  1. the gist I get from reading this thread is that they called up Escobar to platoon? They said Escobar would play 5 of 7 days a week, or there abouts.
  2. Getting Davis for the remainder of the year really is a no-lose situation for the Brewers. You offer him arby and he either leaves for a comp pick, accepts, giving us a majorly needed 3-ish starter for next year. Not to mention that he is quite likely to be interested in re-signing with the Brewers regardless.
  3. His biggest weakness IMO is not moving guys at the right time to maximize value. To me, that's the key of being a GM of a small market team. While I tend to agree, it's also true that when you get a younger player that you have under your control for a while at a reasonably cheap cost, you're going to be reluctant to deal them because they're like gold to a small market team.
  4. Not a big fan of Culvers butterburgers, because they grill the life out of them; if you've ever had one without the lettuce and tomato, they're just too dry. Agreed completely. I've long felt Culvers was vastly overrated for that very reason.
  5. repeatedly picked the wrong managers and pitching coaches for the team I can agree on manager (though the other names available out there this offseason weren't inspiring), he's only hired two pitching coaches and one of them was very good.
  6. Seriously though, the reality is that pretty much everyone but Yo and Hoffman are struggling Agreed. It's one thing to watch the likes of Suppan struggle as you'd expect, but nearly everyone on the staff has been below expectations this year, and to at least some degree that has to fall on the coaching.
  7. Listening to Homer try to figure out the waiver trade rules on the radio on the way home tonight was painful. Tom H sounded like he wanted to strangle Homer through the phone.
  8. ERA+ is already ballpark adjusted, so I don't really get what you're driving at here. Exactly the point- his ballpark adjusted ERA+ suggests that he's pitched very well when you counter for GABP, which isn't reflected in his actual ERA and such.
  9. I wonder if the Reds would be willing to take Bill Hall for one of them They might have an interest in Hall just to keep from having him face them anymore. If they're serious about getting rid of Harang, I'd think a straight up swap of Hall for Harang makes sense for both teams. I'd even give them a C-level prospect if they wanted one to make it happen.
  10. what would prevent the Brewers from calling up any of the guys on the 'list' to the bigs? Or is that not allowed? I'm honestly not sure- I would think, though, that it's probably the league they're in at the time of the trade? .maybe I just am in the minority of not knowing that. No, certainly not something a majority of people should know, but something Buster Olney certainly should. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Link to the transaction: http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4390120
  12. He's good if he can keep his .200 BABIP and 87% LOB%. His 134 ERA+ also suggests you can adjust his numbers for that band box he's been in as well.
  13. "The Reds were right to get rid of Weathers - he's old, not good, and makes more money than he should." I strongly disagree with the "not good" part- he's been solid this year, as usual. He says he 'doubts it' so I don't know how you can knock ESPN. Because it's not possible- a PTBNL can not be a player in the same League as the person he was traded for. Cincy to Milwaukee = NL to NL, so it's not allowed. Olney should know that.
  14. They got to go on one of those 8-2 type runs real soon to really be in it. Agreed- they have to get hot to make it possible. Getting to within 2-3 games before September makes it doable. And I also agree completely with Al- if they go on a 4-5 game losing streak or lose say 6 of 8 or some thing like that, that pretty much kills them for the year.
  15. I agree that over the last few years, McDonalds' fries have gotten considerably worse.
  16. I had to read it a couple of times too- Victorino was ejected by the home plate umpire while he was playing defense in CF. Stunning.
  17. Good move if they were in it, but they're not. Weathers has an option for 2010. This is not exclusively a move for this season.
  18. Adam Dunn is one of the rare guys that is even more atrocious defensively at 1st base than he is in left. I would absolutely love to see some numbers to know how that can possibly be true.
  19. Wow, what an absolute joke. The guy behind the plate CLEARLY indicates a strike, then changes his mind after the runner is thrown out? Holy cow.
  20. I'd have a real interest in Dunn as a free agent to play first if they decide that offseason is the best time to move Fielder.
  21. Well, after another nice day yesterday, the Dow is back nearly 3000 points and almost 45% in just 5 months since its low. What a very interesting year, to say the least. Sure glad I kept putting into the market while a lot of people I knew were getting out...
  22. Molitor was awesome. Super personable. Agreed completely. Nice to have a person look you in the eye and say 'thanks for coming' when shaking your hand. I got there about 4:00, and echo everything Brew City said- people were lined along the highway waiting to get in. There were only maybe 20-30 people behind me that got an auto, and I'd say maybe 200-250 total. Considering that when they cut the line off there were still ~1500 people in line, ouch.
  23. Seemed to work, too - he did a nice job getting to that double. Of course if the Dodgers tie it here, it'll look pretty freaking stupid.
  24. Any team with good, young pitching that hires Baker is asking for trouble. Especially when their training staff is also clueless, apparently.
