The JS Sports Staff [Latest: Witrado leaves for Sporting News, replaced by Todd Rosiak]

I never had a problem with Drew Olson and do enjoy him on the radio. I just don't think he would go back into beat writing. Brainerd would be fine with me, I just don't think it could get any worse than Tony W.

I also won't be surprised if 1992casey's observation above turns out to be right on target - that some of the quality level of Brewers beat writers at the JS can be traced to how the JS wants things done.

The 2 people you would think are most responsible for Witrado's writing and him keeping his job are now gone so hopefully that helps.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

According to Todd Rosiak's facebook page, he will be the new Brewers guy alongside TH. Great writer, but it sounds like he does not have any interest in baseball

If this can be confirmed from a second source, we should probably give this a new topic.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Rosiak is the Marquette writer for the JS, I don't really read a lot of Marquette stuff, but from what I have read, I like him.

TH said in his chat today that they would fill the position from inside the JS, so Rosiak makes sense. Plus, Rosiak already did some blog posts for the Brewers after the Greinke trade.

Here's one.

I'm not sure how Rosiak will fit into some fans' desire (especially around here) for a beat writer that is in touch with "new" stats. One thing I know about Rosiak's MU coverage is that he doesn't hesitate to interact with bloggers and message boards. Perhaps Brian or one of the other mods here can reach out to him if this is confirmed.

He posts frequent blog entries and lots of twitter posts and his writing seems to be about 100x better than Witrado.

Rosiak will probably become WSSP's new Brewer "insider", so what he provides in his audio segments there will hopefully be more interesting than what one can provide in terms of a gameday beat.

Actually its on Tom Haudricourts facebook page so if any of you are friends with him on there you can read it on his page.

Maybe ask Rosiak a question in the live blog tonight that he is hosting on the js website. Might be able to get an answer out of him there.

Wow, congrats to him for the unique opportunity he will have. He one of the better writers the MJS has. Him and TH will no doubt have one of the best blogs out there as they are both blogging enthusiasts. Think it will probably take some time for him to get all the advanced metrics of baseball stats down though. Looking forward to reading his stuff though while he is on the beat

Rosiak used to do preps (he and Lori Nickel were good in that role) and has done a great job with MU for a few years. He's a classy writer/reporter in that he never talks down to readers and tries to pique their curiosity.

Anthony Witrado - the Marvin the Paranoid Android of Brewers coverage. Thinks he has a brain the size of a planet but no-one else can stand listening to him.

One more reason to ignore The Sporting News. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

As long as Todd can put together coherent sentences he will be a step up from Witrado. What is Sporting News thinking??
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

It hired Gary Howard. They think he's the one that makes Packer Plus so profitable, not the fact the Packer fans are so rabid they'll pay to subscribe so they can get website content. He's bringing his guy with him.

Ah, that's right. I wonder if AW was his first choice?

Man, the JS Sports Writing just got a whole lot better if for no other reason than addition by subtraction. Howard's occasional pieces were awful.

From everything said he wants AW to be his next Steven A Smith.
A rambling fool that writes/speaks only in cliches? I think Jim Rome and dozens of others have already claimed this mantle.

they don't compare to me. Stephen A. Smith is loud/cliche, but AW is really more the ignorant slacker. but considering AW's mass-media competition, he should have a long and successful career doing what he's doing.

off-off-topic, but Stephen A. Smith's radio show is the worst thing i've ever heard in my life.

Is anybody else creeped out by that picture of the 80 year old lady at the top of the sports page? It's like I now know who killed Baby Jane.
