If this team has a run in them it needs to start now. Currently sitting in WC3 behind MIN at 5-3-1 & CAR at 6-3. If they can pull off 2-1 between @SEA on short rest this week, @MIN & @CHI, plus win all their home games, I think this team has a good shot at the postseason. Two more losses is probably curtains. Gonna be tough, but as long as AR12 is back there we have a shot.
Another aspect with Taylor is just prospect fatigue. His value probably was at its peak after the 2014 season when he posted a 107 wRC+ in High-A & made the BA list at number 93. He followed that up with an 84 wRC+ at AA in 2015 & an 86 wRC+ repeating AA in 2016 before being injured for most of the 2017 season. That's three straight years of falling stock. He had an OK bounce back this year, but I think posters are going to need to see more before they start buying in after that essentially lost stretch from 2015-17.
Yeah, top to bottom is CC, Halladay, Verlander, Kershaw & Greinke. King Felix is 7th at 2658 IP | 8.35 K9 | 2.64 BB9 | .84 HR9 | 3.34 ERA | 3.46 FIP | 51.8 WAR
Good deal for CC. Gets to take one last shot at a ring with what will likely be another stacked Yankees squad needing 4 Wins/14 Strikeouts to hit 250/3,000 in what should be a Hall of Fame career. Just for fun here are the top 5 pitchers in MLB per FanGraphs since CC debuted in 2001... 3470 IP | 7.74 K9 | 2.75 BB9 | .92 HR9 | 3.70 ERA | 3.72 FIP | 67.8 WAR 2518 IP | 7.07 K9 | 1.68 BB9 | .72 HR9 | 3.17 ERA | 3.19 FIP | 64.6 WAR 2759 IP | 8.83 K9 | 2.64 BB9 | .89 HR9 | 3.39 ERA | 3.42 FIP | 63.6 WAR 2096 IP | 9.77 K9 | 2.30 BB9 | .62 HR9 | 2.39 ERA | 2.64 FIP | 61.6 WAR 2663 IP | 8.23 K9 | 2.15 BB9 | .92 HR9 | 3.39 ERA | 3.39 FIP | 56.7 WAR
Couple questions about JT in Kiley McDaniel's FG chat today & also sounds like he has a more in depth article on the topic dropping tomorrow... Larry | So if the Marlins want a position player and pitcher from Atlanta for Realmuto, what does that look like? Riley and Soroka? Kiley McDaniel | Those two probably make the most sense, and if you had to add a third piece, it wouldn't be much Lazzaro Da Fietta | Dodgers' K. Ruiz and A. Verdugo to Marlins for Realmuto. Who says no? Kiley McDaniel | I think LA says no and tries to get him for a little less, but they first need to find out if Grandal is taking the QO but that isn't way off
In 85 games for the Orioles last year Schoop hit 244/273/447, good for a 96 OPS+ & 1.3 WAR. Sure, the OBP is ugly but league average 2B in 2018 only hit 254/317/397, so he's trading 44 points in OBP for 50 points in SLG. League average is not terrible. Like I said, ignore his one hot streak: April: .610 May: .648 June: .516 This whole “change of scenery” causing struggle excuse is a complete lack of research and looking at the numbers. He sucked in Baltimore too. That Aug/Sept Schoop showed up almost all year. Schoop started the year slow. Then he strained his oblique. Maybe lingering effects contributed to his struggles in May & June? Maybe he was already feeling some discomfort at the beginning of the year before it popped and he had to DLed? Who knows? In July he posted a 184 wRC+, 7th best in MLB. Maybe his one hot streak (that lasted an entire month) was a result of finally feeling healthy & getting his swing back? Who knows? It seems like our front office believed it was at least partially a positive indicator as I don't see them trading for anyone who they believe clearly sucked. Or was a turd. But why focus on a bunch of small, sliced up samples & unanswerable questions in the first place? The body of work shows that Schoop is a league average second baseman, whose poor approach leads to a higher volatility in his year to year results since his offense relies almost entirely on BABIP success. Is that worth 10 million on a one year deal to a team in Milwaukee's position on the financial financial spectrum & win curve? We'll find out eventually.

