  1. What's the deal with the pink shirts anyway?
  2. It all comes down to ownership. I know you can't directly compare the NFL to MLB, but the Ravens seem to do just fine in Baltimore, "small market" or not.
  3. I can't believe no one has mentioned that the Orioles are cursed with a terrible owner as well.
  4. I heard someone on the radio today describe Suppan perfectly (may have been Tom Haudricourt, I'm not totally sure), in my opinion. He basically said Suppan has gotten to the point where he has no room for error with his pitches. If he makes a mistake, it doesn't get fouled off or popped up. It gets crushed, more often than not. That's kind of scary to think about, but he's sure seemed that way yesterday, and for much of last year.
  5. MLB Trade Rumors has a pretty good write up regarding former Brewers pitcher Ben McDonald and his agent at the time, Scott Boras: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/04/boras-blast-from-the-past-ben-mcdonald.html#comments Key point towards the end: "Brewers GM Sal Bando offered McDonald a big extension in '97 - three years, $18MM plus a $6MM option (according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel). Boras turned down the extension, requesting a guaranteed fourth year. The decision turned out to be a blunder, as McDonald never pitched again due to injuries."
  6. Talk about an interesting pitching matchup! Too bad I'll probably be asleep by the fifth inning.
  7. I like the new box. The bar across the top was starting to look kind of dated, in my opinion. I'm sure they can tweak the box to show pitch speed eventually, or just have it pop up somewhere else.
  8. Maybe just do the Bob Brenly strategy and let him keep getting shelled, and save the bullpen for the games we have a chance to win.
  9. What did Bill Hall do? I must have missed what you were referring to.
  10. Say you'll take them, then run them over when you're supposed to pick them up. That way everyone wins.
  11. My take on the game today: - Offense "yay", pitching "boo."
  12. I still can't believe how bad the Brewers got shafted in their first week of the season scheduling. A screwy season opener series with potential bad weather, and then wasting a Cubs series for Opening Day at Miller Park. Ugh.
  13. Yeah, I don't get the Peavy or nothing attitude that seems to be out there. You never know what else could be available come late June/early July. I guess if I had to make a guess, Peavy ends up a Cub somehow, even though I don't see how they have the pieces to get a deal done.
  14. Maybe they're covering the Bucks in HD? I'm not sure otherwise.
  15. I think even 25 is a stretch. Honestly, what track record is there to base such predictions on?
  16. It makes me smile to see an article on the Giants' home page call the Brewers "a vexing nemesis." "San Francisco will christen its season Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers, the reigning National League Wild Card winners. Milwaukee went 6-0 against the Giants last year, outscoring them, 49-18. The Brewers won three of those games by seven runs or more, and only once did the Giants fall by fewer than three runs." Edit: Also, can someone clarify the start time? Brewers.com still says 3:05, but wasn't this game bumped back as well? Eric on 102.9 The Hog just said "3:30 start time." Haudricourt's blog yesterday said 3:25 CDT. Which is it?
  17. Yeah, I have even stopped watching RAW basically...which I have been watching pretty much every week since the early '90s (going back to the WWF Primetime Wrestling days). It just doesn't hold my interest anymore. I'll probably watch tonight for the post 'Mania fallout, but if they don't hook me right away, I'll probably be taking a break from watching WWE for quite a while.
  18. Yeah, but did he really say anything that's not true? I don't think he's even the first Cub to call for a new stadium in recent years.
  19. Ah...GLCW. I forgot they were still around. I remember going to one of their shows in '98, and they had Mick Foley doing basically his last appearance as Cactus Jack. He won their title that day, too. Tracy, sounds like you and I got into Fire Pro around the same time. I also had 6 Man Scramble on the Saturn. Awesome game for the time.
  20. I kind of hope they don't waste 'Taker's streak on Shawn Michaels. I'd rather see a young guy like Cody Rhodes or Ted Dibiase Jr. beat him, and make it mean something. Also, I didn't think I should start a new topic about this, but by chance have any of you played the Fire Pro Wrestling games from Japan? Some guys from another message board are trying to start a petition to ask Spike (the company behind it) to consider making a new game. This was just started by a US soldier currently serving in Iraq, so I figured the least I could do was put up a link. At worst, it can't hurt to try, I suppose: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Support_NEW_Fire_Pro_Wrestling/signatures-1.html
  21. Every time I've had a chance to take COBRA, the monthly payments have been something ridiculous...like $600 a month or more. Thankfully I've always had better options.
  22. Save him for mop up work right now. That's about all you can realistically trust him with at this point.
  23. Technically shouldn't this thread be titled "Season Opener Rituals?" Sorry, just nit picking there. Anyway, I have to work that day, but will hopefully be home by 3:30 or so, so I should get to watch most of the game on TV. No real big plans, other than maybe enjoying a couple cold ones.
  24. Hope this will re-affirms why he should never be mentioned in a trade rumor again.
