    I think we can beat either team, but yeah on paper I think our only notable advantage over the Dbacks is pitching depth which in a 3 game series becomes a lot less important. I think we have an edge in defense and baserunning but they have such a monster advantage in hitting.

    The Padres also have a much stronger lineup and their bullpen is stacked as well. On paper I think they are #2 behind the Phillies in the NL. Dodgers have too many pitching injuries to be #2 in my opinion

    How many pitches do we think Lucchesi throws? Do Mets throw him until his arm falls off? The most pitches he's thrown this season is 94.

    I'd say on paper that the Padres are the 2nd best team in the NL behind the Phillies at this point. They have the hitting, they have the rotation, and they have a super stacked leverage bullpen.

    Maybe throwing Diaz up 5-0 yesterday was a mistake haha. Asking a guy to get a 5 out save the day after throwing 26 pitches is insane!

    I mean offensively they are pretty comparable. 98 wRC+ to 100 wRC+. xwOBA isn't related to wRC+. That's wOBA. xwOBA is about BB, HBP, K, batted ball quality. Goldschmidt had far better batted ball quality compared to Hoskins which is why his xwOBA is comfortably higher. Hard hit rate - 49.5% for Goldy to 42% for Hoskins Avg EV - 91.2 for Goldy to 88.7 for Hoskins Barrel rate - 11% for Goldy to 13% for Hoskins Yes Goldy's defense has fallen off but he's still miles better than Hoskins defensively. Goldy had 0 DRS and 0 OAA this year compared to Hoskins -3 DRS and -4 OAA (in about half as many innings)

    Goldschmidt had a 98 wRC+ to Hoskins 100. Goldschmidt was the better defensive 1B and baserunner. He had 1.0 fWAR to Hoskins 0.1 fWAR. His .333 xwOBA was 28 points higher than Hoskins .305 xwOBA. Now I'm not a fan of signing Goldschmidt but let's be real here, Hoskins was the worse 1B this season.

    The Brewers when playing well can beat every team in the MLB and when playing poorly can lose to any team in the MLB. We just need to play good baseball and things will take care of itself regardless of oppponent.

    I feel like ZiPS, Steamer, PECOTA all really struggle at properly valuing speed, defense, and bullpen pitching which are the three things that carried the Brewers this year and typically speaking defense and bullpen have always been a strong point for the Brewers since 2018. The defense gets the pitching to overperform their peripherals. The bullpen gets the team to overperform their run differential (most times). Speed can help an offense overperform their middling power and relatively average hitting. Like it's just an example but currently Turang's 3 year ZiPS projections have him averaging 21 SB over the next 3 seasons with 4 CS when Turang just stole 50 bases with 6 CS.

    Giants fired POBO Farhan Zaidi which I think makes plenty of sense, but they hired Buster Posey as their new POBO which feels crazy. I wonder if there's ever been a player only 3 years removed from playing being hired as POBO/GM of a franchise.

    When are they going to announce which series get which time slots? Surely they won’t wait until the doubleheader is finished tomorrow, right?

    I couldn't tell you that one because I don't think he'd make enough money in FA to justify opting out. Maybe if he just didn't enjoy his time in Milwaukee? Maybe if he has a really big postseason?

    Ideal scenario is Braves win game 1 and Mets win game 2. Mets need to go hard for 18 straight innings.

    Would you really rather play Houston than Baltimore? Houston just wins in the playoffs and have the much better team the last 4 months than Baltimore.
