  1. I feel Bauer has done his time, especially since it seems that the woman did set him up to some degree. Heck the Astros cheated their way to a World Series and not 1 player was suspended 1 game. The GM and manager 1 (i believe). Mike Fiers probably got the worse end of the situation. Bauer got 324 games reduced to 194. I still don't like him much as a person but he does seem to be a likely clubhouse figure. From a baseball prospective he would be on his best behavior and cost pennies on the dollar maybe even a reasonable 2nd year option. I say sign him what is the worst that could happen,
  2. I was more interested in the Luke Raley for Caballero M's/Ray's trade. I have thought Luke Raley would have been a great 1B option for us. He has really good power and could play OF as well. He doesn't walk a ton but did get hit by a lot of pitches. Caballero is probably just a high end utility guy with good defense. I think the Giants did well to get Ray, obviously he has injury issues and a big deal for 3 years. However he should do well in SF if healthy. Haniger and Desclafani are really much.
  3. I like this move a lot as well, he is kind of the same as Haase. The both were bad last year but have been solid players. Nola has played a little 1st and even 2nd. I think between Haase and Nola I am super confident in our catcher group.
  4. Good point on the Pads not giving up both Bogearts and Merrill, maybe swap Boogy for Machado maybe Tatis. The Pads do have Kim who could play SS but he is free agent after this year. I am sure there are lots of alterations that could be made.
  5. 6'8 lefty with good strikeout numbers for our 20th pick last year seems like a good deal. He only throws about 92 so maybe a little bit like Angel Perdomo, who was decent with the Pirates last year.
  6. I feel like we could still contend, at least in the central. I would be ok trading Williams as well but it would have to be for an overpay or getting one top 30 high end prospect (with other peices). Sure trading Burnes, Adames, and Williams would take away like 10 WAR. But with a money ball approach we can make up for that. 2B, 3B, RF, CF, and DH were not good adding better pieces or young player improvement can make up for that especially if we add a free agent with the money saved. Think of a Burnes trade like this Burnes to Boston for Rafeala, Houck, mid prospect and then sign Justin Turner with the Burnes money. Adames, Peguero, and a prospect for Edward Cabrera use the money for Michael Lorenzen We would have a deeper lineup with 3 legit middle of the order bats a collection of good young pitching and still one of the best bullpen. With guys to trade from (Weimer/Mitchell, Quero, extra pitching) mid-season if we want to add. The problem is we probably would need to get rid of Bauers and Rea.
  7. I am not so worried about the Cubs, the Reds are going to be the tricky team. Even though I don't really like the Candelario, Martinez, Montas, Pagan deals much, it makes them much deeper and way better. They have 6 or more solid IF 4-5 solid OF 6-7 good starting pitching option and a deep bullpen. The Cubs will spend some money but unless they add a couple top tier players I am not to worried. The Cards will be much better and the Pirates have added some solid (not great) veterans that won't make then worse. Something will have to give, hopefully not us.
  8. What about a 3 team deal with the Padres and Giants. The Padres need to shed some payroll and fill some holes and the Giants want a star. We get= Jackson Merrill, Robby Snelling, Ryan Bergert, Casey Schmidt, Keaton Winn Padres get= Burnes, Weimer, Elvis Peguero Giants get= Bogaerts The Giants get a star only give up 2 prospects, the Padres save cash get an ace and 2 long term pieces. We get Winn and Schmidt to help right away, 2 really high end prospects in Merrill and Snelling and an under rated pitcher in Bergert.
  9. If we trade Burnes and/or Adames we likely would have some money to spend. Maybe we would use that money to trade for someone like Eloy Jimenez. Options DH=Martinez, Turner (IF), Soler, Brantley 1B=Hoskins, Belt, Santana, Cron, Cooper IF= Chapman, Merrifield, Anderson, Ursheala, Rosario P=Clevinger, Paxton, Ryu, Stroman, Velasquez, Manaea, Woodruff, Lorenzen, (Bauer/Urias if you want to get risky) If we trade both I would go after Justin Turner as my 1st option, he could help at 3B, play a bunch of 1st, and DH. If we get Turner I would probably go after Michael Lorenzen. Obviously the return in trades could change that alot. If we get younger prospects who are mlb ready maybe sign more veteran players like Santana, Merrifield, and Ryu.
  10. Especially if we trade Burnes and Adames, that would be 25+ million saved. Hopefully that would mean we could spend 15-20 million and a decent free agent.
