  1. Tonje fouled on the first 3 attempt that last possession from the left side of the arc. The officiating is a little bizarre.
  2. Correct. Now, whether the declining was due to discussions Gyorko had with the Brewers after '20, indicating his plans to go back to WV, or whether it was because Milwaukee just wanted to deploy the three headed monster of Vogelbach, Tellez and Hiura at 1B instead, we don't know. But Gyorko did have other MLB offers on the table afterwards, but he chose to be a present husband and father instead. Now as for Ollie in the here and now...It's nice to see him off to a great start in ST, even if it is more or less meaningless.
  3. Tossing the memorial bricks would have been such a tacky, disgusting, shameful embarrassment to the athletic program and university. I'm not kidding when I say a move like that might have caused me to rethink whether I pay any attention to UW anymore, other than possibly rooting against. And that's coming from a lifelong Badger fan who grew up on the East side.
  4. I got to questioning my own memory of Jerk Store's decision, so I went and found this nice article that confirms it. For anyone who may be interested in reading about what he's been up to.
  5. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Gyorko pretty much decided to call it quits and go be a family man. I agree with your points, I think what we have in house is potentially just as good or better than anything we could sign or trade for at this point in the year. Revisit in May/June if 3B is a problem at that time
  6. They're tearing down the Shell? Man, I haven't been downtown in Madison since I went to the Michigan game back in '17. Other than a couple basketball games around the holidays, but that was just parking a few blocks off John Nolen and walking to the Kohl Center. I wonder how much it'll have changed by the time I'm there again.
  7. I'm not going to worry about naming his pitch until he's officially become a member of the Frosty Boys.
  8. Certainly. I just can't fathom the return player in a Perkins trade being a big enough improvement over the in-house options to make up for the loss of Perkins. That's just me thinking of it in a 1 for 1 type scenario, which obviously it wouldn't necessarily need to be. I feel like Perkins brings so much to the table for us despite not at all outstanding offensive numbers. Tremendous defense obviously. Injury insurance, keeping the regular outfield fresh. Switch hitter with pretty even splits so you use him any time. That's a pretty important cog in the Brewers' elite outfield machine.
  9. I would hate that. I don't see any way the return on a Perkins trade would be near to the value he brings to the Brewers by being on the team.
  10. RIP Seitzer The Parakeet. Ex let it escape the house over the summer.
  11. Matthew, I've got to give credit where it's due. "He took to it like a barfly to Thin Lizzy" That right there is some great stuff. Interesting write up overall. I'm not so sure how I feel about DeJong, however I did find this one particular set of splits from last year to be interesting. Read into it what you will. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=dejonpa01&year=2024&t=b#power ETA: I'm talking about his splits on power vs finess pitchers. I have not had success importing tables from baseball reference, sadly.
  12. If Bregman suddenly craters in his 30s the way Rendon did then I'm all for the cubs signing him.
  13. Agreed. Personally, I'm hoping for a Best Shape Of My Life quote from him 😀
  14. Hard to say with Freddy. Nothing saying you have to trade every player on an expiring contract, especially if you're contending which I am optimistic that the Brewers will be in '25 and '26. I was so sad when Ax's comeback with the club got wrecked by injury. That was an awesome feel good story in the making which we were all denied.
  15. At this point I expect LAD to sign a bunch of expensive MLB players to high dollar minor league contracts to hedge against any injuries or underperformance. Their AAA affiliate would be capable of winning any division aside from the NL West.
  16. Meanwhile in Alaska we've been above freezing, the snow's all gone, sled dog races have had to be postponed, and travel, especially driving or walking, is far less than ideal due to there being glare ice with water on top of it everywhere. What a dumb winter.
  17. Case in point, there were no game related posts here for the national title game. Because who cares.
  18. Thanks to all who have posted links to stories, tributes, calls and everything in this thread. I haven't played any of them yet, but I'll come back to this thread and have a look, perhaps on opening day. Right now I'm just a little too sad.
  19. Reading your story makes me want to float all the way across North America and chuck a slice of Cheese Mountain pizza at her. But then again, remember that the wheel always comes around. She'll get hers one day if she doesn't grow up and learn to be considerate of others.
  20. That's what I was thinking too. The dropoff was very obvious as soon as the neck injury happened. He had I believe around an .830 ops prior to the neck thing. After the neck I think it took about 6 or so weeks before he got another HR, and basically wasn't able to do much else at the plate either.
  21. Fascinating, I had no idea Najeh Davenport had taken up baseball.
  22. Several years back I was feeling nostalgia and remembering different tidbits of programming from my childhood and youtubed the pinball machine counting video. Instantly I recognized that it had to be the Pointer Sisters. I'm thankful I grew up when I did, even if that means being over the hill now. We had some cool things.
  23. I can only assume the staff had watched that Seattle game the week before and just assumed the Bears were incapable of doing anything to help themselves win. Side story, Dad bowls with Gary Cannalte (former weather guy in Madison for those unfamiliar) and was going to rib him a little after that Seattle game. Gary's a chicago guy originally. I told him be careful with that one, watch the Bears come beat us in Lambeau next week.
  24. It’s funny when you think about it, losing to Minnesota is what cost them a National Championship
