  1. Agree with the author that Bryse Wilson is a virtual lock to make the bullpen unless he really stinks it up in ST. I think the Brewers feel his stuff will play-up some pitching shorter stints out of the pen as well.
  2. Ok, thanks. Hopefully the injection and rehab does the trick, and he’s back mid-May like he hopes to be.
  3. No link. Going off memory, could be misremembering what happened with Lauer.
  4. Eerily similar injury to Lauer back in ‘20 ST. Lauer ended up needing surgery on his “impinged” shoulder. Hopefully the injection and rehab works, but I’m not all that hopeful to be honest.
  5. Agree with your bullpen assessment. The team, between the 40 man and Nashville has 15+ legit options for 2-3 bullpen spots. Might take a couple of months for the breakouts to occur, but eventually they will and we’ll have a strong 8 man. Incredible job by Arnold & co.
  6. Yeah, it’s more the reading of SR’s on Varland after his conversion to reliever. 98 with a put away breaking ball has my attention. With Wilson, it’s more my confidence in the teams PDS and what they can do with him in the lab. I also remember his starts vs us and how he pretty much shut us down.
  7. Agree with your roster except I’m substituting in Bryse Wilson & Gus Varland for Cousins & Payamps. Varlands upside and Wilson’s starter depth potential.
  8. Frelick is my #1 Brewers prospect and in my opinion, a future batting champion and perennial 5+ WAR player that will also hit 20 HR’s annually. But unless he’s otherworldly this spring he’s likely starting the year with Nashville, his words. The team has enough OF options to keep him in Nashville past April and maybe even S2. Frelick is the prospect I’m zeroing in on to get extended before others, with his incredibly high floor mitigating risk. It’s going to likely need to be an early extension offer with his $4M signing bonus a potential hindrance.
  9. Yeah, down attendance and Diamond going bankrupt. Most of the Diamond customers also with lower payrolls.
  10. I’m skeptical the revenue disparity will ever get fixed in a meaningful way with needing 23 owners votes. Too many LM owners, that will fight to keep their larger slice of the revenue pie. It was a miracle of salesmanship Bud Selig & Jerry Reinsdorf convinced the LM owners 30 years ago to relent to the modest RS back then, and unfortunately I don’t see that type of galvanizing owner in baseball today.
  11. Burnes is a smart guy. He absolutely knew what he was in for attending his own “dressing down” hearing. He had 40 hours to think about what he was going to say to the media. His words today are totally self-serving and extremely hurtful to the team. I’d imagine a lot of time spent on the phone (or in person) with his agent and union reps. This is all too calculating for me.
  12. Not having Hader’s 4.24 ERA & Roger’s 5.48 ERA should help with the performance of this year‘s bullpen over last year’s pen.
  13. David Gasper, lead writer for Reviewing The Brew, does the Brewers ranking, and has them at #9, which is closer to where they should be ranked imo.
  14. I’m hoping the team can add a couple of big-armed starter prospects into the system from this draft. We have a decent number of 3-5 starter potentials in the farm right now, but outside of Misiorowski, no realistic frontline starters.
  15. They protected the teams future while at the same time improving the ‘23 team. They also have financial flexibility moving forward for opportunistic acquisitions both by trade (adding salary) or FA.
  16. Couldn’t disagree more. I’m giving them an A offseason. Arnold & co. have improved the offense (Contreras & Winker), starting pitching depth (Miley, Wilson, Junk, Miller) pen arms (too numerous to list, but a boatload and a half at least), infield depth (Anderson, Miller, Toro), and OF depth (Perkins, Bolt, Harrison). They’ve improved the farm’s pitching depth as well (Yeager, Seminaris, Hernandez, Junk). They accomplished all this without blocking their talented AAA prospects from playing-time if they perform.
  17. Every scout & evaluator I’ve read says plus defense from Moore, so count me as non-concerned with his errors down below. Am impressed with his slugging though. Any farm with Robert Moore at #27 is incredibly deep.
  18. I would agree with that assessment. But there’s something to be said with mixing and matching as well, especially from a team that has had a lot of success doing that in the past. They have more “stuff” arms than they’ve had since the Knebel-Jeffress-Hader days. I like the odds of this team finding multiple closing options after this season moving forward.
  19. Things change. Uribe, Guerra, Peguero, Varland, all have the stuff to close if they breakout
  20. Calling Matt Arnold a “rising star” was cool to hear. Love our FO.
  21. Getting something is better than nothing if he ends up injured. Throwing that pitch makes his arm a ticking time-bomb and maybe some GM will take a chance.
  22. Hoping for some serious breakouts from among our large stable of bullpen possibilities this season. Hopefully he gets thru the championship season healthy and the team has other closer options moving forward so we can trade Devin next offseason.
  23. Well it looks like development and not the “baseball” from the Turang ascension skeptics. The teams focus on improving their HDS the last 2-3 years is incredibly exciting and the missing link to a full-fledged dynamic infrastructure. I’ve never been more confident in this team winning a WS or two over the next decade.
  24. Yeah, I think Sal was just in over his head as GM of the Brewers and it also was awful timing for him with Selig leaving his Brewers to save the game for small-market teams, including his. No real budget left for him by Wendy (Bud, even tho completely out of decision-making and ownership of the team to eliminate conflict of interest, likely didn’t want the team to win too much, while he and Reinsdorf convinced the large market owners to share revenue). But his hires could have been better, and as you pointed out, he could have sold-off, gone young, but wow, probably wouldn’t have helped much with the teams poor drafting and non-existent international department (Nilsson notwithstanding). Good guy, and pretty cool he decided to stay in Wisconsin to live-out his life.
