  1. Sure. But Turang is waving a wet noodle with the bat (and not showing many positive signs) and his defense isn't as good at SS. And Monasterio's not exactly great with the glove or the bat. Why I don't want to trade Adames in the first place, but if we did, I'd want another major league MIfer in return because no way am I comfortable with Turang and Monasterio as our MI.
  2. Well, if the Orioles aren't motivated for Burnes now....
  3. Arcia: 99 wRC+ in 2023 Lux: 99 career wRC+ (114 wRC+ in 2022) Grissom: 107 career wRC+ Turang: 60 wRC+ in 2023 Monasterio: 88 wRC+ in 2023 If Grissom "failed miserably" (he didn't in 2022 btw), then what do you call what Turang did this year?
  4. If you're referring to what I said, Arcia would replace Adames as a bridge to Turang and our other prospects. Not as the main piece of the trade, as we'd obviously expect one of the Braves' top prospects in addition. Unless you're comfortable with Turang and Monasterio as our middle infield....I, for one, am not. And Arcia has more than one year left. He's under control through 2025, with a club option for 2026.
  5. You're still ignoring the fact that the Brewers would almost certainly have to eat a significant chunk of Yelich's salary in any trade....That eats away at your "savings".
  6. I don't think there's any guarantee Turang is better than Arcia future wise. Or at least the version of Arcia from the past two seasons. Turang was pitiful this year, and didn't show many, if any, positive signs with the bat. Maybe you could get away with it if we had above average offensive production from 2B, but as of right now you'd be looking at Monasterio there... So, I'd definitely want a major league middle infielder in any Adames trade.
  7. I'd take one of their MLB ready arms for Burnes.
  8. I do have stats, actually... 2023: 2 (Scherzer and Verlander, who said he'd only waive his NTC for one team, the Astros) 2022: 0 2021: 1 (Scherzer again) 2020: 0 2019: 0 And this doesn't even include all of the deals that were nixed because of a NTC and or are never even pursued because of the presence of a NTC. Bottom line: it's rare. As for Yelich's $26 million, it's definitely less than 1/4 or 1/5 of the payroll. Furthermore, it's an opportunity cost-type situation. If the Brewers traded Yelich to rid themselves of his contract, they'd still have to find a way to replace his production, which this year was worth 4.1 fWAR, second best on the team. The cost for that sort of production would be at least $20 million if they tried to plug the resulting hole in FA, in which case they'd save very little to no money to upgrade the rest of the roster. We have young OF talent that we could go to instead, but that's still asking a lot for them to replicate Yelich's production and could ultimately negate any upgrades made to the rest of the roster due to the cost savings from a trade. Moreover, the Brewers would almost certainly have to eat a significant portion of Yelich's salary in any trade. As I've been saying, the incentive is relatively low for the Brewers to trade Yelich at this point and his possession of a full NTC renders it improbable to where there's little point in discussing it.
  9. 82 Cardinals, too. Every team that's eliminated the Brewers from the postseason has gone onto the WS at least.
  10. Brice Turang: 60 wRC+ Orlando Arcia: 99 wRC+ Obviously not as the main piece, but either him or Grissom would have to be involved imo.
  11. Believe it or not, Willy is a huge breakout/bounceback candidate for next year. He's trimmed his K rate each of the last three seasons while simultaneously improving his walk rate, which was at 11.1% this season. He also dramatically underperformed his xwOBA. It's not a stretch to think he could put up a 5 or 6 WAR season next year in a contract season. Why I'm inclined to hold him at least until the deadline.
  12. We better get Vaughn Grissom, Orlando Arcia, or Gavin Lux back in such a deal because no way am I comfortable going into next season with Brice Turang and Andruw Monasterio as our middle infield.
  13. Figured we could use a thread to discuss the rest of the postseason... I'm sure what's on most people's minds right now is that 7 spot the Dbacks have put on the Dodgers in the first two innings. Still early in the series, but it's incredible how we always get matched up with that one team that plays out of their mind once the playoffs begin. Also, the mighty Braves got shut out by Ranger Suarez and co. Suarez had comparable numbers this season to Colin Rea, who the Braves absolutely lit up. Takeaway: I hate baseball.
  14. Are they? Because it’s actually pretty rare a guy with a full NTC such as Yelich gets traded. And they would most certainly have to eat some of Yelich’s salary if they would plan on getting anything back in such a deal. Yelich’s contract isn’t preventing them from doing much of anything considering he’s effectively their only major long-term financial commitment. It’s not like we’re ever going to be major players in FA anyways. Just so little incentive for the Brewers to trade Yelich and unlikely to the point it’s not worth discussing.
  15. Yelich’s contract has nothing to do with AM Fam funding. It also has very little to do with their ability to extend Chourio because by the time Chourio’s contract would start getting expensive, Yelich will be off the books. Brewers aren’t going to eat salary just to get rid of Yelich’s contract when he’s producing the way he is. Especially when they have virtually nothing else the way of long-term financial commitments. And, of course, the full no trade clause….Never going to happen, despite how often it’s talked about on here.
