  1. It seems like the Sunday/holiday crowds tend to be a little more laid back and maybe a bit less knowledgeable(the wave thing like hawing mentioned) than crowds otherwise. Great game last night. I was really fortunate to go with my parents and got to sit in the 2nd row of 119, basically right behind home plate. Really neat experience.
  2. Maybe you came up with your own answer right there. I can understand you loved Sheets and were frustrated when people criticized him, but any baseball fan base would have taken a player to similar task for being injured often like he was. Just because a player is good doesn't make them immune from criticism of their shortcomings.
  3. Great win last night, and Hell's Bells was fully rocking. The Brewers are pretty fortunate to have him on their team right now.
  4. I agree. But the difference was that Sheets was pitching in a game with potentially the first playoff appearance for the team in 26 years on the line, where as Jenkins' last game was a pretty meaningless season ender. Different expectations.
  5. Is the Astros' ownership really that bad? They seem to have a pretty healthy payroll.
  6. Doesn't seem like a big surprise. They're 14.5 games back in their division right now.
  7. I think a lot of fans were just frustrated because you couldn't write better irony...Sheets pitched great for the majority of the year, but when the team really could have used him, he was unavailable, due to being hurt. Maybe not his fault, but a lot of fans probably just felt him being hurt again was fairly predictable.
  8. I'm doubting the Brewers would be able to sign Hardy long term. I wish I was wrong, but I think if it were going to happen, it would have by now. Hardy is not stupid, he knows he's one of the premier shortstops in the NL, and probably has a huge payday coming. I summed up a lot of my feelings on the Peavy situation in my latest blog entry, link is in my sig. (Sorry to be a blog %$%+@, but I don't want to keep rehashing the same stuff here).
  9. No, I don't think that would have been cool, personally. But I get what danzig is talking about. Sometimes it's nice to see players showing some emotion and "flair" when they play, and I think that aspect of Zambrano is fine. What's not fine is when it becomes uncontrolled anger, which is basically what he showed there. At least that's my opinion.
  10. I guess I think a lot of people are under selling Peavy big time around here. The guy is considered a legit #1 pitcher in MLB for a reason. It's not just all hype. Yes, he's been helped a bit by pitching at Petco and such, but the fact is he's a good pitcher who stays healthy and almost always gives his team a chance to win. The fact he hasn't been hurt doesn't mean that he's eventually going to b,e either. Funny we never saw that logic applied in reverse when Sheets was with the team... Anyway, I still am not sure if I'm in favor of getting him or not. I understand the contract is a big concern, but no one here really knows Melvin's ultimate budget flexibility. I think I'd rather see the Brewers target someone like Cliff Lee (shorter contract, still quite good). But a Peavy/Gallardo combo at the top of the rotation is probably superior to any other combination the Brewers could possibly hope to field anytime soon. Parra is nowhere close to the quality of pitcher that Peavy is, and he won't be any time soon.
  11. *insert joke about a certain someone here* Seriously, I have no idea off hand.
  12. TheCrew may be right. And after reading the comments about Peavy in that Trevor Hoffman interview, I am not so sure he would waive his no trade clause to come here.
  13. It's good to see his bat seems to have come back around. The idea of him batting lead-off intrigues me.
  14. Maybe his next stop will be the Yankees. They can continue their pattern of overpaying for big boppers as they enter their post-prime years.
  15. I can't see any scenario right now where either Hoffman or Cameron get traded. Maybe if the team has no realistic chance of contending after the All-Star break, but even them I'm not sure they would get rid of them. They'd almost be better off trading someone like Hardy for a big haul, and stick with those two and hopefully get compensation picks after this season.
  16. Hmmm...yeah, maybe. But it looks downright mountain man-ish compared to the splotch Manny is currently sporting.
  17. Yeah, I agree. We might want to see what we actually have in this guy for a season or so before making comparisons like that.
  18. I'll admit I don't get the reference.
  19. Maybe he could grow a full beard like Dave Bush.
  20. I don't see why we'd have any realistic interest in Brad Penny. We already have him on the team, except his name is Jeff Suppan.
  21. Yeah, that is very true. At least he'll set himself up for another comparable payday if he continues to hit well (and assuming the economy is better in a couple years). Washington just seems to be one of those franchises with no long term game plan. I asked it before, but I really wonder if their ownership and MLB in general is going to regret the move to Washington in a few years time.
  22. *shrug* How else do you make it fair then? Considering how pitchers generally get paid an overly commensurate amount for only pitching every fifth day anyway, I don't think it's that unfair.
  23. I think he'll eventually be a good MLB hitter based on everything I've read about him, and the little I've seen of him on TV. However, I think it's asking a lot for him to be a major offensive contributor right away. We've been spoiled as fans seeing a lot of young guys come up and mash right away, and Gamel isn't necessarily going to be in that category.
  24. My guess is we'll still be seeing the ramifications of steroids and other PEDs for a long time to come. I would assume you'll gradually see stricter measures put in place by MLB. Eventually anyone who risks taking a banned substance will risk an automatic banning from MLB for life. It won't happen overnight, though.
  25. Just had to bump this, just glancing over the standings today. 13-33 record so far this season. Well on pace to lose over 100 games this season. How much is Adam Dunn kicking himself for signing with these clowns right now?
