  1. If it was September and we had a full complement of relievers and bench guys, I would have said we should have PH for Miley there the way he is throwing today. But still good to clear the pitcher spot.
  2. Ugh, tough to give that up. Braun really needs to go to 2nd on that ball to him, never had a shot at 3rd but cut it off and likely could have kept it 1st and 3rd, ended up costing a run.
  3. Both him and Pina have been relatively hot lately at the plate. Remember when almost everyone was clamoring for Stearns to upgrade the catcher position? Good times. I mean don't get me wrong, it's still a totally upgradable position, Kratz is still OPSing. 662 with some big defensive miscues lately and is below replacement level. I don't dislike Pina. I would just like him a lot better as a backup to a top catcher.
  4. Let's hope so. I remember us scoring exactly 4 runs in the 1st twice this season and we lost them both.
  5. The Cubs are way overdue for some heart shattering gut wrenching losses. Preferably in the playoffs or September.
  6. I'm guessing our stance was basically "Give him to us for free and we'll pay his remaining salary" and their stance was basically, "No, we want something for him."
  7. The most Brewer-like scenario today would be Harvey getting scratched last minute, the replacement for him gets shelled today, and the Cubs win like 12-11.
  8. I would find it weird and probably vindictive if the Reds hung onto Harvey. There is no reason for it, at the very least I'm sure ownership would like to save $1 million and the Reds would prefer to let a younger guy pitch a few games down the stretch. I suspect Riggleman is part of the posturing...I bet Harvey's bags are already packed Don't know. They just posted their lineup for today and he's in it. Seems pretty far to take the posturing for someone who is going to bring back a nothing burger anyway if dealt.
  9. Jim Riggelman said he fully expects Harvey to start for the Reds today.
  10. Seems kind of late in the season for that. Another week+ and you can call up any pitcher you want on the 40 so you've got Woodruff and others for that.
  11. No, they changed that rule a few years ago. All players on the 40 man roster on August 31st are eligible for the playoff roster. Oh ok thanks -- must have missed that.
  12. Or trying to avoid Peralta and Guerra both in the rotation. I wouldn’t be too shocked if one averages an ERA well over 5 the rest of the way. I wouldn't be shocked if Harvey did too. There's really no reason to assume that Harvey will outperform anyone in our existing rotation.
  13. Doesn't Santana (or Broxton) have to be added to the 25 BEFORE September 1st to be eligible for the playoff roster?
  14. Broxton in very limited time this year has a higher WAR than Braun, Thames, Schoop, Arcia, Pina, Kratz, and Perez. I know that's going to do little more than make WAR look really questionable, but I'm just saying it to illustrate that Broxton isnt a guy you just give away. His defense provides pretty substantial value, you could argue at his best it is to the OF what Arcia is to the IF. I'm not saying he is worth a ton but at least a young lottery ticket or two. We can always keep him on the 25 next year as a 4th/5th OFer if we can't get a fair offer, so there's still leverage.
  15. The issue with that is that a player on the 40-man would have to clear waivers to be included in the trade. Keon Broxton wouldn't. A DFA to make room seems more likely. Broxton would have a good chance to make it to Cincy on waivers though. Would just need to get past San Diego and Miami. But yeah that's probably an overpay for a rental of Harvey.
  16. Frankly after both Jeffress and Hamels, the Rangers' pitching coach isn't looking too good.
  17. We will have to clear a 40 man spot, so maybe someone who is on the 40 already anyway? Keon Broxton? I don't know, I feel like even that is way too much.
  18. Questions such as that have been debated at length in more topic appropriate threads. Here is one: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=36868&hilit=Khris+davis&start=60
  19. Who would have thought Knebel and Barnes would both spend time in the minors this year?
  20. It's just hard for me to get excited about the names being thrown around like Gonzalez and Harvey. Are any of these guys upgrades from any of Chacin, Anderson, Miley, Peralta, Guerra or a healthy Davies? If not, what is the point?
