  1. Dude was terrible away from Petco. Like Wily Peralta bad.
  2. This is terrible for the Rays. The Giants are going to have to win this year and next though because that team is going to get really old, really fast.
  3. You tend to have higher BABIPs when the contact you give up is hard, which Archer's is. I don't know why some are so willing to ignore that.
  4. My theory that Stearns thinks the roster vastly over performed last year and doesn't want to spend prospects or money for upgrades that won't get us to the playoffs is looking more and more realistic.
  5. It wouldn't take a lot for us to dip down to 73 wins. We won 86 but we're going to be without Nelson for an undetermined amount of time and if he gets back during the season it will probably just be to get some innings, not expecting ace like production. That's probably a 3-4 win drop and we're already down to 82 or 83 wins. If Anderson regresses to say a 1.5 WAR pitcher (last year's 3.3 WAR was more than he accumulated in 400+ innings over his career previously) then we could be in for another 2 win drop and we're down to 80 or 81. Knebel could regress, Santana could regress, Shaw could regress, Braun could get hurt and all of those things happening and they aren't as far fetched as some think, then we're probably in the 72-75 win range. Now obviously we could get breakouts from Arcia, Phillips, Brinson etc to push the win total back up but you had a lot of guys that are older doing things they never came close to doing before, so projections are probably going to have them regressing to somewhere between what they had done prior to last year and what they did last year and weighted closer to the lower end because there's more of a sample size of production or lack thereof.
  6. And in 2017 the AL East were 3rd, 19th, 22nd and 25th in OPS. Let some other team reap these supposed benefits of him getting out of the AL East.
  7. His ERA the last couple of seasons is completely justified by the crap ton of hard contact he gives up.
  8. Probably depends on what you mean by "spend." I doubt they'll max out payroll (probably $110-120M), but they strongly hinted that they were going to spend some money to fill some holes so I'd be surprised if they don't add salary somewhere. Stearns has already said that they have offers out to free agents, so he's not sitting on his hands. Of course he said that because he's not going to say to the fans "We don't really think we had an 86 win team last year and we expect regression this year." Instead he's going to say they're going to be in on free agents and have offers out to them but aww shucks we just kept getting outbid.
  9. What if Stearns thinks a large number of our players over performed and isn't willing to spend until they prove they can repeat what the did last year for another year?
  10. This sucks. I like Ozuna and now I have to hate him.
  11. Yeah, I'm going to need something better than that twitter account before I take any Santana to the Brewers rumors seriously.
  12. Well if you consider them the same Arroyo is controlled longer and thus cheaper because he isn’t in arbitration. That is his positive if that is your thought process. That's such a minor upgrade because it's not like Perez is expensive. My main point is I wouldn't even consider trading Santana for Hernan Perez level players/prospects.
  13. Christian Arroyo is Hernan Perez. Why would we have any interest in him?
  14. He's going to turn 28 early next season. He's not young, he's basically what he is at this point.
  15. And was ridden into the ground in the playoffs, especially the World Series.
  16. It is if Arrieta and Anderson don't decline, Woodruff improves and Hader can manage to not go 5 innings walking 6 guys every other turn.
  17. Can't wait for the entire SportsCenter episode on Judge and Stanton.
  18. Panik? What the hell is with everybody thinking we need every crap slap hitting 2nd baseman in the world on this team?
  19. Why do you want us to lose 90 games? Better question. Why does Tampa want a bunch of crap for Archer?
  20. Oh no, we didn't sign a guy for almost $40 million who might become a middle of the rotation starter away from Coors.
  21. Big for the Badgers to split in Minnesota. Hayton needs to either play better or sit his ass on the bench although Trent Frederic is probably a huge fan because Hayton is keeping him from being the biggest disappointment on the team.
  22. We're a small market on the West Coast of Lake Michigan.
  23. Minor league hockey players who play in the equivalent of AAA get a minimum of $42,375 per year (6 month season), a $65 per diem and the average salary is over $90,000. There's no reason you can't pay minor leaguers say $5,000 a month at the lower levels and say $15,000 at the upper levels over the course of a 5-6 month season. Even $25,000 isn't a ton of money but you can at least work with that and get some kind of part time job in the offseason and not have to worry about how you're going to pay rent or utilities or for something like your car breaking down. And it seems like the courts are going to need to rule in favor of the minor leaguers because for whatever reason the MLBPA doesn't seem to give a crap about minor leaguers. Not even willing to give up a tiny portion of their revenue to help 18-21 year olds trying to achieve their dreams or some career minor leaguer make a wage that he can actually support his family on.
  24. I think the thought process is the idea of salary sheds for cheap inexpensive pieces. While highly unlikely, I could see something like this if a team were willing to take on Chen as well. Why would the Marlins completely de-value one of their best assets by forcing a team to take Chen? If they want to shed salary, they trade Yelich for prospects, who you pay almost nothing to in the minors and the minimum in the majors and if they're not ready sign some crap player for less than a million to fill the slot until the prospect is ready to take over. Stanton? Sure I could see them taking on money to get a better return while still shedding significant salary. Yelich? There's no point in doing that since he makes so little.
  25. Yes and that place was a pile of crap anyways. There's not a chance teenagers would enjoy that. I doubt an 8 year old would enjoy that place.
