    Most auction houses get around 20%. Give or take.

    Then unless Skenes absolutely flops out of nowhere, or injuries shorten his career, that card will be worth big-time $$.

    If the kid gets it graded, and it comes back a gem-mint 10 or 9.5, it will almost certainly hold it's value, or even gain value. If Skenes ends up a HOF pitcher that is.

    The popularity of card collecting always goes up and down. I remember it being huge from around 1993-2000, then wasn't popular for quite a while, then like you said, it's made a resurgence the past several years.

    Believe me. I completely understand the ups and downs of sports cards and memorabilia. Lol they need to be either flipped right away, or saved for 30+years. There's equal risk no matter which way collectors decide to do.

    It may drop some, but if he ends up getting better each year, wins multiple Cy Young awards, etc, it could easily be worth more than that when his career is over.

    If the Pirates were serious, they should've offered season tickets for 30 years, for the favorite team of whoever got the card. Or at least 15 years, since it's a different team.

    I would've definitely declined it. When Strassburg was drafted, I was selling a lot of cards and signed memorabilia on ebay back then, and if remember correctly, one of his 1/1 autographed rookie cards sold for well over $1M. Can't remember if it was a Topps, Bowman, etc, card, I just remember it sold for huge $$$. Plus, the season tickets would be a hassle, because the kid wasn't from the Pittsburgh area, so then he would've had the hassle of constantly selling them. I'd have much rather place it in a reputable sports memorabilia auction, and take the $$$$.

    I said more than once, that I never expect them to spend $200M-$250M on payroll, or anywhere near there. They can definitely afford to spend a little more than they do though So, I didn't move any goal post. The people debating with me, just don't take time to actually read what I comment and even remotely understand them. Nor do they care to, because in their minds, their opinions are the only ones that matter.

    They really didn't raise their payroll by much with any of those moves. I think we all can agree, that even though we're in a small market, the ownership group could easily afford to spend a little more on team salary, instead of hoping and praying for luck.

    I told you and others several comments ago already, that you people can believe what you want, and I'd do the same. Something about myself, is, I will always hold my ground in any discussion, especially when it's obvious that I'm being teamed up on. Lol intimidating me is pretty much impossible to do.

    Yes. As far as I'm concerned, what LA is doing should be nipped at the bud immediately. There should also be a hard salary cap and floor for every team. Unfortunately though, that will almost certainly never happen.

    I'm also optimistic about our prospects. Though, I'm also realistic about them, and know not all of them will continue to get better and make it to Milwaukee. So, before some get injured or fizzle out, they might as well try and capitalize on the trade values of some of them to try and get better now.

    I also cane to that conclusion years ago already. But then, like some here have said before, stop telling our fan base that they are trying to win a WS, or that's what their intentions are. They should be honest, and say the truth. Our chances rest on pure luck.

    And I completely understand that. I really do. I believe our best chance to win one, was a few years ago when we had an awesome rotation. They let it pass by though.
