Cubs send Izturis to Pitt for PTBNL

they really are doing a number on their roster, and have been non-stop since last off-season. that can't be good for team chemistry. i would think thats an advantage to us, having had the same guys around the whole time, with minimal changes

Are the Cubs playing fantasy baseball? I don't know what it does for team chemistry but it can't help a manager to have a new bunch of guys to learn their strengths and weaknesses on a continual basis. Then agian it was Izturis. Maybe they are looking for Lou's type of guys and are adding by subtracting.
There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

For the Bucs' sake, I hope they can deal Captain Jack & his ridiculous contract. $8-ish mil./year for a poor-hit SS is crippling to a payroll that low. Now Boston on the other hand....(just thinkin')

I think it works both ways with chemistry. Sure, the team is constantly changing. But, at the same time, players can look at it as "management is trying to make a run."

Granted, trading Izturis doesn't accomplish much other than clearing a spot on the 25-man roster.

The loss of Izturis helps their team chemistry. The Cubs got it going when they brought up Fontenot. Fontenot, Theriot and De Rosa have all been key components of their recent charge. Izturis was never close to being a team leader on this team.

There's one more element to this deal. It makes room for Ronny Cedeno. Sure Cedeno struggled last year, but he had a stretch where he hit, and he's been scorching AAA this year: .362/.430/.559, .989 OPS.

Unfortunately, it is a lucky-stroke for the Cubs. They had: DeRosa, Theriot, Fontenot, all ahead of Izturis. Additionally, Ronny Cedeno has been hitting AAA pitching very well. Izturis was a black hole on their roster due to his offensive struggles, and hefty paycheck. Now the Cubs' roster crunch is somewhat slackened.

It seems with the ownership up in the air, the Cubs are not allowed to simply release players and eat the remainder of the contract, hence Jacque Jones is still on the team as was Izturis. Therefore, even though they are more than likely paying Izturis' contract, they now can shuffle their roster around to add another bullpen arm, or they can call up Cedeno and give DeRosa more time in RF.

Long story short, Hendry gets Littlefield to bail him out off a mess he made

Who would trade for Jack Wilson?...

That is the 8 million dollar question.

I don't see that happening, because Cedeno likely wouldn't get any more playing time that Izturis was getting. But, I've been wrong many, many times before and nothing surprises me with Jim Hendry.

I don't get what the Pirates get out of this deal. Izturis is a FA after this year is he not? What's the point in trading for a guy for 2 months, when you aren't going anywhere anyway.

If they do trade away Wilson, and I highly doubt they do, they must have a guy in the minors that could give them what Izturis would do for them. Doesn't make sense, other than Tracy and Izturis get to have that ex-dodgers reunion they must have been hoping to have.
