I think there is some nice potential to be a very similar pitcher to Quinn Priester if he develops well. Not many 20 year olds have 5 solid pitches with good command. The fact that he got a late season AA look tells me that the front office values him very highly. I wish he would have gotten and AFL look, I get that is an offense heavy league but even 10 innings would have been huge for him.

I don't dislike Tovar but the high strikeout and low walk players are not our orgs cup of tea, especially since he isn't a great baserunner either. As you mentioned, I doubt the Rockies give him up cheap since they don't have many other face of the franchise (in the mlb at least) players and Tovar could be that if he can get back on track.

Misc. Offseason Updates - AFL, Winter Leagues
jay87shot replied to Spencer Michaelis's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Bonet wasn't really a name on my radar, would it be expected he will be in Rookie ball or A ball next year. The stuff seems really solid if he is at 94-95. I had read that Thompson breaking stuff was going to need some improvement that it was relatively low spin, so to read/see that it is pretty solid is a big positive for me, Has there been any updates on the Brett Wichrowski injury from the last week of the season and if it will have any AFL ramifications? -
Alek Manoah DFA'd - put him in the lab?
jay87shot replied to Daubs's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I agree yes take a flier, guys like Steward Berroa, Zimmerman, and Fedde don't really have a future on our team. This would be a low risk signing, I do believe he would make a couple million next year to tender him a contract. That being said I doubt he makes it through waivers deep enough for us to get him through a claim. -
2026 International Free Agent Market
jay87shot replied to Jake McKibbin's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Rickey Moneys, Ricky Moneys, Rickey Moneys I can't decide if that is beyond sweet Latin Gangster name or a racecar fan (ala Ricky Bobby). Not only does the name buy him some sneaky favorite points, but that scouting report is as good as I have seen from a 16 year old we have signed. Very Nice. Frontado looks pretty high potential as well. With most of the signings from last year likely to repeat in the DSL again I fully expect better result from those squads next year. -
I wouldn't mind Buehler as an offseason minor league deal, I agree there could be some upside as a reliever. That way our people have some time to work on things with him. However at this point in the year (or even a couple weeks ago) it is kind of useless.

What is the likelihood we keep one of Daz or Oliva? Both are great AAAA players but guys like them seem to switch organizations every year. I would really like to keep 1 if possible for depth purposes but would pay them anything more than a standard vet minor league deal.

Offseason Big Name Potential Targets
jay87shot replied to jay87shot's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I put Robert on there in part because he is a big name, I agree he is a 4th OF/DH based off his last 2 years. I will point out the re-animation of Andrew Vaughn after he left Chicago. If he does get cut he could be a sneaky upside add just for that reason. What would you all think about trading for Byron Buxton? He is a 5 WAR player in what will be like 120 games and he has gotten poor defense grades in CF. If were to acquire him and platoon him and Yeli in LF/DH he would be the kind of bat that would take the offense to the next level. He is only making 15 per for the next 3 years. With the tear down the Twins had I would think he would wave a no trade. Collins could either be part of the trade or maybe move to a 4th OF/3B/2B platoon. -
I think I would go Grant Anderson over Chad Patrick, the only way I would see us go to Patrick is if we are down big. I think there are scenarios where Anderson would be used in competitive games. I would have Rhys on the roster, he would likely be the 2nd or 3rd pinch hitter just based on having playoff experience. Also the power on the bench is important, we are down like 3 or 4, I would rather have him pinch hit than Perkins. In a bases loaded, 2 outs down by 1 situation maybe that would go to Perk.

He was on the 40 man so he is eligible, any player must be on the 40 man roster by Sept. 1 to be eligible. So say a non-playoff team cuts an upcoming FA, say the Angels cut Taylor Ward to save like 400k. A team can pick him up the last 2 weeks but he won't be eligible to play in the playoffs. If we put a player like Will Childers on the 40 man today and he would not be eligible because he wasn't on 40 man Sept. 1, even though he had been in our organization the entire year.

