Don't care what anyone says, Carlos Gomez is deserving of a roster spot for his defense alone. A backup roster spot, but a roster spot.

Just because he knows to make catches look more difficult than they really should be by unnecessarily jumping and crashing into a wall? Nope. Sorry.

All I need now is for my Virginia Cavaliers to finish off UC-Irvine after a rain delay today to make it to the CWS and my weekend will be complete.

This is the worst post yet. To even mock Gomez on defense is laughable. The dude is ridiculous. It's not even up for discussion.

I think both statements are correct. He does make things look more difficult than they really are (today's catch/double flip catch) but he may be the best defensive CF in the game and there is a definite need for him on this team.

Great game, great late inning sub (I am not sure Kotsay gets to that ball, I think he does but who knows), and Prince's hitting is ridiculous.

WOW! I went out to get groceries for dinner and came home expecting to see the same disappointing 3-0 score line. Epic win.

The sCrUBS are now 12 games out of first place! Looks like their "dark-horse" season has been bucked.

How far was Gomez from the wall when he caught that? Two feet or so? It looked to me like he caught it and immediately braced for impact. I really don't think he embellished very much on that play.

How terrible is 1250?

I tuned in earlier and heard Tim Allen say, "This is the Brewers first sweep of the Cardinals since 2007." Uhh...it's happened three times since then, all at Busch.

Yep, that's correct the Brewers have swept the Cards on the road. But it is true this is the first home sweep of the Cardinals since 2007.

They kept bringing this up during the telecast today. I don't totally hold this against Tim Allen.

But a sweep is a sweep. And it came vs. the Cardinals to top it off for first place. This is good stuff.

I agree. After watching the replay there was no embellishment there. He was going back as fast as he could and braced for the impact. I think those that are saying he made it look harder than it really was are not considering how fast he was moving to catch up to that ball. Most center fielders don't catch up to that one. Nice win!! Ladies and Gents... your 1st place Milwaukee Brewers!!

Best part of that HR. Cards TV announcers call was simply: "uh oh." followed by 90 seconds of radio silence until they went to commercial.

Caught that...just priceless. The sound of defeat in their voice was just beautiful.

Next words were...this Miller Park crowd is smelling first place.
I would love to get a clip of this. Can anyone share (or point to) this online?

Nice day at the ballpark. Great to sweep the classies and take control of first place. Keep the good times rolling! What a difference quality starting pitching makes.

we need to take this on the road to Chicago and Boston and come back still in First Place will be great. I am sorry but i love the way Gomez comes in an play CF.

I just got back from the game and I gotta say that the bottom of the 6th was absolutely ELECTRIC. I havn't seen the whole place charged like that since the playoffs. Myself, the people in the group and even random strangers were remarking how you could just feel that Prince bomb coming. It was truly remarkable. Hands down one the top 3 games I've ever been to.

What else I loved about being there, I bet 90% of the crowd stayed on their feet cheering through the whole 9th, and until the Brewers were fully back in the dugout. Really great crowd today.

The prince bomb might've been my favorite moment in Miller Park ever. I was embarrassed by the way some drunken idiot Brewer fans treated some of the Cards fans after the game, though. I may hate the Cardinals, but their fans once again exhibited total class (sorry, had to say it) on multiple occasions today. We're not all sore winners and drunken baffoons. Hopefully they realize that.

Yeah, the Sunday crowds aren't always fully engaged with the game, but today the majority knew what was at stake. Boy, that was fun. I was also happy to see Shaun Marcum finally move past six wins; dude has pitched well enough lately so it probably should have happened by now.

I hope the Brewers don't rest on their laurels now...and I hope Chris Carpenter's son is coping well tonight.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Wow what an exciting game and exciting weekend series. It was a great sweep. Prince is on fire right now and it sure is fun to watch.

Add: As for the Gomez thing, I don't think he tried to make the catch look more dramatic, I do think he added a bit of acting at the end. He might do that from time to time but I don't think he tries to make catches look better. If anything he makes them look easy with the range he has. He's a goofy cat, I just enjoy it!

I went back and watched it last night, and I don't think Gomez tried to make the catch look more than it was, but I do think he thought he was a step closer to the wall than he was.

Edit: And I don't believe for a second Kotsay gets that ball.
