What Brewer Players Do You Enjoy Watching The Least?

The RR thread had me curious which Brewer players, Brewer fans extract the least enjoyment from watching. I don't want to turn this into anything personal, like "I just HATE player X!" but we ARE supposed to enjoy watching these guys perform. If, for whatever reason, you cringe every time the player trots out of the bullpen or gets a start in the field, I want to see their name here.

List your top cringe-inducing players (up to 5) and I will compile them. If the guy sucks or is under performing but you still want to see him get playing time so he has a chance to prove the world wrong, don't list him!

Ever since the day he was acquired there's been one thread after another devoted to bashing Betancourt, Can't you guys just put it to rest? You got your wish, Josh Wilson is in there now. Of course, playing everyday, he'll be exposed too.

Yes, my wish was always to have Betancourt fail so miserably that Josh Wilson would be the starting SS for the Brewers in July. A dream come true.

I'm not interested in any player getting "bashed" in this thread. I simply want a list of players that fans least enjoy watching. No one is making you play along.

Misused or not, here's a guy who knows he has to keep the ball down and far too often he grooves his sinker down the middle. How can he not understand, if I'm going to miss, it's going to be missing low?

1. Yuniesky Betancourt. I don't think there's any single player I have ever despised watching more than him. He makes routine grounders an adventure, and he has one of the worst swings I've ever seen. He might be my least favorite Brewer of all time, if not for Gary Sheffield's existence.

1. Yuniesky Betancourt, "Batter Nine You Sucky": I really don't know whether or not he is a lazy ballplayer, but his entire game reeks of a player who just doesn't listen or put effort into his game. Everybody here is probably putting him here for the same reasons(s)(s) I am.

2. Mark Kotsay: I can't stand players who seem to get by only on the adage that they are "good clubhouse guys, grizzled veterans, or professional ballplayers". He doesn't hit any better than Carlos Gomez and he's worse in the field than Ryan Braun.

3. Josh Wilson: He's a AAA ballplayer who is playing in the majors. He's not good in the field and his bat is hardly better than YuBet's. He is the definition of replacement level, that "mythical" player that can be, and has been, acquired for nothing more than a bag of balls.

4. Casey McGehee: I cheer for Casey McGehee, and I really like the guy. He was always tough to watch in the field (which was only compounded by the praise he often received from announcers), but now he seems to have completely lost it at the plate as well.

 

On the flip side, my favorite players to watch are (1) Rickie Weeks, (2) Nyjer Morgan, and (3) John Axford. Honorable mentions go to Mark DiFelice and Zack Greinke.

I get this about Betancourt. He's frustratingly impatient at the plate. As a result he almost never walks and far too often puts "pitcher's pitches" in play. There is nothing wrong with his swing, but when you are swinging at pitcher's pitches, it's going to look worse than it is. Defensively, his range is definitely below average but not that noticeable unless you are predisposed to think that it is.

 

But where are you getting "he makes routine grounders an adventure"? He's got 226 assists, and 10 errors. Fielding percentage isn't the total picture of defense but it sure is as regards to "routine grounders". His fielding percentage is .970. The league average for the position is .971. Robin Yount's career average was .964. Josh Wilson's is .955 and that ball Wilson booted in the 9th yesterday is one Betancourt makes in his sleep.

 

I know you don't like the guy, but at least be fair in your analysis.

 

That's my whole problem with this Betancourt stuff. The criticism of this guy is completely over the top. I'm not a huge fan of him as a player, but I do recognize unfair criticism and this guy has gotten plenty.

Wolf-Even though he hasn't been bad, I can't stand watching him pitch and constantly watching out best catcher have to sit because he is pitching.

Yuni-I seriously have as much range as he does. I'm not joking either.

Gomez-Its infuriating to see a guy with that much talent be so bad at hitting and other fundamentals

1. Betancourt. Terrible plate approach, and terrible defense.

2. Wolf. The Wolf/Lucroy situation is just ludicrous. Kottaras (despite having decent splits actually) starts vs. lefties far too often, by the simple fact that Wolf seemingly can not play nice with others.

3. Counsell I was an advocate of his earlier in the year when his OBP was on the positive side of .300, but he's done nothing to show that he's not completely done at this point.

Of the 2011 Brewers who have crossed my path, I'd have to say Wil Nieves. Or does he not count because he's not on the 40 man roster?

I'd add Daniel Ray Herrera, but I didn't actually see either of his outings.

 

Yuni makes me sad, mainly when he's in the field, just because I have this irrational thing for competent defense. For some reason I'm not angry with him, though. Seeing him reminds me of how badly the Brewers need a different SS.

 

It takes some doing to make me just plain turn on a Brewer, but once it happens there is rarely any going back for me. Wil Nieves, Jeff Suppan, Jose Capellan, and a host of 1990s and early 2000s closers who let me down once too often. (Or in the case of Mike DeJean, many times too often.) So it's uncommon for me to specifically not enjoy seeing a Brewer. I even sort of came around to Diego Edmonds, eventually.

I agree with you but it is a never ending battle. I agree with everything you said and you are totally right. They have read to many blogs and posted they things so often, they don't even watch the game with any sort of reality. He is not my favorite guy either but he is far from this completely lost player. Josh Wilson will play now and in a week or so we will see the same bashing of him. I just don't understand the hate for the players. Some guys slump and get killed and some slump and it doesn't get noticed. Very selective stuff.

I don't think low key= apathetic. Yount was a very quiet, reserved guy- especially early on in his career. Weeks is another guy who never really shows any kind of emotion when he plays.