Offseason Big Name Potential Targets
jay87shot replied to jay87shot's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I wouldn't think we would but if a guy like Belly or Bichette don't get a big multi year deal and take a 1 year deal with a player option, we could maybe (extemely unlikely) sign a bigger name if we make a run and Mark A. gets a bit wild. -
I wouldnt really put a specific number on it. I think it is one where you kind of look at innings per game and pitches per game probably add in safeguards for longer or more stressful outings. Since we gave him a bunch of shorter starts and the 10 day dl stint, I am not really worried about how many innings he throws the rest of the way. I would probably just keep him to like a 75 pitch limit. If that ends up being 130 or like 145 if we have a long playoff run and we get the good Misi, I am fine either way if he isn't putting in 100+ pitches.

Offseason Big Name Potential Targets
jay87shot replied to jay87shot's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I would be most interested in possibly adding Devin Williams back at a low-rate with some incentives. He won't get a big multi year deal with his year he had. However his numbers have been pretty good 2.89 FIP, 13 k/9, 3.8 bb/9. If we could do like 1/6 with incentives to 12-14 I think that would be smart of Devin and fit our needs well if it is in the 8th or 9th. I also like possibly adding a high end arm, specifically Edward Cabrera if the cost isn't to high. Maybe like Pratt/Quero, Patrick, and Wilken for Cabrera? It would be a risk but he is a guy that won't cost a lot and could be filthy for a couple years, maybe even open to a team friendly extension. -
From the offseason thread it seems like most of us are in agreement that it will be a generally slow offseason and not a lot of roster changes are needed. However most would be in favor of adding a high quality bat or arm for the right price. I thought we could make a list of potential big names that could make sense to trade (or sign) for. I am going to have an extended list here that likely DH/C- None Unless we get an overwhelming offer for Contreras or Yeli the will be no need for a big names. 1B- Very Unlikely With Vaughn under control for next year I doubt that a 1B acquisition makes sense, Cody Bellinger with his ability to play 1B and OF would be the only realistic big name that I could see being an option. Pete Alonso and Yandy Diaz are maybe big names but make less sense than Belly. IF- This one has some range. Trades = Jose Ramirez, CJ Abrams, Zach Neto, Ozzie Albies, Brandon Lowe, Marcus Semien, Nolan Arenado, Matt Chapman??? FA= Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, Luis Arraez, Eugenio Suarez. Some of those names aren't really upgrades like Albies, Arenado, or Arraez but are big names that could be dealt, a bunch of them will likely be way to expensive (Bichette/Bregman), or just really unlikely to be traded (Rameriz, Neto, Abrams). OF- Again a decent depth of names, maybe a better list of trade candidates Trades= Steven Kwan, Jarren Duran (other Boston OF), Luis Robert (if cut/FA), Daulton Varsho, Bryan Reynolds, Byron Buxton, FA=Belly, Harrison Bader, Trent Grisham SP- We have plenty of depth but I could see a sneaky trade for a controllable top of the rotation arm in the right circumstance. I doubt we would sign a big name but there are a couple discount names that could be of interest. Trades= Edward Cabrera, Sandy Alcantara, Joe Ryan, MacKenzie Gore, Drew Rasmussen, Pablo Lopez, Free Agents- Shane Bieber, Zach Gallen, Justin Verlander RP- I doubt we would trade a whole lot away for a reliever but if we have some money a free agent might make sense. Trade-Pete Fairbanks, Padres reliever, ??? FA- Devin Williams, Michael Kopech, Tyler Rogers, Kenley Jansen

Great point, I forgot he is a minor league free agent. If I was his agent I would look to switch organizations for sure, my guess is that in like half the organizations he would be in the top 10 of depth charts to be a starter next year. If we don't add any veterens I would put him around our 15th starter next year (counting Hall, Ashby, Thomas).

Wow, Wichrowski back close to 100 is impressive this late in the year. Hopefully he is ok and can still pitch in the AFL. Looks like Letson had a quality outing as well. I am kind of thinking Wichrowski's best path might be as a reliever. If he can throw 100 in shorter stints with is high end sweeper there is a high end pitcher. Especially with our organizational pitching depth, I would transition him there until maybe the end of next year however if it stills seems reasonable.

