weeks better do well

to make me look smart.

I've made a couple of posts on a MLB-wide forum that Weeks has potential to have a stat line like .285/.410/.500/.910 with 25+ HR and 30+ SB, and have had a bit of ridicule directed towards me.

I saw an article that actually suggested Weeks might break out this year and put up numbers like the Reds' Phillips. To that I say, "I hope not"! If Weeks average is the same as phillips, his OBP should be about 80 points higher.

Weeks has gotten something of a bad rap from people. He's been dealing with a long-healing wrist injury which has to effect his average. But to his credit, those attributes not as much affected by his wrist, OBP and SB, he's been excellent. It was said that his injury could take a year and a half to heal, so to see what he did the last couple months of 07 only shows what a great player he is going to become. I think from here on out we're going to be very happy to have Weeks on our team.

When Weeks hurt his wrist again last year I believe the Brewers brought him back way to early. Which hurt him and he should have had at least a 2-4 weeks in the minors before they brought him back anyways.

People keep acting like Weeks sucked last year. He didn't do anything of the sort. His line was .235/.374/.433. Good for 10th highest OPS. Now that isn't Utley type numbers, but thats fairly good.

Rickie is probably the only 2B in MLB at this point that is capable of giving Utley a run for the money in terms of offensive output. That .433 SLG will be much improved upon in 2008.

The stat line suggested by DrWood would be well within Weeks's potential this this year. Just look at his line from last September... it was absolutely sick.

He better do well. I turned down a trade in my Diamond Mind league tonight. Matt Kemp, Joe Saunders, Frank Francisco, $10 PITCH Bucks (our league currency), and a first round draft pick for Weeks.

Am I dumb and just have Brewers blinders on, or what?

In a recent Fantasy Draft I did with a few friends on yahoo, I was queue-ing up all my favorite Brewers and I didn't know that it didn't take whomever was at the top of your draft order but instead by whomever is highlighted at the top of your queue... Long story short, I was ridiculed for taking Rickie Weeks fourth overall (in front of Utley). It does have OBP instead of AVE, however, so I got that going for me....which is nice.

ToliveBrew: I'm sorry but I'd have to put Brandon Phillips in that category as well. Last year, Phillips had: .288/.331/.485 I know Utley's number's are just sick (.332/.410/.566), but I'd put Phillips and Rickie in the same category nontheless.

Phillips has absolutely no chance of matching Utley, he just doesn't BB enough. He is a great fantasy player but just a good real player.

Well, Ennder said what I was going to. Phillips, though, is a superior defender to Weeks - though I wasn't initially factoring that in, obviously.

Weeks had an OBP of .373 last year. He obviously didn't match Phillips BA, but that's 42 points of OBP. Add to that the fact that Weeks is likley to increase his SLG and he should have a much higher OPS next year.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Weeks needs to avoid dry spells more than anything else. He's critical to their success. The Brewers lost 6 1/2 games of their lead in July when Weeks was hitting .125/.279/.143.

One player doesn't have that big of an impact. You'd struggle to find a player that accounted for that many games over the course of half a season, let alone a few weeks of play. Sorry for the pun.

On the front of ESPN Keith Law has him (along with Wainwright and Kendrick) as one of his breakout players. Predicted 20+ homers, OBP near .400 and plenty of steals. That is eerily close to your prediction. I'd be thrilled if that was his final line.
