  1. My guess is that if they continue to get 56 hits per series that will probably be a relatively winning formula.
  2. What was Seigler’s baserunning mistake? I didn’t see it, Gameday just said he was out at second on a single which seemed a little befuddling to me.
  3. Well, that could have been a little more productive of an inning. But at least they didn’t come away totally empty handed.
  4. I guess. I always assumed that MLB knows what’s going on in situations like this IL stint too but never really seems to do anything about it.
  5. I’ve always been fascinated that teams abuse the IL like this, but don’t use the same thing to get around the 3 batter reliever minimum when they just want a pitcher to face one batter. Why doesn’t a lefty come in to face one lefty and then ask a trainer to come look at his arm? Who’s going to tell him it doesn’t actually hurt?
  6. This is more of a random musing than anything, but relief pitchers in MLB are such a fickle, interesting breed. You might go from one of the best relievers on your team, to DFA fodder within the course of a year. And then in some cases, wind up being one of the best arms in a different pen later. There’s a few that are consistent and reliable year after year, but they’re rare. Many others follow the pattern of being valuable at various times and throwaways at other times. You almost need to think much differently than other roles on the team as to how to value the relief pitcher if you’re a GM. (And definitely not like A.J. Preller).
  7. Unless they really like something about Montgomery and want to see if he wants to stick around on a prove-it deal after rehabbing.
  8. Remember back in May when we were certain that our hitting coaches were out of touch and needed to be fired? I don’t know how you get a top 3 NL scoring offense out of these random hodgepodge lineups.
  9. If you had told me we would give up 9 runs tonight and I saw our lineup I would have said “hopefully we can take 2 out of 3”.
  10. He’s going down anyway after this game. Might as well wear it unless the score somehow actually gets dangerous.
  11. Yeah, we gotta stop trying to squeeze two innings out of McGee, he clearly can’t go two.
  12. Only 2 for 6 tonight for Yelich and he kept Vaughn from getting back to the plate. What a bum.
  13. Pretty sure Durbin was just feeling bad for the Nats because no way he shouldn’t have gone into 2nd standing on that passed ball.
  14. Well, 14 runs on 21 hits tonight, just as we figured when we saw the 1-9. Might as well find a place in the lineup for Trevor Megill tomorrow and see what happens.
  15. Contreras now up to a .734 OPS and 9 HR. Which, while I believe he can do better when fully healthy, those numbers alone are perfectly acceptable for a starter at that position with his defense.
  16. Quintana is just a guy who doesn’t have the best arm or best stuff anymore but is a smart and savvy pitcher who just happens to find it in the right moments and the games where you’re certain he’s been stinking up the joint all game you look up and he’s somehow through 5 with 2 runs allowed.