More and more I am agreeing with this. Traditionally I have like the trade players with 1 year of control and maximize the return. However with the farm system being pretty muchly a top 3-5 system across the league getting a couple young players isn't as valuable as usual. Add in that the staff would be very unexperienced without him and it should be easier to keep him unless someone just gives up way to much.

I don't mind Chourio in center if Collins and Sal are playing plus defense in the corners. Bader isn't a bad option but his offense career has been so inconsistent that is a risk. Chourio, Sal, Collins, Perk, Mitchell, and Yeli is really great OF and if someone like Black gets the 1B platoon that adds to the OF depth. I would think it is more likely we would trade someone like Perkins away especially as Lara gets closer and we add some new AAA OF depth if Cameron and Olivia leave. I wouldn't mind adding an OF but if we do it might mean trading Collins or an IF and then moving Collins to 2B/3B. I would prefer that if we go for a big trade acquistion it be at SS/3B, I think overall there can be a bigger improvement at those spots.

I kind of like the idea of Seigler being the backup catcher the 1st month and then bringing Quero up to save the year of arbitration. In the first month, I would guess Seigler would only start 1 maybe 2 games so I wouldn't think we would need to sign anyone. If we could find someone like Alfaro/Haase to catch in AAA and give good depth that would be great. With Contreras set to catch like 130 games every year spending resources on a catcher doesn't make a lot of sense. I also think having Quero being the backup in the bigs all year and getting like 100-150 pa isn't idea either. With Dinges and Matt Wood we do have some decent youth not to far away so trading Quero for a big bat is always an option since Contreras likely won't be going anywhere this year.

I know it isn't exciting but I am completely fine with adding no big names and just running it back. For me there are 2 big decisions, #1 being trading Freddy and #2 taking a big swing on a bat. The rest would be possibly resigning guys (Woody) and extensions If we trade Freddy I would love to go to an 8 man 4 day double piggyback rotation. I think we have the depth and the front office has the foresight to be revolutionary. I know I have proposed this like 3 or 4 time in the past. 1)Priester/Hall It was great early in the year, run it back. 2)Misi/Gasser Gasser is the most finasse lefty we have to slot in here with the Mis 3)Henderson/Ashby I think the power of Ashby after the high volume of changeup from Henderson would work well. 4)2 of Myers, Patrick, Pitcher for Freddy, CarRod, cheap FA vet (I be good with Q back, if not hurt), others I think that could really save the bullpen and would make it easy to go back and forth beween a 5/6 man rotation if there are injuries. By keeping everyone around 60-65 pitches they shouldn't over extend anyone and it is easy to call up a player from the minors here or there to start a game in the middle of a long stretch. With 5 guys in the pen you can rotate through guys easily especially if you only need to cover 2 innings a game on average. Also we should have really solid AAA pitching depth with Crow, Hardin, Hunt, Cornielle, Wichrowski, and more if need be (and on 40 man).

Any thought to having Joey O be defensive replacement SS?
jay87shot replied to BigWoo53's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I agree with the general sentiment that I am ok with Ortiz, I like the idea of having Mone as a late game ph in big spots. -
I think I am unofficially bumping Burke up my 1st base depth chart ahead of Adams, Boeve, and Wilken. It is going to be interesting to see how they organize the likes of Adams, Boeve, Burke, Wilken, Black, EMJ??, and others for next year (Fischer hot on there heels). All are likely deserving of AAA, my guess is Burke starts in AA just to avoid an issue. I really like Adams getting OF reps so that a 2027 Adams/Burke platoon with Adams capable of 3B and OF would be a perfect pairing.

I know in my heart that this is likely going to be true but am going to keep dreaming of that Gimenez style deal. In reality, a near .300 hitter with a borderline 20/30 year and glove glove defense, who is only getting better is going to get big bank in free agency. Maybe he would be a Yelich style extension candidate in like 2 years with Yeli close to done and Made possibly ready for a Chourio style deal.
