Milwaukee Journal Sentinel going to a PPV site. You get to view 20 articles free per month but beyond that you have to buy a subscription. What a joke; I know it isn't a lot but I am still not going to pay to read an article online when there are plenty of other outlets I can use to get my information
Maybe because it was something embarrassing and he didn't trust MLB to keep it confidential. Considering it somehow leaked that he had a positive test, I would say that fear is justified. That doesn't necessarily absolve him, but it's at least justified.I think it is probably a safe assumption that there are a fair number of palyers that take a medication for some sort of embarrasing condition and we have not heard a peep. A leak about a failed drug test is a little different than a leak about a medication a player is taking. I just don't see Braun as much of a victim here as others. Yes he got screwed over that this got leaked but the end result is probably going to be the same. As a Brewer fan I hope he somehow wins but I'll believe that win I see it; there hasn't been much positive news on that front lately
This team looks really ugly when they are missing shots. However they can beat anyone in the country if they are making them. They may finish in the 4-6 range in the B10 but they are more than capable of getting hot and making a run in the B10 and NCAA tourney. They could also go 1 and done fairly easily as well. I agree that they really need some more team athleticism because outside of Taylor no one can get to the rim off of the dribble. Obviously that being the main reason they rely on the 3 so much.
I am pretty sure they can't just arbitrarily lower the length of the suspension. It is either 50 games or nothing. I am still going to be very suprised if he doesn't get suspended; there would have to be a major piece of information that we don't know to allow the positive test to get overturned. Based on everything I have heard regarding the drug policy; it sure seems to be ironclad Hopefully we can find out in the next couple of weeks and just move on.
Axford has been a great closer but saying he is the premier closer in the NL is stretching it. Premier closers have done it for more than 1.5 years. Granted Ax has been very good; but he still needs to do it for a couple more before I consider him in that upper echelon of closers. If the Brewers ever need to rebuild Axford will be the perfect trading chip. Certainl'y don't need a dominant arbitration eligible closer if you only win 70-75 games a year. Teams overpay for closers all the time
Count me in the group that gave up on them after the Big 3 was broken up. I have still casually followed them but it just hasn't been the same. The only time I watch the NBA at all is is the Bucks are playing; the style of play just doesn't suit me well I guess. Part of the problem has always been that the 82 game season a 2 months of playoffs is way to long. This 66 game season might be kind of nice. I really don't get into basketball mode until the football season is over; and even then it is usally NCAA and High School only. Don't get me wrong I will watch the Bucks if they are on but they need to show some consistent improvement before I even consider going to a game. Having exciting and athletic players wouldn't hurt either. We need Darvin Ham. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
The Cards definitely look good for next year. CIN, MIL, and STl are going to be battling for the title next year while PIT, CHI, and HOU get pounded relentlessy (Especially if it is true that the Cubs are trying to blow up the team). Free, Beltran, Berkman, Holiday, and Furcal is a really good group but there are tons of injury concerns and who knows if Berkman can duplicate what he did last year. Garcia, Carp, and Wainright is a real tough 1-2-3 as well.
Obviously never heard of the guy. His audience in his first game will be larger than the entire audience of all his previous jobs put together. I had completely forgot about Provus even leaving; I guess there has been some other news going on
Every baseball fan is the best fan in baseball. I feel the couple of fans that KC & Pitt have should be considered the best fans in baseball for their blind loyalty to inept franchises (Although they are coming around) Glad to see solid ticket sales; the real kicker will be how the first 1-2 months go. If they struggle the ticket sales for the 2nd half of the year are going to suffer and we won't sniff 3 million. I buy all my tickets about 2 months in advance; if we suck without Braun in May I may have trouble convicing myself to drop the dough on those July or August tickets that might be to a pointless game.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Minor league deal with spring training invite. Seems like a solid infield depth type move Also signed a random crappy LHP to minor league deal with invite
So what is to gain if the test was medication related? He is probably still going to be suspended and 95% of the general public will still label him a roider. If he was taking a medication, didn't inform the league, and failed the test I don't know what the point of all of this is. There has to be a missing piece to the puzzle. Could two different perfectly legal prescription drugs approved by MLB somehow combine to elevate T? I sure as heck don't know. And even if that were a possibility I would have to believe that MLB and various doctors would know about that possibility.
