What About Capallen and other for Lidge?

Posted

I was thinking what about:

Capallen and lets say Chris Hammond or Tim Dillard

to Houston for

Lidge and a decent A baller

Capellan would be in Houston and happy, and Lidge just needs a change of scenery IMO. Probably won't happen because both are in the same division, but IMO they match up.

Thoughts?

The Astros would be lucky to get a guy like Capellan for Lidge.

Lidge is essentially what Turnbow was last season, only Lidge hasnt turned it around and is paid 4x as much.

When assessing Lidge's value, I would look more towards Coco Cordero and his value a year ago, assuming Lidge shows some sort of inclination to throw strikes. He did work a scoreless inning tonight.

That pretty much sums up what I was gonna say. I mean I think he might turn it around if on another team, but I don't want our team to take a chance on that.

Lidge has been pitching very well as of late. His ERA is down around 3.00. He has around 30Ks to 11BB in 23 innings.

Given that Turnbow seems pretty shaky once again - I would be willing to give a decent prospect and pay all of Lidge's salary to have him on our team this year.

He could then transition into our closer next year.

For Capellan, I think I'd do it to try to push the team over the top and go for broke this year. Lidge has rebounded while he's been dominant in the past. That said, guys who can close have a propensity to be overvalued by dumb GMs, which could mean a hefty price at the deadline.

Brad Lidge is still a valuable trade piece for Houston. Its going to take a lot more than Jose Capellan to get him IMO. If/when Houston is ready to deal Lidge, they are going to get some very solid prospects at the bare minimum. Teams don't give up on arms like that for nothing. If they did, Turnbow would already be gone.

Isn't Chris Hammond that soft tossing, flat faced lefty that had some innings in CIN and ATL...

maybe you mean Steve Hammond, the one with potential and the one that I don't want to send to HOU...same goes for Dillard and Cappy, Latin...

Hmmm, I'd rather call up Capellan than trade him for Lidge.

DING, DING, DING. We have a winner! Tell him what he's won...

I guess now we'll see what Capellan is really worth.

I think Proctor might be having arm troubles. That said, he is a pretty solid reliever (and one that Torre loves) so I don't see them trading him.

Proctor's got a lot of baggage with him as well...just recently had a bastard child(a child that is not legitimate) with a chick from the YES network's pre-game show/yankee tv show (their version of our very own Ann Carroll), and is having tons of off-the-field issues that are supposedly affecting his pitching...all this has culminated in him being viewed to be some sort of a headcase, and from what I've heard, he's not throwing particularly well this year anyways.

So I wouldn't do it, but... to each their own.

Lidge's numbers are better than Turnbow's for the most part.

I don't know how available Lidge actually is, but it's certainly an interesting idea. The Brewers need someone else that's capable of pitching the 7th and 8th when Turnbow isn't available other than the mixed bag that's Wise/Shouse/Capellan/Spurling.

I wouldn't be upset if they used Villanueva more though.

Lidge seems to have righted the ship for now at least and has been dominating,in May

16 IP

1.10 ERA

.061 WHIP

22 K's

.113 BAA

Maybe getting him out of the closers role was what he needed.I'd love to aquire him if they didn't ask for to much in return.
