  1. This has to be Yelich’s last year playing the OF for this team doesn’t it? With Mitchell already in the big-Leagues, Frelick & Wiemer knocking at the BL door, with a potential superstar rocketing his way to the majors, not to mention TT, all of which are far superior defenders, shouldn’t the team be thinking of moving Yelich to 1B next year? I suppose they could trade an OF next offseason or at the trade-deadline but would that really be the smart move? Personally I like the thought of having 3 GG-type OF’s manning our OF for the next half-decade or longer, but maybe that’s just me.
  2. Arizona is trusting their medical team and scouts & evaluators in doing this deal and in doing so if they’re right just got a heck of a value.. Up to 9 years of performance paid with zero declining-performance years included.
  3. I don’t think it’s wishcasting at all to point out his defense and baserunning will very likely get him to 4 WARwith his hit-tool. Arraez is all hit-tool, without speed and defense, which is why he’s stuck as a 2ish WAR player. Maybe Frelick never adjusts his launch angle to take advantage of his strength, but to see his skills as a starter for a couple of years then a bench bat is far too negative imo.
  4. Defense & baserunning to go along with that BTB pushes him well past Arraez. Frelick is also quite strong and great hitters with strength many times learn to lift and hit HR’s.
  5. A 4+ WAR player as is with a few 5-7 WAR seasons with a slight increase in his launch angle.
  6. Hopefully the team won’t need him until post S2. Millions are still millions.
  7. Frelick needs to be this team’s next positional extention and soon. They should be able to get a deal done for less than the Dbacks inked Carroll for. Frelick is special. Waiting until he faces big-league pitching in big-league games potentially prices him out of this teams price-range.
  8. Fastest player in baseball. Elite BTB. Above average power. Plays a premium position. Current #1/#2 prospect in baseball. 8-9 years of Carroll, even if it takes him 1-2 years to establish, that’s 7-8 years of PRIME-AGED performance seasons. The DBacks know what they have in Carroll. They know his injury history first-hand. A $23M+ Carroll still in his prime in 2031 will be a massive bargain contract.
  9. Frelick with his 3rd straight hit, a one out bullet off the pitchers glove and into CF scoring another run for Italy. They are now up 7-1 in the eighth.
  10. Frelick with a 1 out 2B in the 6th.
  11. Frelick with a laser line drive base hit to RF scoring a run in the bottom of the 4th. Italy up 6-1 after a Nicky Lopez triple.
  12. Ok, I reluctantly have to agree with you. Lots of I’ll-informed fans out there, and idiotic media.
  13. Then we might as well hold Burnes for the WAR he provides and the draft-pick because 1 year of control traded next offseason isn’t returning what we would need to give-up his WAR in a season we will still be contending. Same with Woody/Adames. Deadline trades or hold.
  14. Burnes has made the deadline trade easier, PR-wise, because of how he bashed the team over arbitration. I’m of the belief a Burnes trade next offseason won’t net near the return of a deadline trade due to teams desire to trade their best prospects not being there because they can add FA talent instead. I’m also of the belief this team will contend for a championship in ‘23 & ‘24, provided they have 2 of the big 3 retained for the picks and can get a Burnes return that can improve the team in 2024 and beyond, also allowing for the team to improve the rotation next offseason thru FA. Not having Burnes post-deadline including playoffs will hurt, but a hopeful healthy Ashby can mitigate somewhat along with a Gasser that should also be ready to rotation later in the year. A trade-deadline return for Burnes should be franchise altering and add enough high-end controllable talent to make it worth the temporary bad PR from some fans.
  15. That’s where I was at as well, but Burnes’s calculated “tantrum” vs the team after his arby hearing has me now wanting him gone, and the beautiful thing about a deadline trade is the team can pick the best overpay and that should be enough to sustain the playoff contention window and keep the team from having to reload/rebuild. This team can still contend for a title without Burnes in ‘23 & ‘24. They have enough SP, post-deadline, headlined by Woodruff/Peralta with Miley/Lauer/Houser/Wilson/Gasser as well. Holding on to Woodruff & Adames in ‘24, while adding 2 core players from the Burnes trade, and having the financial-flexibility to add a nice FA starter on a 2-5 year deal makes this team stronger in ‘24 than with Burnes. That’s my opinion and I’m going to stick with it.
  16. Yeah, if I’m running things, and we have a healthy rotation this July, I’m trading Burnes for the best return I can get, which should be more than what Cincinnati got for Castillo. i’m then holding Woody & Adames for the 4-5 WAR seasons they each get me and the draft-picks, so I can still try to go win a title in ‘23 &’24. A stud BLR starter & a stud BLR positional from Burnes added to the dynamic positional prospect talent at the ready, should extend the teams contention ability indefinitely.
  17. The Nashville bullpen is going to be loaded with talented & intriguing arms. Miller, Casteneda, Small, Yeager, Uribe, Peguero, Cousins, Myers, Robinson and maybe even Seminaris and Middendorf at some point during the year.
  18. I get that, and it is frustrating, but like with Hiura, I don’t see the team keeping Frelick in Nashville until S2, just to gain the extra arby year.
  19. It’ll be interesting sending them back to Nashville if they rake while rostered. Plus it forces the team to roster ahead of when they might want to. Just easier going with Naquin/Anderson in RF.
  20. Saving Mark money? That’s not the reason the team will keep the trio down for the minimum 15 days. Its all about the extra year isn’t it? And it absolutely should be. We all know this SM team has to max out their talent to have a chance to compete long-term, and to pretend that shouldn’t be the priority, imo, is sorta ridiculous. If the team is going to extend any of the trio they need that extra year as leverage as well. That should be the priority, not potentially losing that year just to have them rostered OD.
  21. Yes, especially during the offseason when teams just aren’t desperate enough to trade their best prospects, choosing the FA route instead. This is why I believe the team will hold Burnes and only trade him at the deadline if they are out of contention. Burnes & the draft-pick will likely be more valuable than trading Burnes during the offseason.
  22. I agree with you that Arnold is the biggest reason for the Brewers minor league success. His talent evaluation skills & player development background were very likely what made him wanted by Stearns in the first place. The team’s recent success internationally, imo, is in large part thanks to him and his work with Mike Groopman. If CC decides to take time away from the game for family reasons, I’m confident Arnold/Attanasio will replace him with a manager that can keep this winning train moving along. I’ve never been more confident in the trajectory of this organization as I am right now.
  23. He sure looked good pitching against us while with Pittsburgh. I sure do love this team’s PDS. Fascinating to see what happens with him this spring.
  24. What the heck has happened to Zamora’s defense? 2 errors today & a boatload before his injury last season. Count me more than a little concerned.
  25. Seidler has decided to lose money on a yearly basis indefinitely (it appears). If it’s $50-$100M/year, in 5 years it only knocks a half billion off his net worth, max (From 3B to 2.5B). Some or maybe even most of that he can get-back with the team valuation likely to skyrocket during this time. Title or not, he’s still a hero in SD. Pretty good deal for him actually.
