  1. I'm in. Thanks to unemployed bliss I'll be watching from home while eating my government cheese. I like Tennessee. I met Bruce Pearl several years ago while intening at UWM. He showed up at an official function straight off the practice court wearing comically short shorts. He is a crazy man who most likely saves his nail clippings, but he knows how to motivate a basketball team. My aunt is a Knoxville resident and long time Lady Vols fan and season ticket holder. When Pearl showed up at a women's game painted orange with a T on his chest, she put money down for Men's tickets as well...
  2. I'd talk to a lawyer first who can give you the lay of the land, so to speak. It sounds like the IRS needs to have things explained to them, and they aren't always gracious about that.
  3. My brother has the same problem. You have to watch what you eat because spicy things can cause some pain on their way out. These things can heal up. Because of the way the report is written, I will hear a whispered (anus) everytime I hear Kaz's name. "Now batting, Kaz Matsui" (anus).
  4. Those penalties and interest can add up fast. Depending on how they have you classified, you could appeal it but they will still charge you interest and penalties during the appeal. The IRS is not nice. Find a lawyer in your area who handles tax matters. Not all of them do accounting, so they may not be swamped doing returns. If all you are looking for is "where do I go from here" advice, it should only take an hour or 2 of billable time. Do not wait. My father in law ignored the IRS for a spell; he will probably be paying them off the rest of his life because of it.
  5. I would only call Prince fat if my name wasn't listed in the phone book. The MLB "official" stats are mostly a joke. If Prince sticks with the vegitarian thing he should be alright as long as he is eating the right foods. Carbs aren't going to kill him as long as he eats the right kind (brown rice, whole wheat pasta, etc). The soy would be worse if that is all he does, those things are high on the sodium content. If he keeps up the exercise and gets some good nutritional advice, he should be groovy.
  6. I'll be the statisitcal outlier here and say Rottino. Like finishing a logic puzzle, I vote Rottino based on why it won't be Munson or Rivera, and the intangibles his Yostiness brings to the table. 1. Either Saturday or Sunday Powell was saying how Management expected Rivera to go to AAA last year after getting a pretty good look at the majors in 06 and mash the ball a little bit more. I think if the powers that be are letting things like that float to the press, they aren't crazy about him. That and I think his defensive abilities could best be described as "meh". We have already had a light hitting catcher with shaky D; his name rhymed with "Crab Bowler". 2. I don't think Doug lets Ned take a lefthanded backup catcher. Doug knows Ned's proclivity to go lefty-righty platoon in certain places, and having a lefty catcher may be too tempting. Not wanting to irritate Kendall, the 'Stache puts the kybosh on that idea. 3. Rottino has that gritty battler thing that Yost loves. Plus he knows he can start him at 1B and move him to C if need be. Rottino has earned a shot; the local thing is just icing on the cake. Besides, Yost knows he can always have Simmons go in http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Does the kid not speak much English because he is young or was he just shy? I know Yo was born in Mexico, but he went to HS in Ft. Worth. Not being a downer, just curious. Great story to tell and memory to be had. You should get him a Gallardo jersey for his birthday.
  8. I finally have gotten around to reading "Moneyball" (thank you Tosa Library) and am about 250 pages in. As a BF reader, I already knew the stat revolution, and am onboard for the most part. Well, at least as far as the offensive stats are concerned. The defensive stats seem a tad too subjective to me, especially in a revolution that is based around looking at measureable scientific datum. That said, I will will agree with one thing in the mock article: The book does read like it was written by an either self loving Beane or a worshipful intern.
  9. I hate this site because it is cold in March. I'll admit that I tend not to contribute so much to the wonderful core baseball knowledge on this site. For instance, I would say something snarky like "Gygax Runs Out of Hit Points" or somesuch in the middle of a serious convesation. Or say something like my lead in. Or start a sentence with a preposition much to the ire of English majors everywhere. I love the Brewers with a passion usually reserved for insane football hooligans, but I also love civil discourse about baseball. Watching a well played game is like watching a symphony work together, and I love it when that symphony plays "Roll Out the Barrell" for an encore. I know the posters here feel the same way. Thanks.
  10. Plus, under most fantasy systems, you can use Brau as a 3B and an outfielder once he plays a qualifying number of games in the outfield. Yahoo has him listed there as well. Quite the asset to have.
  11. I like Mark because he sits in the stands a lot, talks to the fans in the concourse, and really seems to love the team. And for you soccer folks, does he look a lot like England Manager Fabio Capello or what?
