  1. They were doing such a good job in their rebuild. It's such a pointless signing at such a non-premium position for such an average player. It almost makes me think ownership said go spend some money on a "name" player for fan interest. I think that is exactly what that was. Who buys tickets to see Hosmer? Maybe the goal was win 72 games instead of 71?
  2. San Diego is such a pathetic team. Why in the world did they waste $140M on Hosemer? For what possible purpose did they want him?
  3. 85 wins being the average here looks reasonable. They won 86 games with pretty much everyone but Braun and Villar having career years in the lineup. They dramatically upgraded the top of the lineup with two high on base guys who both play very good D assuming Yelich is exclusively in LF. They downgraded the pitching staff due to not replacing Jimmy and sorry, depth does not equal an ace. Ever. Young Players on the rise: Arcia Santana Davies Harder Key Players on regression/age watch Shaw: 50/50 on this. Never had the pedigree for this kind of performance so how can you trust it? Thames: pretty much a given. The guy isn’t very good. Braun: age and injuries. Pina: you never count on 30 year old catchers hitting well. Anderson: like Shaw, he never did this before so it’s difficult to trust this level of production. Kneble only because he had one of the best bullpen years in Brewers history. The game changer: This is not a young team so the window is short. If they are in the thick of it in July, will they make a big move for a TOR arm? Looks to me like they are willing to wait and see if 2017 wasn’t a fluke and they will make a big trade if they are for real.
  4. Win-Loss Record: 82-80 Playoffs (Yes, No): No Highest Playoff Level Achieved: None All Star Game Representative(s): Hader, Yelich Offensive Player of the Year: Yelich Pitcher of the Year: Hader Most Surprising Player: Arcia Most Disappointing Player: Pina, Chacin
  5. GM talk. He added mostly older players so the whole let the young guys play thing seems odd. The top of the line up is much improved and if DJ can hold the rotation until Jimmy comes back the team will be competitive. I still can see us trying for a blockbuster trade to add a starter.
  6. [sarcasm]No, it would be best if everyone had the exact same opinion on every subject.[/sarcasm]
  7. By young and controllable I assume that Stearn's version means Yo, Miley, and Chacin? This off-season has taught us our route will be the farm and dumpster diving when it comes to pitching. I'd be interested to see if we can make a Quintana type of deal at some point though.
  8. Thank Goodness the Mets bailed us out. The Astros might be the best trade in Brewers history and it almost didn't happen.
  9. They shouldn’t have signed Cain if our best offer was $12M for a legitimate SP. Silly FO.
  10. Agreed. They want hard in January but something happened to make them do an almost 180. It does not appear wins and losses matter but rather to set up for future years.
  11. When did the fans of a team named for beer makers, playing in Miller park, playing in a city known for beer, become the high class sip a beer with your pinky out type people haha? I wish we had a like button.
  12. We suggest we are contenders yet we have page after page after page regarding Wade Miley. I can’t imagine what Cardinal and Cubs fans would think if they saw this.
  13. It is when the teams number one prospect was a CF who they purposely targeted in a blockbuster trade. You don’t sign a 32 year old guy for $80M and give up a high draft pick to be a WC contender, which is all they are with this rotation, Cain or no Cain. We will have to agree to disagree.
  14. Their top 6 starting pitchers are >>>> than our top 8 starting pitchers If that is in any way debatable in some Brewers fans minds, than I’m not sure what is left to say. Depth is certainly important but Miley, Yo, and Junior are technically depth but they are hardly good depth. Signing a 32 year old OF to a large contract and giving up a draft pick while not addressing what is an obvious weakness is simply not good management no matter the spin.
  15. The rotation isn’t good enough to compete with the Cubs. At all. I’m not sure Cobb, Lynn, or even Archer changes that but it would certainly get us closer. Losing Jimmy really stings and no, Chacin and his away from Petco stats say he will be a batting practice pitcher in Miller. Stearns seems pretty content to leave the rotation in this condition. I’m sure there’s a story behind the scenes why the team went hard after Cain and Yelich then raised the white flag.
  16. I'm not so sure. I think they took smart risks. I also like the fact that they put Braun under pressure to play 1B, which was in their best interests. Aguilar does not have nearly the track record to suggest he's in Braun's class as a hitter, even if Braun continues to have injuries and show signs of decline. And I wouldn't be surprised if Braun is a better fielder than Aguilar and Thames as well. I like the moves. Get the best risk:reward ratios and go from there. Needs change and so do trade opportunities. They're a very smart front office. I'm glad they passed on all these starters at the prices they got. I’m not seeing smart at all here. On paper, this is a very bad rotation. That’s why they play the games of course but this sure looks like unfinished business and not a smart plan at all.
  17. Lynn and Cobb look to be some serious bargains. I’d love to know what happened inside our FO after the Cain Yelich deals. Going into a promising season with our OF/1B and that rotation seems to be a real disconnect.
  18. Let’s hope so. We really Jimmy to come back at 2017 levels ASAP.
  19. I’m not sure Cobb is anything but a solid 3 but I can’t believe a team that wants to contend is going into the season with Chacin, Miley, and Woodruff/Suter as our 3-5. Let’s hope they know something analytics does not.
  20. We have miles of data but we really don’t know a lot about these guys as people and that is really important. For example, most of us hated the Marcum Lawrie trade until those pics and his story finally made its way to the public. The guy was a clown and no amount of bat speed and exit velocity was going to make him the building block player we thought we had in our system.
  21. So we really are going into the season with Chacin, Miley, and Woodard are our 3-5?
  22. We seem to value “chemistry” guys, like Sogard and Vogt who on paper aren’t good players but they seem to do the intangibles well.
  23. Jeffress responds well to Milwaukee. For whatever reason he can focus here. He is not a star and he isn’t young, but he is just about the least of our worries.
