Gamel Sidelined With Shoulder Impingement

Gamel Sidelined By Shoulder

Third baseman Mat Gamel was the last Brewer to report for Spring Training on Wednesday and he arrived complaining of shoulder pain. Gamel's physical exam revealed an impingement similar to the one that is sidelining outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr., and both players will refrain from throwing until the pain goes away.

Guess he won't get extra time this early ST with Halls injury.

All of a sudden, 3B has become quite thin. Lamb must be licking his chops thinking about how much playing time he's gonna end up with. Is Crede still available if Lamb takes a fall?

Crede is asking for like $7M. I doubt he is a viable option at this point.

Ouch! That is disappointing, especially since I keep reading his thowing is the area of his defense he needs to improve to cut down the errors. A guy I played ball with a few years ago had a shoulder impingement and it bothered him all summer long as a shortstop. Hopeully the good professional treatment lets Gamel heal up and work on his defense pain free.

So I guess Crede will be retiring then?

Actually, there was a blurb in the Minneapolis paper the other day about how Koskie was healthy and looking to play baseball again. Were Hall out longer, the Brewers might think about bringing Koskie in for a look.

Would be nice to see him get a token spring training invite at least.

I really believe this could be the best thing for the Brewers. I felt a "premature call up" coming on, and positively dreaded him breaking with the team after spring training. He needs a full year in AAA after last years finish/minor controversey. Lets not rush people.

From that article, Koskie is working out with the Twins in spring training, hoping to play in the WBC with Canada and catch on with a team from there.

It doesn't make sense for the Brewers to rush Gamel, who has very little experience above AA - they have 4-5 other players with big league experience who can play 3rd base, and the jury's still out on whether Gamel can play that position at the major league level.

Let the guy get healthy, pace himself through training camp, and make him force a decision by excelling in AAA this season.

Maybe if Gamel can never learn to throw he will be our future 1B. If we could trade Prince for some serious pitching and have an infield of 3B Hardy, SS Escobar, 2B ??, Weeks??, 1B Gamel, C Solome with Braun and Hart + Yo, Parra and a pitcher for Prince....not too bad.

Gamel has always had the laid back "surfer" dude attitude.

I am not sure what this means - but perhaps he was just taking a casual approach with his injuries. Either way, while I am a big fan of his baseball game, he appears to need to learn a bit of professionalism.

Can someone explain the shoulder impingement injury that Gamel and Gwynn have? I'm a bit confused how they can be injured before spring training even starts. Didn't they throw throughout the winter? Did they just start throwing a week before spring training and realized their shoulder was sore?