  16. Except for the fact that Yelich is one of our few good hitters on a team short of good hitters. Why would we trade him when his contract isn’t going to prevent us from extending Chourio, for example. That’s what Wiguy is getting at. There’s zero incentive for the Brewers to trade him, in addition to the fact that Yelich holds a full no trade clause.
  17. Exactly. What this team needs more than anything is an infusion of power. HRs win you games in the postseason where it’s harder to string together hits, and it showed as the Dbacks hit 4 to our 1. I like Frelick and Canha as pure hitters, but they’re not going to get it done as the meat of your lineup in the postseason. Now, guys like Chourio and Wilken may change that, but I still think it’d be wise to explore Hoskins, Alonso, etc.
  18. Right and we wouldn't have to do that much building to begin with considering we control all of our other high leverage guys from this past year. Maybe we should be cheering for a Rangers' bullpen collapse and see if we can get one of their young bats in the offseason (Carter obviously being the one off the table). Same thing with the Orioles given Bautista is out for next season.
  19. I keep seeing Monasterio as a key part of people's rosters for next year. I don't see it. He was a minor league free agent for a reason. Likely a flash in the pan, who the closer you look, didn't flash all that much. Utility makes more sense, but as a starter? Also, Yelich is not getting traded. He has a huge contract and a full no trade clause. Neither is Woodruff with his injury uncertainty. And Adames' trade value probably just isn't there right now. I'm on the fence about trading Burnes as part of me wants to run it back and get the draft pick compensation, while another part is curious about what he would fetch on the open market. Devin is a guy I'd actually be interested in cashing in on for a middle of the order bat type. Brewers have proven more than anything at this point that they can field elite bullpens.
  20. Jackson Chourio The GOAT. Nothing else to say. I'll take him over Holliday any day. Jacob Misiorowski Best stuff in the minors alongside Skenes. Right-handed Randy Johnson? Please stay healthy. Jeferson Quero A defensive whiz, his bat keeps improving. Love the power surge. Tailed off a bit in the second half, but likely injury related. Tyler Black Professional hitter. Dude gets on base with the best of them. As always, where will he play? Robert Gasser Grew so much over the course of the season, reigning in his control issues. I think he's a back end top 100 guy and a future mid rotation starter. Brock Wilken Big time power. Great patience. Fast start. Will he sneak onto top 100 lists this winter? Carlos F Rodriguez I'm lower on Rodriguez than most, but can't ignore his production at AA. Another guy who should be able to slot into the back-end to middle of your rotation, perhaps as soon as next year. Luis Lara So advanced as a hitter for his age. Will the power come? If/when it does, he'll move up the rankings. Cooper Pratt Likened to Gunnar Henderson on draft day and he's done nothing to make those prognostications look silly so far. I could see him topping this list a year from now presuming the graduations of Chourio and Misiorowski. Mike Boeve He's a hitter. Though, I worry about a Keston Hiura outcome with him. Eric Brown Jr Gets on base and fields a premium position. But you'd like to see more from someone who had the reputation of an advanced hitter. Next season will be telling. Eric Bitonti Second youngest on this list after Chourio. Decent showing in Arizona. Could rise up the list depending on how he shows in full season ball. Josh Knoth Highest upside pitcher in the system after Misiorowski, armed with a big-time curveball. Reminds me of Ben Sheets. Only 18, so still a wide variance in potential outcomes and will take some time. Yophery Rodriguez This is about as high as I'll go for someone yet to play stateside. I'm not saying it will happen and he doesn't have quite as loud of tools, but he's the one in this system who could experience a Chourio-lite rise. I can't help but imagine him in LF next to Chourio and break a smile. Youngest player on my list. Logan Henderson How did he not get the call to high A is beyond me. Recovered from injury and dominated the Carolina League. But isn't that to be expected from a 21 year old? If he can replicate that performance next season across multiple levels, he'll move into my top 10. Luke Adams Great showing in low A as a 19 year old. You love to see that kind of patience and power from someone so young. His set-up terrifies me though not unlike Wiemer. This is one where our hitting development staff will have to do some developing. Daniel Guilarte Promising start, but finish left a little to be desired, and there's little power. Still only 19 and has a great eye at the plate. Filippo Di Turi Only 17. You can't help but be thrilled with what you saw from him in the DSL. Will the Brewers be aggressive with him like Chourio and potentially Yophery? Power questions, but the glove is there. Bradley Blalock Two plus pitches with an average third and solid control. That's starter material. Good results. Let the Brewers pitching development system eat. Dylan O'Rae Love everything about him. EXCEPT for one caveat and it's a major one: He has yet to hit a single HR. in the minors. Top 5 farm system in baseball undoubtedly. What Johnson and co. did this past draft was criminal. It's at a point where I'm comfortable holding onto Burnes, Woodruff, and Adames for one last run.
  21. Man Willy's eye has been so good for the past month or so. I'm not trading him this offseason.
  22. Best case scenario is Nico Hoerner imo. Which is possible, but he's going to have to focus on contact and getting on base. He has the eye for it.
  23. How many of these are we going to have this series. Come on baseball gods.