Hard to project even the best prospect to be better than a Hall of Famer, but when Vlad Senior was Vlad Junior's age he was still in rookie ball. I'd say Vlad Junior looks like a generational hitter, but after what Acuña & Soto did this year there is some serious competition. One advantage Vlad Senior had was that his defense was judged by reputation moreso than results. Vlad Junior will not have that same luxury. He is already a very large man & it will be interesting to see how his defense looks/grades out once he gets to MLB.
In the three years before he was traded Yelich had a 124 wRC+ & 12.1 WAR (28th in MLB, 8th among OF). The season immediately before he was traded Yelich was at 118 wRC+ & 4.6 WAR. In the last three years Realmuto has posted a 115 wRC+ & 12.3 WAR (24th in MLB, 1st among catchers). Last season Realmuto was at a 126 wRC+ & 4.8 WAR. Their performance is about as equal as it can get. Yes, Yelich had more team control, but there is also a much greater supply of good outfielders. Realmuto has been very comparable to Yelich performance wise, but at a position with a much smaller supply of good players. Less supply typically results in greater demand, which is a big reason why Fan-graphs had Yelich & Realmuto at 22 & 24 on their trade value rankings that came out during the 2018 ASG.
Brinson prior to the trade had a 60 FV from Fangraphs & ranked #16 on their top 100 vs Hiura who is currently at 55 FV & ranked #22 on their prospect board. Coming into the season Burnes was ranked between #69-80, Woodruff was on one list at #61 & missed the top 100 on the other two while Peralta has never made a top 100. Of course all three have had success at the MLB level so their value has gone up since prospect season, which is why I believe their individual values are comparable to the same general range as Harrison & Diaz combined at the time they were dealt. I agree that Brinson/Harrison doesn't add up to Hiura/Burnes. I'm saying that Brinson/Harrison/Diaz is about the same ballpark in value as Hiura/one of Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff.
Again, this package is more than what we gave up for Yelich...therefore not even close to realistic. Brinson was ranked between 18-27 at the time of trade (bout the same as Hiura), Harrison between 49-75 with Isan Diaz as a back end top 100 guy (same general range as the three Ps have been ranked) & Yamamoto as the depth piece. Fangraphs had Realmuto at 24 on their 2018 trade value rankings & Yelich at 22...therefore just about the same.
Cain was at +20 DRS, +8.7 UZR & 19 Outs Above Average. Inciarte was at +17 DRS, +7.2 UZR & 21 Outs Above Average. That's about as close as you can get given the margin of error inherent with single season defensive metrics.
A lot depends on how the team does over the next two tree seasons. Early returns on coach Bud are definitely encouraging. Working in the Bucks favor are that they can offer the largest contract when the time comes & Giannis genuinely seems to love Milwaukee.
Yeah, feel like any deal for Realmuto begins with Hiura plus one of Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff & another back end top 10 guy. Nottingham is more like the fourth piece in any package, not the second.
Davies/Domingo would give Cleveland a pair of solid MLB pieces & save them about 14 million bucks. Would obviously have to add another player or two, but it's probably all academic anyway as I don't think Cleveland will end up moving Kluber.
A worse hitter, sure. The main difference between Manny & Hanley is their fielding ability, +73 defensive runs saved for Manny through age 25 compared to -32 for Hanley. Agree that 13/390 is probably a little steep. Think he comes in closer to 10/300.
Not the hitting coach, the assistant hitting coach. Cubs batters 2017 | 108 wRC+ Cubs batters 2018 | 107 wRC+ How much of that one point decrease in wRC+ can we confidently attribute to the assistant hitting coach?
Really kind of odd that Moose would turn down a 1/15 option from us if his market really is 2/16. Unless he just already knew we weren't going to exercise 1/15 from our end either. They had Moose at 5/85 last year, so they really whiffed that one. There was the rumored 3/45 offer early in FA that was turned down, but of course Boras is going to deny that after the way things played out. I expect another long winter for Moose.
MLBTR with some free agent predictions... Yasmani Grandal, 4/64 Wilson Ramos, 3/36 Martin Maldonado, 2/8 Kurt Suzuki, 2/8 Lucroy did not get a prediction. Would be pretty crazy for Maldonado to land a bigger contract than Luc.
Some MLBTR predictions for 2B/3B options... Manny Machado, 13/390 Josh Donaldson, 1/20 Marwin Gonzalez, 4/36 Jed Lowrie, 3/30 Daniel Murphy, 2/20 Brian Dozier, 1/10 DJ LeMahieu, 2/18 Mike Moustakas, 2/16
