  1. This piece is generating a ton of conversation on Brewers twitter so I thought I'd post it here. Cody breaks down three tiers of trades and unlike many trade proposals, they're quite fair for both sides. I think the Taylor/Farmer one makes a lot of sense as a low wattage move that improves both clubs. https://twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/minnesota-twins/the-twins-and-brewers-are-perfect-trade-partners-r15397
  2. First person to catch this! Jason’s sense of humor is easy to miss sometimes, he just casually slides nonsense into a sentence all the time.
  3. This cannot be screamed from the rooftops loudly enough. A salary cap/floor means little until comprehensive revenue sharing is in place. Otherwise the cap and floor only punishes the players while owners rake in even more cash and still play the role of cheapskate. We'll never see a difference-making salary floor (the owners proposed something like a $100m floor, which wouldn't even impact the Brewers as the smallest-market team in the sport) until revenue sharing brings more equality to the sport. If you're frustrated by the sport - and you have every right to be - focus on what the owners *aren't* doing to fix it by sharing money, not what Shohei Ohtani (or any other player) is making.
  4. Welcome to the site! It's tricky trading for a DH. It's hard to recoup overall value when defense is taken out of the equation entirely. But on a team like the Brewers (a team that badly needs offense), actually improving the team while being a net negative on paper is a possibility.
  5. Welcome to the site! I think the Cronenworth contract doesn't have much value to the Brewers; they have second base covered and Cronenworth's offense is pretty sketchy as a first baseman. But I don't think the Cronenworth contract is necessarily negative value. He had a pretty bad 2023 but I think it's reasonable to expect some rebound with him, I just don't know if that rebound will be enough for that contract to make sense at first base. But at a lower-offense position like second where his defensive attributes are more valuable, I think it's a decent risk for a team in need at that position.
  6. Welcome to the site! Garver is an interesting fit for this team. He fills the backup catcher role but is a good enough hitter to play first or DH.
  7. Yeah, he stood out in my mind as an option. Not an option I love, but an option.
  8. Is it, though? I think it has the potential to be a good rotation. Any rotation fronted by Burnes and Peralta will be at least pretty good. But Ashby is a big question mark and you just don't know what you're going to get from Miley. If you get 130 innings, that's probably a good rotation... but I think you're equally likely to get 25 innings from Wade as you are 130. Good pickup and I totally agree with it, but there's a ton of risk baked into any Wade Miley deal.
  9. I get it, I just think the return on a backup catcher is pretty small, especially if you're hoping Quero is ready for the role in June or July. At that point, a backup catcher *might* have 150 plate appearances. But I totally get the sentiment that it's frustrating to always be dealing with marginal pickups instead of something exciting.
  10. Welcome! I agree that the Brewers rotation isn't formidable as of this writing. But I just don't know what to expect of it. Ashby is a huge wildcard in all of this and we just don't know what to expect from him in 2024.
  11. I think they go the veteran defensive catcher for close to the league minimum route. It makes the most sense given Quero's situation.
  12. First, welcome to the site! And second, I entirely agree. Spending a bit of coin and trying to land Rhys Hoskins for two years - provided he's available for that length of contract - would be a great get for the Brewers.
  13. Good for him, getting a significant paycheck for two years.
  14. Adam McCalvy of MLB.com dropped a great rundown with General Manager Matt Arnold that covers a variety of topics. The Brewers, despite acquiring Jake Bauers earlier in the offseason, still (rightly) feel they need corner infield help. Carlos Santana was mentioned specifically as an option. Santana, one of last year's successful trade deadline acquisitions, posted a .773 OPS with the Brewers down the stretch and helped push their beleaguered offense back into the postseason. Arnold also mentioned that prospect Tyler Black has a legitimate shot to make the Opening Day roster, probably as a third baseman. Other interesting tidbits mentioned were updates on Aaron Ashby and the fact that the team is not considering Christian Yelich as an option at first base.

  16. Lots of talk in the community but no indication the Brewers or Yelich are considering it, last I heard.
  17. As a casual basketball fan, I find the in-season tournament bewildering. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, it's just a new concept that I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around. So I'm not against it for MLB. Personally, I'd be interested in trying something like this, particularly if they shortened the season back to 154 games to accommodate both this and the lengthier postseason. Slightly fewer games with more of them being high-stakes, intense games is probably a good idea for baseball.
  18. You'd think so but they legitimately had a good core at the end of the 2022 season and played all of 2023 with a good team with holes in it. Yet they still didn't do anything worth mentioning.
  19. For the last 13 months I've been waiting for the Orioles to do something and they still really haven't. So I've basically written them off until they prove I should pay attention.
  20. I don't find this to be a compelling rebuttal because I see huge red flags with Bellinger's 2023, too. I'm somewhat down on Black because his batted ball data worries me. But mostly, it's that batted ball data coupled with his defensive limitations. If he was an average or above-average fielder - which he might have a chance to become in time - killing worms and legging it out could be a pretty valuable player. But in his current incarnation, I have more than a little concern about his viability as an MLB everyday player.
  21. Off the top of my head, Memphis and OKC are smaller metro areas. There could be more I'm missing. Portland, maybe?
  22. A reunion makes a ton of sense for both parties.
