  1. Grandal worked out perfectly for the brewers. Even during his power outage mid season he was good defensively and had a high OBP. He's #1 on my realistic wishlist. (obviously Cole, strasburg, and rendon are the top 3). I think worst case scenario for Grandal would be a similar 1/$20mm deal. Best case would probably be 4/$80mm. I think it settles in the middle. 3/$55-60mm. I hope it's with the brewers.
  2. If the Brewers think he can play an adequate first base, i'd be all for it.
  3. I know you're probably mostly being sarcastic, but it's different voters. As far as there being no thread on it... does anyone really care about this award? It's only been around since 1999 so it doesn't have the historical significance. Maybe by the time Yelich is done playing it will mean a little more and a notch in the belt for his HOF candidacy.
  4. Yates was incredible and if he had won he would have been deserving. I think the argument for Hader over Yates is the volume. Hader threw 15 more innings and 37 more strike outs. Hader threw 15 more innings that Yates with only 1 additional appearance.
  5. This really puts things in perspective.
  6. Yes. Packers fans are the NFL version of Cardinals fans. I wouldn't sweat it too much though.
  7. Ya I'm not any more concerned about the quote given the timing of it and I haven't read the full "study" so I don't know the full context. It's essentially what I'd expect. I would not trade Giannis if he doesn't sign an extension this off season though. I'd just want to play it out and see if they win in 2021. If the Bucks don't have Giannis they won't win a title so I don't really care how much longer the rebuild would be if they lose him for nothing. Keep in mind, the super max contract is like $100mm more than any other team can offer him. That's a ton of money to walk away from.
  8. I think Ross will probably be fine. Ultimately it's up to the front office to put together a strategic plan and for Ross to message that strategic plan to the players and implement it on the field. I have no idea how Maddon continued to use the same relievers basically to the point of ineffectiveness. It felt common for him to use relievers 3 days in a row or 4 out of 5 days. I feel like from the top down they need to re-evaluate the rest they're giving to the relief pitchers.
  9. I don't know if the Yankees will extend a QO. If they do, there's a strong case Didi should accept it. If he declines the QO, I wonder if it might be a Grandal situation where he sits around for a while and the Brewers swoop in with a lucrative 1 year offer late in the offseason. If he is not extended a QO he still make sense for the Brewers. He's the best available SS on the free agent market by a considerable margin. The Brewers should definitely be interested.
  10. Eric Nehm mentioned on Locked on Bucks a week or so ago that it's more of a pain tolerance thing and not at serious risk of re-injury/re-aggravation/worsening. I'll take that at face value since I'm not familiar with this type of injury. Not that any single regular season is that important, but Bledsoe is pretty important defensively vs Houston.
  11. I don't think anyone is suggesting they don't pursue pitching upgrades, but you can't rob peter to pay paul. Their offense, even with Grandal and Moustakas, was just middle of the pack in the NL. They need to make additions to both the offense and pitching whether that's through re-signing their own outgoing free agents or pursuing different players.
  12. Even having Hader on the list is sad lol. He only has 2.5 years of big league time. Even though he has literally been the best reliever in all of the MLB in that time span.
  13. CC was incredible for the Brewers. He was a huge part of dragging that team to the playoffs and staving off a collapse. Every start he made was must see. I remember listening to his "1-hitter" on the radio with my dad and the way they were describing it as a come backer I told him "I bet if we get another inning or two and he still has a no-hitter going they might change it to an error"... Well they never did that, but it was still an incredible start. He sacrificed his body for a team that probably didn't have legit WS odds and weren't going to pony up for him in free agency. He pitched complete games and pitched on short rest. His time as a Brewer was memorable and special. I desperately wanted the Brewers to re-sign him, but I knew they weren't going to. 2008 sorta feels like a turning point for the franchise. Once we got a taste of the playoff race I think fans began to expect more out of this team. Including 2008, they've been pretty competitive since. 7 winning seasons, 4 playoff appearances, 2 NLCS appearances. CC feels like part of that changing tide even though he was only here for a few months of it.
  14. Yes I agree with that. Regardless, the Brewers need to make gains offensively at SS. Definitely some cost/benefit analysis the Brewers will need to do to figure out the roster. Tons of decisions to make and a decision on one roster spot inevitably impacts another.
  15. You have that backward on Taylor. Taylor came up as an infielder and played there exclusively until 2017. He's a pretty good outfielder too though, as we unfortunately witnessed against the Brewers in the 2018 NLCS. If the Brewers pursued a trade for him I'd assume it would be as their primary shortstop, not a utility player. I was looking at how the Dodgers used him and his career ratings at positions. Plus rating for OF play and negative ratings for every infield position. When you have a player and team as versatile as the Dodgers I think need outweighs skills when looking at innings played at any given position. Seager/Macho are studs so it's understandable there haven't been a significant number of innings to play at SS over the last few years. As far as the IF defense. Not sure what metrics you looked at, but DRS has Taylor sorta hovering around as a neutral SS from year to year, +7 DRS in his career. FRAA has his as ~neutral at SS. True UZR has him below average over the course of his career, but not significantly. I know this is probably splitting hairs, but he's probably closer to a neutral defender than a negative defender at SS. I do think it's fair to question whether the Brewers can live with a neutral or worse defender at SS given they'll have at least one terrible defender on the IF already.
  17. Perez didn't "annoy" me as much as he did other posters here or on twitter, but I do think he got too many PAs over the last couple of seasons. Playing passable defense at 7 positions is useful. He will catch on somewhere with a minor league deal and an invite to big league camp.
  18. Ya this is basically where I'm at with the situation. Re-signing Grandal is the most important thing for the Brewers this off season. Chirinos and d'arnaud are really the only guys on that list who are primary catchers. The rest are time share types. If they go with a time share type they need a big upgrade at SS and need to keep Moustakas.
  19. lol yep. In hindsight that's probably Subero's agent reaching out to Morosi and asking for a free plug lol. Ultimately, I'm not sure how much this really matters as far as the Brewers in 2020 go.
  20. I'm not saying this to be a jerk, but there are very few players I want less than I want Ian Desmond.
  21. Ya I was thinking this while watching the game the other day. I'm not sure what Enrique Hernandez's full time capability at SS would be but he's another guy. Arb 3 this year. $5.5mm projection from MLBtr. He's played a fair amount of innings there though. Taylor would probably be a more reliable every day option.
  22. That's too bad (for the Brewers). I was already penciling him into the shuttle squad for 2020.
  23. It will be interesting to see what his salary projection is. In the 2 minutes I spent looking on sportac I couldn't find a good comp. I'm sure the Brewers were planning for this to be a possibility, but $600k is a pretty big difference from $5mm or whatever he will get in arbitration.
  24. This is why just getting into the playoffs matters. Weird stuff happens.
  25. it's the cards. they dink and dunk and take advantage of bad defense. [sarcasm]DEVIL MAGIC[/sarcasm]
