Brewer Fanatic 2024 Offseason Top 20 Prospects: #11-15
SF70 replied to Spencer Michaelis's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Payne stands out for me. Potential 5-tool talents that perform like he did at his age can’t be outside of the team’s top 5, imo. Didn’t take long for him to squash the picked him for underslot reasons narrative. Having numerous young prospects for the league is an underrated aspect of this team’s system.- 21 replies

Brewer Fanatic 2024 Offseason Top 20 Prospects: #16-20
SF70 replied to Spencer Michaelis's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Pena, stands out for me. Should be a top 10 prospect at worst, and for me, inside the top 5. The tools scream top 5, even with the young age.- 18 replies

Team Payroll and Winning the World Series
SF70 commented on Stealofhome's blog entry in Breakdowns around the Bubbler
The Brewers have the FO, infrastructure and 9 years of Chourio to become a SM powerhouse through the rest of this decade and beyond. They have the young core now to get to the postseason every year and the impact teenage talent and extra draft-capital to eventually have the best farm system in baseball that surrounds Chourio with star talent later this decade. No team in baseball has more potential for success than this organization does moving-forward. -
Filling the teams only 2 weaknesses (3B & utility IF) internally isn’t going to happen. Dunn missed more than half the year with a bad back and if finally healthy, needs to prove himself at AAA first. Black is a poor IF defender and as such isn’t an option for this defense-centric team. Monasterio shouldn’t even be a utility option let alone get big-league reps at 3B. FA with Moncada & DeJong could fill both holes for a reasonable cost ($8M & $4M respectively is my estimate), or a trade acquisition like Suarez, Bohm or McMahon. The rest of the team is set, depth-wise. Maybe a trade of a Rea with a signing of a Lorenzen, but this team outside of 3B & utility IF doesn’t have any glaring holes or weaknesses.

A trade discussed on another board had Williams & Black to the Phillies for 2 years of Alec Bohm. Bohm was a 3+ WAR 3B last season with big improvements defensively. $8M arby would probably be tolerable. The 2 years buys time also for our prospects including Jesus Made. Phillies losing Estevez & Hoffman so Williams would likely appeal to them in another go for it season. Another option is Edmundo Sosa from the same team if they want to hold Bohm. Good fielder, 2+ WAR in limited action. Like Bohm, 2 more years of control.
-
Disagree that signing Haase wasn’t a hit, since he performed quite well in limited action and the team also has their backup catcher until Quero is ready. Outside of 3B and an upgrade at utility IF, I’m not seeing anything this team really needs upgrading. I think they let Hoby go and we might see a trade of Rea, although for his cost he gives the team an excellent depth starter/bulk innings pen arm. A Moncada and or DeJong signing, and or a trade for a 3B should be about it. Improvement should come as a whole with the continued development of their young players along with a pain free Yelich.

Nah, take the pick for our excellent domestic draft-department and move on. With Made-Pena-Pratt coming in 2-3 years and Boeve-Wilken possibly before then, the team just needs a 1-2 year stop-gap at 3B in order to stay the course with their mostly homegrown, lower payroll, financially-flexible roster moving forward. Ortiz should be an incredible defender at SS and with more experience, improve in the box and become a 4-5 WAR SS in his own right. Save the money and use it to extend the best and youngest of the special young talent (Quero?Made?Pratt?Pena?Payne?) currently stabled in our farm system.

Love the thought of adding draft-picks for this team’s domestic draft department, but the non-Williams relievers just don’t have much if any trade value. And the one that does, very likely isn’t desired by a comp A team. Detroit’s strength is their bullpen and besides they aren’t likely in go for it mode anyhow. Rea to Colorado makes no sense since Colorado also isn’t in go for it mode with 1 year of Rea. Of the 9 proposals, 2 are possibles, although Tampa is like MKE, likely trusting their draft -skill, and not wanting to part with the pick. So maybe the Civale/Bauer to KC?, KC traded away their comp to the Nats last trade-deadline for Hunter Harvey who promptly got injured so they might be a little gun shy of repeating.

Doesn’t bother me in the least if true. Go young, and stay young. Stay away from FA signings. The team has the infrastructure to furnish the team with young, controllable, impactful talent, and for as far as my eyes can see.