  11. With Tyler Mahle getting 2/22 in a similar position (return likely midseason) Woody should do a little better. If he would be open to it I would try and sign him to a 2 year deal based on innings, say 100k per inning maybe a base of 2 million this year and 6 next. If he throws 200 innings between the 2 years that is 28 million (maybe more if playoffs or with incentives) We are protected if he doesn't pitch much, could trade him half way easy next offseason if things dictate so. I am sure a big payroll team could just offer 30 guaranteed but maybe Woody wants to stay.
  12. We have a habit of waiting until later Jan./Feb. for free agents and saving max amounts. However by then it is often the leftovers like Luke Voit from last year.
  13. Vs. RHP 1)LF Frelick 2)3B Black 3)LF Yelich 4)C Contreras 5)1B Santana (or other decent 1B FA not Bauers) 6)SS Adames 7)RF Mitchell 8) CF Chourio 9)2B Turang Vs. LHP 1) LF Yelich 2) 1B Santana 3)SS Adames 4)DH Contreras 5)CF Chourio 6) RF Frelick 7) 3B Black 8) C Haase 9) 2B Montesario I don't mind going 3 lefties vs RHP, Frelick, Black, Yeli all hit LHP well enough to do that.
  14. Good point, our young guys should be mich better. However addition by subtraction only works if the people who replace those ab's are better and currently the 2 additions are Bauer and Haase (I like Haase as the backup C) and that isn't much better.
  15. A big part of the +6 wins can be attributed to Contreras and the vast improvement of the bullpen from 2022 to 2023. Agree on the Canha, Santana part. So far we have lost Canha, Santana, Woody, Taylor, Houser, and Rowdy and signed some smaller bullpen pieces and 2 guys who hit .202/.279/.413 and .201/.247/.281 last year. I get we have time but we have essentially added Luke Voit and Winker-esque production to a team that badly needs some offense.
  16. I don't like trading Burnes and Williams together unless it would unlock Jackson Holiday, which it won't. Seperate we should get 3 really good pieces for each, say 1.5 top 100 prospects. We aren't getting 6 prospects with 3 or 4 top 100 guys for both Burnes and Williams for the O's.
  17. So far it seems we are taking the super cheap road. Ross, Clarke, Haase, Bauerd, Rea have been on very low value deals. Miley is mid-range, but it worries me we are playing the offseason like last year and hoping to find gems in the 1/2-5 million contracts. I would much rather just sign someone like Turner, Martinez, Belt to 1/15-20 than what we have done the past couple years.
  18. I am on the like Schmidt side. He isn't going to be an ace but I think he will be better than Houser. He has 4 solid pitches and his breaking pitchers are much better than Houser's in my opinion (strike out pitches). His pitches have great movement and I think he would benefit a lot getting out of New York. I believe he would be a solid #3 pitcher, I would value him as a borderline top 100 piece so he is likely the second piece or 1a/1b type piece. I think the Schimdt/Hampton top end of a package would be a solid start to give us a solid starter right away and a top of the rotation potential starter with a higher floor by next year. I doubt the Yanks would give up Dominguez and with his injury his trade value is probably lower than the Yanks would want it. I would be fine with Schmidt, Hampton, Lombard/Arias/Warren (smaller 4th piece). However I am liking the idea of getting a 3rd team to take Everson Pereria (blocked by Judge, Soto, Verdugo, Grisham with Jones and Dominguez ready next year).
  19. If we trade Burnes and Adames I would love to give Rhys a try. I personally wouldn't mind Black at 1st I think long term there is a better chance of Black at 1st over 3rd.
  20. Abel/Painter and Christopher Sanchez would be my ask.
  21. When do most publications update rankings? Before/after spring training I use mlb.com the most because it is the easiest to access but it seems like it hasn't been updated since before the end of the season.
  22. We still have Snell, Montgomery, Imagana maybe Giolito, Stroman, Clevinger, Kershaw possibly Bauer and then the really desperate teams will pay big.
  23. Adames for Busch would be fine by me. Busch should be a solid 1st baseman, however I would go after Miguel Vargas before Busch. I doubt the Dodgers would be in on Burnes after Glasnow, Ohtani, and Yoshi but who knows it wouldn't be to crazy.
  24. I would really hold out for Mayo buT a deal of Joey Ortiz, Connor Norby, Tyler Wells, and starting prospect would be ok for me. I would move Adames to 3rd and split 2B and SS between Turang, Ortiz, Norby. Black would be my 1st baseman and then Wilken would slot into 3rd next year. I still would prefer Mayo and 2 other piece but the O's have enough to make a couple packages solid.
  25. A package of Schaneul/Netopia, Dana and 3rd good piece would work but as others pointed out the Angels shouldn't do that. Although they did give up Quero and Bush for a half year of Giolito and Lopez (who they cut at the end of the year). A Burnes and Adames package by that standard could get Schaunel, Neto, and one of their young starters.
