  1. The progress this team has made in the last decade internationally is remarkable. I’d stack their last 4 classses up with the best in baseball. The Arnold/Groopman pairing back in ‘18/‘19 has really taken this department to another level. The amateur talent procurement systems they have in place, including their scouting of the independent leagues has given Brewers fans more than just hope this team can compete far into the future.
  2. No way this team trades any of the big 3 if they are smack dab in the middle of a pennant race again after the heat they took with the Hader trade last trade-deadline. Looking at this team — I think it’s highly likely they will be in contention all year long, so they will buy and not sell. Next offseason — unless they get what they want by trade, which is difficult to do because teams hoard their best prospects choosing instead to buy talent in the FA realm, they likely hold and arby them. The team has the financial flexibility to arby all 3 next offseason and still have the ability to be “opportunistic” in “building around them” one last time. Of course things will change if the team disappoints prior to this years trade-deadline.
  3. The team I believe has recently invested more resources Internationally re-furbishing their Dominican academy and they are one of only 5 teams that field 2 full teams in the DSL & ACL.
  4. The team has many options thanks to the starter depth acquired by the FO this offseason. Stand pat and send a couple of starters to the pen to open the season, Trade Houser or Lauer and still send a starter to the pen. Having Wilson, Junk as possible 8th & 9th starters with Small still an option with a hopefully fixed release-point, seems excessive, and then Gasser sometime possibly post S2. This doesn’t include Tyson Miller or Costanza. I’m guessing a trade happens sometime before OD, still lots of teams need starters.
  5. Seattle just wants another option for their bullpen this year and is willing to give-up a nice prospect to get it.
  6. Bauer knows more about pitching than most pitching coaches. He has his.body trained to throw 120+ pitches every 4 days. His stamina will help protect the bullpen of his team in a huge way. This makes him extremely valuable and a true ace.
  7. I will admit the veteran addition, preferably LH that I want, would help the early season pen until the inevitable breakouts occur, but if they don’t bring in that arm, this team has the numbers to make for a strong and deep bullpen. The team has way more options this year over last year, like quadruple the options. Topa has had a full offseason to get stronger past his flexor surgery, Same with Cousins having the offseason to build-up arm strength. Milner has proven the last 2 years to be an effective LH in HL situations. Bush has the power arsenal and late inning experience. Strez, impressed the team enough to be in the mix for late innings work. And that doesn’t even include the stuff-arms they brought in this offseason or the prospects like Uribe, Middendorf, Robinson, Yeager, Seminaris or Casteneda if they turn him into a reliever to take advantage of his splitter. Guerra, Peguero, Varland all throw hard enough to dominate if they can command. Then we have the starter arms from the rotation depth — At least 1, maybe 2 of Houser, Ashby should bullpen early on, with Wilson possibly as well. Then there’s Small (if he’s back to strike-throwing) and Gasser post S2. Im sure I’m leaving out more pen options due to doing this post off memory, but that’s more arms gathered than we’ve ever had before imo, and off those numbers will come a deep and strong bullpen.
  8. They have enough arms gathered to have a tremendous bullpen even without adding another veteran LH. They’ll have multiple starter arms, and a couple of boatloads of stuff-arms from which a few will breakout joining Strez, Bush and Williams to form a dynamic bullpen. That’s not even including Gasser and Small, who both could impact the second-half bullpen. Proven and reliable can just happen when you have the numbers of arm talent that this team has. Think Devin Williams back in 2020.
  9. Adding Miley not only allows for a 5 rest day strategy but improves the bullpen by adding another starter arm that can pitch multiple-inning stints that help keep the bullpen fresh and rested. Going-back to the 5 rest day strategy will give the starters the strength to go an extra inning occasionally, also helping to keep the bullpen more rested. This pitching staff is as deep as I’ve ever seen from this team. If they can add a veteran LH backender I’ll stack the staff up with any in the game.
  10. Luke Barker had TJ surgery, was released by the Brewers and is a minor-league FA.
  11. Spot-on analysis. The Cardinals positional depth is extraordinary with 4-5 rookies not only making their debuts last year but most more than holding their own. Adding a potential MOTO bat to this years mix in top 5 prospect Jordan Walker only strengthens their top 5-7 offense. As you already pointed-out their rotation is filled with mid to backend starters with little depth past their 5-6 starters. They aren’t getting help from their farm system either with most of their top pitching prospects #4 & #5 type starters and most (Liberatore the exception, but he’s vastly overrated anyhow, 5+ ERA at Memphis) multiple years away from touching a rotation. Which also is a potential problem past this season when they lose most of their rotation after this year.
