  1. Wouldn't a "prohibited substance" that causes four times the natural level of testosterone be, by nature, a PED? Strange to have a distinction given the symptom (significantly increased testosterone).
  2. It's close, but I think watching the evening news the night of the crane collapse was worse. Same surreal feeling, though. And same panic thoughts about consequences and ramifications (in that instance, affect on scheduled opening, hosting All Star game, etc). Not to mention concern for families having lost loved ones just trying to build a sports stadium in our valley....
  3. So, the conferences that contain seven teams will be sending playoff representatives from the bottom half of their standings? That's stupid. The rest of the realignment plan doesn't sound bad, but they should have just done the top three teams from each of the conferences. (I know, a step back from the 16 teams they currently allow, too much money at stake blah blah, but 16 teams was way too many anyways.) Why didn't they just move Nashville to the southeast to take Atlanta's spot and make a corresponding move of Winnipeg to the central? Other than timezone inconvenience, Nashville would be completely at home, geographically, in a conference with Carolina and Tampa. Winnipeg fits okay geographically in a conference with Chicago and Detroit -- relatively great compared to being in southeast. Or, go one step further and move Minnesota into the central and Winnipeg into the northwest.
  4. Last off-season would have been a great time to trade McGehee ... unexpected big year and Green and Gamel waiting in the wings. Hardy's trade value was much higher earlier in his career than when we ultimately traded him, and we knew we had other SS options. Hall was traded at a super low point, definitely missed an opportunity to sell high on him, too.
  5. The wife and I just bought a new house in southern Waukesha county. On the drive there along Hwy Y as you're getting close, you cross streets named both "Cardinal" and "DeBack" in a 1.5 mile stretch. Quite a coincidence ... I guess I'll always remember what was going on in Milwaukee when we closed on our house when I drive that route! Sadly, I've seen no Ranger Ct or Tigers Dr in the area.
  6. I said this in the non-Brewers IGT and I stand by it: "2011 Cardinals are the 2010-2011 Packers. Tons of talent, great leadership at the helm, decimated by injuries and hindered by bad breaks, forced to settle for the Uno card instead of winning division, forced to hit the road for the entire playoffs, super dangerous & poised to shock the world, team of destiny." Don't get me wrong, I really really really hate "stare-down every-home" Pujols, "punk-clown-look-on-my-face" Molina, and "ass-u-R-aL" LaRussa, but I'd be dishonest if I didn't admit to respecting the crap out of what that organization does year after year. Duncan's inluence is a myth? You could probably convince me. LaRussa isn't really that good? You could probably convince me. All I know is, over the last handful of years it seems like all this Cardinals team does is exceeed expectation and turn potential excuses into distant memories as they just get it done. As a rival fan, I'd be lying if I didn't say I was jealous. Cards fans are the most spoiled fan base in the NL, and it upsets me greatly, but I guess it's mostly envy....
  7. Hopefully the language in this quote isn't strike-worthy, but your post reminded me of the Malibu cop in Big Lebowski: "I don't like your jerk-off name. I don't like your jerk-off face. I don't like your jerk-off behavior, and I don't like you, jerk-off." Yeah, that's pretty mush the way I feel about St. Louis. That, and I feel the same way about the Cardinals as the Dude feels about the Eagles.

  9. Chris Carpenter is such a deutsche bank. And Molina. And ass-u-R-aL. Please Philly, pull this one out in the 9th.
  10. 2011 Cardinals are the 2010-2011 Packers. Tons of talent, great leadership at the helm, decimated by injuries and hindered by bad breaks, forced to settle for the Uno card instead of winning division, forced to hit the road for the entire playoffs, super dangerous & poised to shock the world, team of destiny. I want them gone. I think the Phillies is a more winnable series, even without home field.
  11. Perfect thread for this comment: With Gomez at second and Morgan at bat, the first thing I thought of was that game Morgan hit the walk-off and "didn't know" that it was the 9th. On that occassion, Gomez was the first man out of the dugout to mob and congratulate Morgan. It stood out as impressive that someone competing for the same job as the other would be so enthusiastic for his success. No animosity or grudges between the two. And months later, in this moment, one was in position to drive in the other for a walk-off win in a playoff elimination game. It just felt right.
  12. Half an inning later, TBS shows a replay, Utley out by 3 inches. Great call ump. Booooo Cardinals, get bent, go Phillies.
  13. I think Utley beat it. TBS didn't even throw an adaquate replay to know for sure. (No surprise, they've sucked at replays all postseason.) I hate Molina so much. Go Phillies.
  14. Well, the only reason they were even in this game was because of a horribly blown non-strike-three call that allowed Upton another swing for his early solo shot. So pfftttt!!!!!!!!

  16. Yeah, with Casey up next, it's the right move to try for home even if you'll be thrown out by three steps.

  18. I missed it in live action, but caught it on FSN's replay. So genuine and impetuous/spontaneous, it will be one of my lasting memories from the 2011 season.
  19. Sadly, his defensive super-gem isn't getting much attention so far, over-shadowed by his mega-bomb and the big story of the team's frst division title in 29 years. MLB Network showed the defensive play, but ESPN's Baseball Tonight just recapped the entire game without mentioning it. Hopefully it gets a little more legs, because that play was amazing....
