  1. Yeah. I'm about good on Shaw. He has had a really long leash. But since he has options, its time to go to AAA to figure it out.
  2. As others have said, if Shaw doesn't start hitting by June, Stearns will not have a choice but to send him to 2B. You just cant hit under .200 at 3B in the majors.
  3. Turang is my pick for "riser" thus far. He is actually very young for Wisconsin, yet he is demonstrating very advanced plate discipline. If he puts on a little muscle, look out. This is what his wiry 2019 frame did to RF this year (https://www.milb.com/video/turangs-rbi-double/c-2376424883). You cant teach that BB/K ratio or obp. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a taste of Carolina this year.
  4. I personally don't think this team has enough starting pitching to make the World Series this year. If you dont have the horses to win big, then IMHO, sell. This team is prime for selling: 1. Chacin: If he continues to pitch well, he could bring a haul. I don't see many top end pitchers on the market this year. I really think many would be surprised with the return. 2. Grandal: He's not Lucroy from a few years ago, but he would bring at least one top notch prospect. 3. Hader: Excellent sell high candidate. With many years of control, you are talking the Ken Giles return from a few years ago. 4. Moose: Not going to bring a haul, but could at least bring back a Brett Phillips. 5. Anderson: If he pitches well someone might be interested. doubt he brings back a haul though. 6. Thames. I think someone would bite on him as a pinch hitter, although I think he would be more of a salary dump with little return. As others have stated, if the Brewers sell they will not be in rebuild mode. Instead it will be more of an Athletics mode. Churn some useful players to re-stock the system. Then come back and try to compete in 2020.
  5. Hiura is making a mockery of AAA pitching. Its going to be hard to keep him down all season.
  6. Ding ding. I think we have a winner. In addition. I think Guerra has moved from the long man to a setup guy.
  7. I saw him pitch a perfect inning in Arizona. There wasn't any radar readings but he clearly showed a live arm but more impressive was his mound presence. If you didn't know better, you'd have figured he was a major league pitcher and not some fringy guy. I saw him pitch in spring, at Camelback Ranch, versus the Dodgers. He was 90-93 and mowed down some good hitters. Note: Jackson and Houser were the two pitchers that surprisingly impressed me in spring. However, I think both are relievers moving forward .
  8. If they call anyone up to man 2B for just a week I think it’s more likely to be Jake Hager. I think once they ultimately call up Keston it will be with the intent for him to be a major leaguer for the foreseeable future. EDIT: Saladino was called up earlier today, so they are probably all set on the middle infield for the time being. Yep. I really really don't think they are eager to start Hiura's clock.
  9. I ranked him high (#6) in my pre-2019 Brewers Top 25 Prospects list, so yeah, I like him. He has really good stuff and a really high ceiling. I think he will be an MLB bullpen option sooner than later. The question, can he stay healthy?
  10. I wholeheartedly disagree with the opinion that this deal is awful. Albies is 22. He could blow out his knee next week, never play again and walk away with 35 million. Not bad. He could also stop trying to be good at baseball, get released in two years, and walk away with $35 million. Not bad. If this deal was offered and Albies turned it down he would essentially be taking a $35 million risk. In my opinion, that would be dumb.
  11. Exactly. After his 2019 I doubt he has much value. I'm sure they could get something, but not much. Certainly not selling high.