Would anyone actually want Morgan? Granted he was invaluable to the team last year but any new team would be hesitant to trade for the guy given his history and given that he doesn't walk a lick. I would be all for this signing assuming he looks alright once they bring him over for a workout. Looks like it could be a nice 4th OF and/or a nice 50 game replacement for Braun. So long as he doesn't turn out like the Twins SS this seems like a pretty solid acquisition if it comes to fruition.
I would certainly look into it. Melvin has to prepare for the fact that quite possibly Grienke, Marcum, and Wolf could all be gone after 2012. You don't want it to be Gallardo, Narveson, and 3 super young guys from the minors as your rotation going into 2013. Jurrjens didn't pitched a complete season in 2010 or 2011 so perhaps there are some durability concerns. If I were Melvin I would inquire on everyone at ATL; Jurrjens, Beachy, Minor, and Hanson. I am not sure where Hart would fit in at ATL though. They have Freeman at 1st and Heyward in RF. Can Hart or Heyward play LF?
All else remaining equal I would assume Prince would want to go to the most hitter friendly park possible. I am sure wants to be in the record books. So if Seattle wants him I believe they are going to have to pay more and perhaps substantially more. For that reason Texas seems to make sense to me; he could put up some crazy numbers at that park and with that lineup. He could also put up some monster numbers at Wrigley.
The only reason Hart is brough up so much as a trade candidate is only because he is the most logical choice given potential return, salary savings, etc. Braun, Gallardo, Weeks, Etc aren't getting traded. If you want to get rid of some salary while still getting a good return Hart just makes the most sense of anyone on the team. I like Hart and all but I wouldn't hesitate to trade him if the right deal came along. I am sure that he is not in the untouchable category that Gallardo, Braun, and Weeks are in.
That seems like a lot to give up for a guy with padded numbers at Petco. Going from the NL West to the NL Central will add quite a bit to that ERA one would imagine.
Well Braun said he would speak publicly about it but his attorney advised him not to. Hard to fault the guy if his attorney tells him its a bad idea. I have no doubt that he will talk about it; but only after the appeal is complete.
Herpes itself isn't a taboo topic but hypothezising that a very public person has it seems a little off base. No one wants something like this rumored about them. pebadger is way smarter than me
This does seem to be a pretty darn inappropriate conversation topic right now. We are really speculating about STD's now? I know a lot of fans are just trying to come up with something to explain away the weird test but it just looks foolish to speculate about this. Everyone is better off waiting until the arbitration process is complete. Whether he gets suspended or not it is likely that a statement will be made regarding what he tested positive for and why. If people were ashamed of certain fans for believing he was guilty right away it is even worse to spread around rumors of this nature.
Haven't chimed in on this thread yet but thought I would give my two cents. If Bogut can finally stay healthy for once and if Jennings can learn how to shoot; I think the Bucks can shoot for 35 wins or so (35-31) and maybe a 6 seed. Unfortunately the East is very Top heavy and find it very unlikely that the Bucks could ever make it out of the 1st round. And if they have injury issues and Jennings doesn't progress they are probably looking at 25 wins and another pick from 7-13 that won't yield a superstar that the Bucks desperately need. IMO the ceiling on this team just isn't very high but they do have a pretty low floor. Being a middling team in the NBA is a deathwish; not bad enough to get the high draft picks and not good enough to do anything in the playoffs.
For 2012 that isn't really the case; 4.25 for Gonzalez, $6 for Ramirez and probably a max of $13 for Krod; so while that is still a lot it isn't upwards of $30 Milliom That being said I have no idea why he got a $2M raise this year; seems like an overpay to me. However on a 1/2 year deal a million or so overpay isn't a huge deal
I wouldn't have any problem with Gomez, Schaefer, and Morgan rotating between CF and LF for 2 months while also mixing Gindl in there at LF as well. Given that Melvin indicated he is already over budget; it seems pretty likely that the short term substitute would be an internal option. I doubt Gamel would be used out there; but I guess you never know.