  12. If this team makes the playoffs this season, how can they trade Burnes, Woodruff, Adames and Lauer, all in the same offseason, without being destroyed by the fan base?
  13. That’s part of it. The other part is the blowback this team would get by trading them when they very likely will contend all year at worst and be a playoff team this season at best. Teams hoard their best prospects during the offseason because they can improve with FA’s. That changes at the trade-deadline when there aren’t FA’s to buy, and teams desperation-levels rise. With that said I just don’t see the team trading the big 3. I see them making a run both this season and next, with them leading the way.
  14. If this team contends all year long, I think they hold the big 3 for the draft-picks. My reasoning is teams don’t trade their best prospects unless they are desperate to improve, and that means the trade-deadline and not the offseason. so how can the team trade any of them if they are potentially playoff bound, which I think they will be? Of course if they’re out of the race that changes things, but I don’t see that happening.
  15. Ashby can be quite the unicorn starter once he improves his command of his FB. His K potential combined with his GB rate should make him incredibly unique, and allow him to pitch deep into games by pitching to more contact. The breakout is just a matter of time.
  16. Can’t emulate to Atlanta’s extent because of the difference in revenue between teams, but I think we will start to see extentions from this team over the next 2-3 years to some of our positionals now that the team has quite the talented core being developed. This will be the key that this team needs to compete long-term. Discern the keepers as early as possible and extend only until their early 30’s. All of Atlanta’s extension’s but 1 (Strider) have been to positionals. This will be the tact that MKE will take. Chourio-Quero will be the two I see them going after the hardest. Wiemer, with his small signing bonus, could be one the team zero’s in on to get a big discount if they think he’s a keeper. Frelick would need zeroed in on early since he’s already a millionaire prospect.
  17. The only serviceable position Hiura can play is 1B and with his not being able to hit LHP that doesn’t work either. DH will likely go to Winker/Contreras/Yelich, so I don’t see how the team can roster him at all. Trade forthcoming.
  18. So would I. When your livelihood is threatened, I’m guessing it changes a person’s outlook and when given a second-chance, and also being his contract year, I’m guessing he’d be a fantastic teammate. Baseball-wise, he’d help this team get to the WS. It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t pitched in 18 months and counting. He’s the smartest pitcher, maybe ever. The guys built-up his arm to throw every 4 days or 5 days and 120-130 pitches every outing. This would be a fantastic signing.
  19. Agree on the pen. The second-half of the season pen could have starter arms like Gasser and Small pitching out of it, or even Houser if they sign another starter this offseason. I can’t ever remember the team having the numbers of legit bullpen options that they have right now. Tremendous job by the FO in this accumulation of arms. I think the team will continue to start Ashby since he is a starter with 3 plus pitches of his 4/5 overall. Command, especially of his 2-seam, is all that’s keeping him from consistent dominance and being a TOR starter for this team. As they say starters development isn’t linear, and can take multiples of years. He needs innings.
  20. Don’t forget Elvis Peguero. Big-time stuff. If the winter-leagues are any indication of what’s ahead — 16.2 innings 12H with only 1 walk and 23K’s, we could see quite the breakout from him if that command holds. incredibly disappointing final outing from Uribe in his final WL outing. Couldn’t get near the plate before he was removed from the game. Hopefully just a blip with losing his release point, but not a good way to end the year for him. Hopefully another year post flexor surgery helps Topa get back closer to his pre-injury velo, which is down 2-3 mph from his peak 2020. But even if the team can’t get much this season from Topa or Uribe, they have enough arms stabled to put together a dynamic bullpen imo.
  21. I want both of Burnes/Woodruff getting the extra day as well just like they got back in ‘21. Should keep them stronger all year and allow for deeper outings.
  22. I think we already have a great bullpen without the veteran set-up man like a Chafin, which I just don’t see the team spending the money to sign. Williams-Bush-Milner-Strezelecki should be set. With an enormous number of legit potentials from among Cousins-Topa-Peguero-Guerra-Varland-Miller-Uribe-Robinson-Payamps-Middendorf. Then we have potential multi-inning arms in Small-Junk and hopefully Houser (if we acquire another starter) and later in the year, Gasser.
  23. I’d like a Miley signing that sends Houser to the bullpen. Hoping the team goes back to a full-time 6-man for injury protection and better performance.
  24. Mike Hazen is building a monstrous organization. Incredibly fast and talented OF, underrated IF, and now, adding one of the most talented catcher prospects in the game. Gallen & Kelly leading a rotation that should get a talent infusion from a deep and talented farm system — this team is close to challenging for a WC spot this year and much more over the next few years.
  25. No, it would more likely mean the apparent confidence this team has in their rookies was justified all-along.