2024 Major Publication Prospect Ranks
SF70 replied to jay87shot's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Nice to listen to non-Brewers fans that understand what those of us that follow the system as deeply as we do, know — “wave of freak shows coming” — “draft and IFA machine going”. Love it. -
Not happening. Too good of a FO. Too good of a now rebuilt infrastructure. Too good of a young big-league core. Too good of prospect-procurement systems. Too many impactful teenage prospects stabled in our farm for when we will need them. I can keep going, but will stop there because I think you get the point I am making.

The SP depth on this team is the best I can ever remember. That will pay dividends over a long championship season. My preferred rotation: 1. Woodruff— I predict solid from the get go, improving to first game playoff starter. 2. Myers— From his arsenal to his elite tunneling to his command — could be a #2 next season. 3. Peralta— As good a 3rd starter as there is in the game. 4. Hall— Health and an offseason in the pitching lab. Needs innings. Team needs LHSP. 5. Ashby— Stuff is all the way back so this is where he belongs. 4 of the nastiest pitches in the game. Hoping he can add a 4-seam option he can throw up in the zone. 6. Civale— As good of a 5th/6th starter as there is 7. Rea— Great depth to have pitching bulk out of the pen. 8. CRod 9. Patrick 10. Henderson 11. minor-league signing They could also sign Miley on an incentive-laden deal for sometime in the second-half of the season. I think they go 6-man all season to protect their starters, especially Woodruff-Ashby-Hall-Myers. That is my optimistic take on this teams ‘25 rotation. There is no doubt in my mind they have the depth of quality starter arms to have a better rotation than what they had in ‘24, and with maybe the best bullpen they’ve had since late-season of ‘18, they will have the pitching to win a title.
-
Not expecting the team to be able to sign Ross. He won’t rotation with this team and I’m guessing he wants to start.
-
Take the best deal you can get because it’s time to move on. Megill can close, and they have so much fire power coming back it’s almost comical. Megill-Payamps (trade?)-Koenig-Mears-Uribe-Milner (trade?)-Peguero (trade?)-Bukauskas-Yoho-Wilson (trade?)-Rea (trade?)-Ashby (rotation?)-Hall (rotation?)-Z-Misiorowski (late season). Besides we need the money savings for next year‘s payroll to put together the best team possible under our budget conditions.
-
Stagnating to you, because you choose to not look under the hood organizationally or for some reason ignore their youth and years of control. Murphy knew the team had it won and one (1) player choked the season away. 1 player.
-
We won 93 games with the second-youngest team in baseball. This young core is only going to get better as they develop and mature. ‘Down on the farm’ ranked our ‘23 draft-class the best in all of baseball. BA said we have one of the best IFA departments in the game with a best in baseball ‘24 IFA class. Those 2 classes have added the best 17-20 years old talent in the game to our system. Next year we have five (5) top picks and $16M+ in pool money for the draft that will add more impact talent to our system. This FO is getting results on the field and also just as important, behind the scenes gathering talent for the system.
-
It’s deeper than what we’ve had the last 3 years. If Ashby-Hall can take the next step it’s as good a rotation as we’ve had since ‘21.

No progress? We now have a large, young, dynamic and controlled core which we didn’t have 5 years ago. We also have a mature infrastructure which we didn’t have 5 years ago. Top all that off with the best teenage positional talent of any farm system and I’d say that’s a ton of progress.
-
Isn’t close? It is if one expects Woodruff to start-off the season a solid mid-rotation arm that becomes a #1 by the postseason. And Myers continues his #2/3 starter performance. And Ashby’s command improves ever so slightly. Which makes Civale & Hall a pretty darn good 5th/6th starter combo.

Rea to the pen as a bulk and depth starter arm. 5th & 6th starters should be Hall-Ashby until proven otherwise.

The ‘25 team will be our best team since 1982. Trade Williams for prospects. Starters— $26M Woodruff (5M)—Peralta (8)—Myers (750K) Civale (8)—Ashby (3)—Hall (750K) Bullpen— $15M Megill (2)—Uribe (750K)—Payamps (3)—Koenig (750K)—Mears (1)—Hudson (750K) Yoho (750K)—Rea (5.5) Positional—$67M Contreras (7)—Haase (2) Hoskins (18)—Martinez (750K)—Turang (750K)—Ortiz (750K)—Moncada (8)—DeJong (4) Yelich (24)—Chourio (4)—Mitchell (750K)—Frelick (750K)—Perkins (750K Total payroll—$108M The young core will come into their own lead by a healthy Yelich with the best pitching staff since 2021.
