon's 307/343/491 line is good for a dead even 100 wRC+.
  20. What I remember is the Dodgers (& likely the Brewers & other interested teams) discussing trade scenarios with the Orioles leading up to the deadline. Based on Machado being traded to Los Angeles it would seem as though Baltimore thought they offered the best prospects of the interested clubs. The amateur market (where the prospects came from) already is capped with controlled spending. I guess what I am struggling to understand is how not having a cap on MLB salaries prevented us from trading prospects for Manny Machado?
  21. He has thrown 34 professional innings & is still only 20 years old. The kid can't even get (legally) wasted yet, seems a little early to write it off as a wasted pick.
  22. Pair Giannis up with the most ball dominant inefficient chucker in the league on a contract that makes Middleton's look like a bargain? Pass.
  23. We've won the 8th most games in MLB since Attanasio hired Stearns. I think they share the "blame" for that in some proportion (along with Counsell & the players themselves & the rest of the field staff & front office).
