This game and the final game against the White Sox, Hoffman faced the big lefties in the lineup and ended up giving up runs, no reason for Stetter not to be pitching in those situations.

Is there a rule that you have to bring your closer in a save situation? If Yost did that he'd have been fired 1,000,000 times on this site.

Every manager in the game brings in the closer in that situation. Macha did nothing different than any other manager. Sure, in hindsight, he could have played it different. Plain and simple, Hoffman didn't get the job done tonight. It was bound to happen.

Ken Macha had to mess around by using the known to be wild Seth McClung. Just win the game you're in and worry about not having him available when it occurs. This game is on Macha if we lose, and I hope he accepts full responsibility if we do. Yost-esque managing of the bullpen between the final game of the Atlanta series and this one.

I wasn't fond of seeing Seth come out for a third inning either, especially after a shaky 8th. Why not start the 9th with a fresh arm like Stetter?

If that's the case, then why have a situational lefty? Those were the highest leverage ABs in the game -- situations tailor made for Stetter. It was the 9th though, so the designated "closer" must pitch, even though the matchups favor Stetter. Ugh.

It's not hindsight and some managers make the exception. Just because the masses are ruled by playing for a statistic, I don't see why you would justify that line of thinking. Managers and coaches follow a lot of stupid norms in all sports. Icing the kicker being an example in football.

My guess is he hoped to save the rest of the bullpen while stretching Seth out a little in preparation for being the 5th starter.

This is a lot more than one game Macha may have lost us. We followed the debacle in Atlanta, with a sweep at the hands of the Rockies, at home. Talk about a momentum killer.

Seth got bailed out even in the 8th i thought by guys swinging at balls, he wasn't exactly sharp and was on his third inning. Yea it's hindsight, but i was nervous when i saw him back out there even with a 4 run lead.

boy, what's the fan graph for this game look like? Momentum completely on Cleveland's side, after that 1-2-3 10th inning we put on the board.

I really don't think that what Macha did was all that bad. It was a choice he made to go with the guy who is perfect in save situations and has only allowed runs in one appearance. So it backfired. That will happen. He's 100x better than Yost and no one can tell me otherwise.

I agree. I was just proposing a possible motive for Macha to do that. I don't like the idea of Seth going more than 2 innings unless it's a blow out game. I think he's at his best coming in as a 1 inning set up guy, while maybe going 1+ if he's dealing.

IMO that was key given their pen sucks and now Wood is out of the game, this inning at least favors us.

I think my shaving has caused a dramatic time-energy shift which caused Hoffman to blow the save.

I have never been happier to see Greg Aquino, lol. Lets hope Fielder can hit one out.

Greg Aquino pitches: hope springs eternal.

Anyone got a cheese sandwich?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Ah. Now we know how the opposing team's fans felt when we let Greg Aquino pitch a couple years ago, lol.

I really don't understand why Macha's gone from "we need to protect Trevor" to the Yostian "save situation = Trevor" mentality. He's been used something like 4 times in 5 days now, and hasn't looked good in a few days.
Why the need to call it Yostian. It is an MLB manager thing. Save situation=closer. That's how managers manage. I am still surprised by how many people thought a closer would be used differently because we changed managers.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.