  12. I spent some significant time at spring training this year. Here is my list with comments. 1 Hiura K - Does nothing but hit. 2 Brown Z - Ceiling not as high as Woodruff or Burnes but could be Davies part 2. 3 Turang B - Long way to go but the bat and athleticism look elite. 4 Ashby A - 95 mph fastball with a nasty 12-6 curve. I have him as my 2019 breakout pitcher. 5 Ray C - I've never been high on Ray and I'm still not. Too many K's. 6 Rasmussen D - TOR stuff. Could be the steal of the 2018 draft. 7 Houser A - Nasty stuff. Very impressive in spring training. 8 Webb B - Reminds me Taylor Williams. 9 Olczak J - Impressive at spring training. I think he is a big league reliever. 10 Griep N - Always overlooked. Another solid bullpen arm. 11 Sanchez M - Opened eyes at spring trianing. Another bullpen arm. 12 Supak T - Big dude with big fastball. 13 Nottingham J - Star is dim and almost extinguished. 14 Erceg L - Good power but low obp still. Major bummer. 15 Hinojosa CJ - Pretty much interchangeable with Dubon. 16 Dubon M - Likely not going to hit enough to be an everyday MLB SS. 17 Lutz T - Not impressed at spring training. Not as big as I thought. Also don't like his swing. 18 Diplan M - Stock falling. Bad spring. 19 Stokes T - Low batting average and not enough power to compensate. 20 Henry P - Not impressive this spring. 21 Grisham T - Low BA, high OBP. Goodness if he cuts down the K's and gets a few more hits. 22 Gatewood J - I don't think its going to happen for Jake. 23 Wahl B - Solid bullpen arm. 24 Lemons K - High upside. 25 Taylor T - Ceiling is a decent 4th outfielder. 26 Perdomom L - Good stuff but very unrefined. 27 Hill A - Solid college arm.
  13. I am of the belief that Tyler Saladino and Tyrone Taylor are likely the first ones off the 40 man if a signing/acquisition occurs. Spangenburg is a better hitter than Saladino and can play both INF and OF.
  14. Hinojosa was drafted by the Astros back in 2012 so I'm guessing Stearns liked Hinojosa. Seems like a pretty solid return for Kratz.
  15. Excellent. I am very familiar with Tempe. Here are my suggestions #1. If you are willing to venture away from the hotel for breakfast I suggest you hit Matt's Big Breakfast, 400 E Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe, AZ 85281. Be sure to get there before 9:00 am. If not, you'e going to be dealing with a huge line. This place has excellent food and very reasonable prices. #2. Hit up Tempe Marketplace on a Friday or Saturday night. 2000 E Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe, AZ 85281. They have live music. There are also some great places to eat. I am a fan of the Thirsty Lion and Kabuki. There is also a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf located here if you are into coffee. #3. The Desert Botanical Garden. If you are from the Midwest you will enjoy a trip to the Desert Botanical Garden. I recommend going in the daytime. However, if you will be going to baseball games, consider going at night and seeing Electric Desert, the really cool exhibit they have going on now. https://www.dbg.org/exhibits/electric-desert/2019-05-12/ #4. Golf. If you are into golf I recommend Rolling Hills Golf Course. Good course and good price. 1415 N Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281 #5. Hit up Gilbert. Gilbert, AZ is a Phoenix hotspot right now, I recommend driving through Gilbert and eating at "The Perch." 232 S Wall St, Chandler, AZ 85225. Really cool brewhouse with tropical birds all over the place. Its a real unique place.
  16. Arizona native here, and Tucson resident. Here are my general comments: 1. Go to as many games as possible. I recommend visiting Maryvale and seeing a game there. Just make sure you get to the park about 2 hours before the game. There are fields located just south of the stadium. If you walk over there you will likely find either major league or minor leaguers working out. After the game, I wouldnt hang around Maryvale. Go eat dinner in Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe etc. I also highly recommend seeing some road games. None of the current facilities in AZ are dumps at this point. However, the Cubs and Giants stadiums regularly sell out and tickets are through the roof. 2. Phoenix is a very big place. As a result, what you do likely depends on where you are staying. Golf is great. The Phoenix Zoo is wonderful if you are taking children(and it is central). Let me know what area you are staying and I can give you some better ideas.
  17. Only if the Dozier of last season is the hitter he'll remain going forward. Instead, it could have simply been a bad season for him. The two seasons prior Dozier posted OPS totals of .886 and .856, with much better OBP numbers and he's only 31, not in his late 30's. Moustakas is actually younger than Dozier. He's only 30.
  18. Thanks for sharing. I live in AZ, so Spring Training is just a part of spring taken for granted. However, if you live in the midwest and you are a Brewer fan, I think it HAS to go on the bucket list! Now sure I have ever read an overly negative spring training review/experience.
  19. You will be fine staying in Tempe. Easy access to I-10 and the 60, which means easy access to the rest of the city. Be sure to hydrate before the Dodger game. Camelback Ranch is notorious for lack of shade. Very easy to get dehydrated or heat exhaustion. Enjoy!