  12. In addition to the Miller Park route, route 10 goes from downtown to near the park, but it is a bit of a walk down to the valley. However, that walk takes you past all the bars on Bluemound. You could leave early, stop for a beer at Long Wongs, take their bus the last little clip or walk the last half mile or so. You could then take the shuttle after the game back to your hotel. Milwaukee is a fairly easy town to get around in, especially on Sunday. You shouldn't have a problem at all.
  13. "The only meat consumed by Prince is the Cubs starting rotation."
  14. Well, I don't think that is going to happen. We may see reduced consumption over a period of time and the industry will have to adapt. As for the animals already raised for slaughter dying off, well, they were going to do that anyway. Aracko, as I said on page one, I would be willing to bet it is either "Omnivore's Dilemma" or "Fast Food Nation". The movie version of Fast Food did a pretty good job of making a non-fiction book into a feature film. When I do consume meat, I tend to consume the way backupcathers does; as local as possible from sources I know. Sure, I have my indulgences (mmmmm...Oakland Gyros) but this ins't a zero sum game, in my opinion. My hippie greenishness also gets involved. I think it (usually) takes less resources to bring a pound of beans to market than it does a pound of beef. I'm not just talking shipping, but the energy that goes into each. Cows need more than sun and water, which is probably why they taste so good http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Good for Prince. I bet he read either "Omnivore's Dilemma" by Pollan or "Fast Food Nation" by I forget who. He needs to pick up a copy of "American Wholefoods Cuisine" by Goldbeck. It teaches how to eat vegetables in compliments so you get your complete proteins without using animal proteins. Extra protein is just turned into fat, so cutting out whe he doesn't need will be great. The wife and I are semi-veg; we like the occasional meat because, well, it tastes good. The rest of the time, veggies are cheaper. I'd tell Prince to also lay off the over-processed stuff but, with the MLB lifestyle, that would be almost impossible. My proof, I've lost 40 lbs since last January by simply shifting what I ate from less processed foods and less meats to more grains veggies and fruits. That and the occasional walk and it has melted away. Go hippie Prince!
  16. The funny thing about Brian's picture is that shortly after that was taken, Russ was intimate with all 3 of them. He has that kind of power. I'm okay with this. A lot of things have to happen for the Muscle to be in our starting line up, much less on the 25 man. As long as we are loading up AAA with interestin backups, doesn't Cirillo need a job?
  17. Even when we were horrible, Opening Day was pretty packed. It was the one game the casual fan actually wanted to go to. Don't blame them in the least. As we continue to do well, prices will go up. I have buddies who are die hard Cleveland fans and, when they started to do well, seats and parking went up. Call it the bandwagon effect. The disposable income crowd, which tends to follow the "hot" item of the moment, come out of the woodowrk for winning teams. Go look at the NHL Wings; 8 years ago you had to sell a kidney to get in, now they are lucky to pack the place. And if you think we are the Yankees or Red Sox, well, go take a look at the "face" value of their tickets. That and neither stadium has much in the way of parking. We are one of the few major league ballparks to have an NFL-like parking field (Chavez Ravine being the other one that comes to mind).
  18. I was at the next game. Not as exciting finish wise, but the 3 minute Jenkins ovation was nice. We did also come back from a 3 run hole. Best home game I had been at since we won #80 in 2005. Great article. I will also duel, pistols or swords, with any person who feels compelled to boo Jenkins this year.
  19. After delivering the check, Braun looked too long into the dugout so Yost has benched him for the season opener. Kudos on him for doing it, and kudos again for not seeking the press on his own. Mazel tov.
  20. I've come up with and forgotten a unified field theory. I've run out, flipped steaks and made it back.
  21. Then his cell phone rang and went to go open the front door. Honestly, best of luck to Corey, he will be an asset wherever he goes. Concussions are weird things though, so I just hope he is careful.
  22. You heard it here first, nothing gets done until the 2nd week of March. I know, so bold. Things just aren't moving, and won't until teams figure a few things out. A few above average prospects to fill out the system would not be a horrible thing. I am just glad that we are finally in that position. Seriously, 5 years ago did you think we would be in this position? We have arms other people want and that is a good thing. I'll thank you not to make the Martha joke.
  23. My brother lives in Siberia. He is married to a Siberian woman. They sound nothing like that. Moreover, I bet none of those guys has killed a sheep in his living room. That said, I do enjoy the Trans Siberian folks.
  24. "I would also like to let you know we will be eliminating the 10 game packs, the 20 game season ticket (you better get a 40), and raIsing prices 15%" Am I being pessimistic? He is a businessman looking to maximixe profit streams...
  25. Well, at least we didn't blow a 7 game lead in 17 days. We strung it out nice at long, and made us suffer. Kind of like every year of being a Brewers fan. But booting this to the CUBS? Boooooooo!
