  1. 1. Neil Walker if the price is right. 2. If they dont get Walker they likely ride out Villar and Sogard. If Villar and Sogard are horrid they will make a move at mid-season like last year. 3. It is also possible that if Hiura is tearing the cover off the ball they bring him up in August of 2018. 2019 is more likely for Hiura but if his bat is as advanced as many scouts have told me, late 2018 is not ridiculous. I think the trade of Isan Diaz shows how much confidence the Brewers have in Hiura.
  2. Interesting idea. But 2017 was likely better than Lowrie going forward if you look at his previous years m. Oakland’s alsonuangnhim as a means to keep Barrett in the minors to start the year I've thought about targeting Manaea, he's not as established as the other guys being targeted but very well could break out. It's also hard to logically analyze what a trade with them would look like, Beane is very unconventional. Welcome, Brewcity. Excellent first post. I dont think Manaea is a good fit because he is a bit of a "tweener." What I mean by that is that in a trade for Santana the Brewers are likely going to be looking at either 1. sending Santana and prospects away for a TOR type or 2. trading Santana for high end prospects like Mejia. Manaea is far from a gas can, but he is not really a prospect at this point and really has not yet established himself as a TOR type. Santana represents the Brewers one big surplus piece that can be used to recoup part of the Yelich haul or get a TOR pitcher to sit next to Anderson and Nelson.
  3. Or other teams have shown interest since the moves last week, causing Stearns to reconsider. Cheap, young power-hitting corner outfielders don't come up on the market very often. Having guys like J.D. Martinez and Carlos Gonzales still out there probably doesn't help. Santana is kind of a "poor man's version" of them. Excellent post and right on. Stearns is going to get the best deal for Santana. Maybe that deal goes down tomorrow, maybe it goes down March 23rd after some spring injuries for other teams. Who knows.
  4. Come on folks. Santana is on the trade block. Rival GM's are not going to tell Rosenthal, "Santana is a stud who hit 30 bombs last year. He can play OF and would make an excellent DH. We plan to pay through the nose for him." Of course they are going to tell Rosenthal he is a bum. The Brewers need to unload an outfielder and rival GM's know it. They are going to play their hand close.
  5. Great 2015, horrible 2016, great 2017. How weird. At 2 years/$5 million I'm okay with the risk. Not even Neftali Feliz money
  6. Then the Brewers would likely need to trade Davies or Chacin.
  7. He gone fishin.
  8. This is the key. If we turn around and trade off Santana or Shaw(then sign Moustakas)we may recoup a bunch of what we just gave up.
  9. Liz is a just another warm body with a big fastball ... throw five or 10 of those against the wall and see if one sticks...
  10. If this means we've seen the last of Drake, I'm all for it.
  11. Brewers also signed LHP Mike Zagurski to a minor league deal. Reported yesterday 12/19. Dude hasnt appeared in the big leagues since 2013. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/minor-mlb-transactions-121717.html
  12. I think its pretty shrewd. Schrock is a good player that will promptly turn into the next Daniel Descalso or Brendan Ryan. I know nothing about the shortstop, Munoz.
  13. The Athletics will acquire outfielder Stephen Piscotty from the Cardinals for two minor leaguers, Jon Heyman of FanRag reports (Twitter link). Shortstop Yairo Munoz and second baseman Max Schrock going to the Cardinals. I have seen Schrock play and am of the opinion that he is the type of gritty player that will terrorize the Brewers for years. I guess this also takes Oakland out of the market for Domingo Santana.
  14. I live in Arizona and have been watching him for years. I agree 100% with reillymcshane. #5 guy at best. Pass.
  15. You're exactly right. Boras can ask whatever the hell he wants. All he has to do is convince one owner. Hopefully its not Mark A. m
  16. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/nl-central-notes-brewers-brinson-cardinals-martinez.html According to Jon Paul Morosi the Brewers are interested in Arrieta. This really really scares me.
  17. I have been to the Goodyear ballpark. The ballpark is waaaaay out on the west side of town. It sits right next to an ugly commercial airline boneyard. Moreover, the westside gets a bad rap in Phoenix. As a result, I am guessing the lack of attendance is from the lack of population density near the stadium as opposed to places like Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale and the bad reputation of the west side of town.
  18. The Phoenix City Counsel has approved the deal. https://brewers.mlblogs.com/maryvale-baseball-park-renovation-plan-approved-by-phoenix-city-council-1997a5589a1
  19. I'm very glad the Brewers are staying in Arizona. I am beyond confused as to why the Brewers would want to invest millions in Maryvale. This stinks of the Brewers just throwing up their hands in disgust and deciding to pay for the renovations themselves.
  20. 1. What is the one thing you want to see the Brewers do in the 2018 season? Make the playoffs. 2. What do you want the Brewers to do during the 2018 season with an eye towards the future (2019-2025)? a. Sell high on Korey Knebel for prospects to replenish the system. b. Insert Josh Hader into 8th inning or closers role. (I know I am in the minority on this). c. Not make a dumb move and sign an aging veteran like Arrieta. d. Not make a dumb move and trade away the farm for a #1 or #2 like the Marcum or Grienke deals.
  21. I fully expect the Brewers to head to Florida at this point. It seems they have exhausted about every option in Arizona.
  22. Excellent post, Lathund. Bottom line, versatility + high OBP = Value.
  23. Low risk. High reward. Works for me.
  24. The ballpark is in a crappy part of town. However, it is in central Phoenix where land is at a premium. I dont think luxury homes will be built in Maryvale anytime soon, however, condos and apartments do make a lot of sense for lower income folks.
