I hate the Reds.

I hate that bandbox more than I hate the atrocity of a left field in Houston.

I hate Dusty Baker.

I hate umpires.

See you all on Saturday.

That wasn't an easy DP. Had to go all the way around the diamond on a ball that wasn't hit all that hard and Bruce isnt slow by any means. It was a good idea, but you need to make sure you get at least one.

Dear Axford,

I know you learned a lot from Hoffman last year, but you should have skipped the bit about blowing saves in April

Sincerely,

Long Suffering Brewers Fans.

Honestly, I think it's pretty disingenuous of people to start harping on the terrible Brewers defense when it was good all game. Casey's play was less bad defense and more just a bad decision. It's something that is pretty unusual to have happen. But you know, let's not talk about the really nice plays he made.

The defense being "pretty good" for most of the game is totally irrelevent. It only takes one big mistake to screw up the game (like McGehee's.) Good teams make defensive mistakes but not as frequently and usually not as severe.

I really hope this is just one bad outing for Axford. As I said earlier I've had an aweful feeling that he will struggle out of the gate and lose his spot while costing us 6 games in the process.

Agreed. He made a few nice plays.

Should have made sure he got at least one, but its not like the defense was bad today at all.

positives: Brewers outplay rival for 8.5 innings. Brewers gave up 12 hits, but 1 should have been an error and at least 4 others occurred on broken bat flares. Brewers pitchers generally worked around a very tight strikezone (especially at the bottom of the zone).

negatives: Roenecke made several mistakes including not using his bullpen lefties, not double-switching resulting in burning an extra PH, McGehee needed to either get the lead runner or go for a 6-4-3 DP, not a 6-3 DP. too many homers allowed.

I don't want to hear how McGehee blew the game. Axford pitched poorly. Horrendous 0-1 pitch to Hernandez, walked Votto, Got away with meatballs to Bruce and Gomes. McGehee's mistake didn't help, but I'm not sure every CF in the league makes that 2nd out anyway.
