0.5 GB in WC. I’m surprise the Reds are tied with Milwaukee, too. The Giants and Padres don’t seem so tough anymore. The NL West will probably best each other down, too.

It seems absurd the number of former Brewers pitching for the White Sox. Smith and Alexander getting knocked around by Cardinals. Houser pitching well. Bryce Wilson was DFA’d. Civale pitched alright the other day.

Brewers still have room to improve. The Cubs probably can only regress. Shota returning probably helps, though.

It’s possible I’m naive but I don’t remember seeing such a low FIP and high ERA like Brown.

Semi seriousness, .333 OBP on 21 PA isn’t enough to DFA the guy. What he needs is more PA!

At the same time, you are right that the Wild Card is a more reasonable target.

I’m still not sold on Chicago running away with things. Their offense can legitimately be good and still have plenty of room to regress. They lost series against Detroit and Philadelphia. They played four 1-run games against the Pirates.

All things being equal, I’d rather have the scrappy unproven player that might surprise us than the 33 year old veteran who has proven himself to be mediocre or worse since 2022.

He doesn’t seem good enough to give anyone trouble. I recall having him on the ropes in the first inning last year before he bounced back.

If Civale publicly agrees that he isn’t a major league starter then he will have more difficult time selling his services as a reliable middle of the rotation or backend starter in the offseason.

I agree. For as much as we sometimes gripe, Civale has more value than being simply discarded or DFA’d. A contending team could do worse than Civale as their # 5.
