Plane Crash in Lake Michigan

Hear all the cops flying past my apartment, and turned on TMJ 4 who is reporting they believe there is a small jet which crashed in Lake Michigan right near McKinley Marina. Tragic, and hopefully everything ends up as well as it possibly could http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

What a crappy day. Pooring on the way to work with accidents all over, a semi truck crashed on the interchange and now a plane crashed in the lake.

 

Should have stayed home today.

A small, corporate-size plane went down in Lake Michigan this afternoon, according to the Coast Guard.

 

The Milwaukee Police Department notified the Coast Guard that a plane went missing about 4 p.m., Petty Officer David Warfel said. The Coast Guard found the plane about 20 minutes later, he said.

UPDATE: Organ transplant team on plane

A plane that crashed into Lake Michigan this afternoon was carrying members of an organ procurement team from the University of Michigan, a university official confirmed this evening.

 

The team was in Milwaukee to harvest organs, said university spokeswoman Krista Hopson. She could not confirm what hospital or what kind of organs were involved in the procurement run and said more information will be released as it becomes available.

All plane crashes are tragedies, but this one makes me sick. 4 organ transplant specialists/doctors are killed in the crash.

Wow, that's truly horrible.

 

Who knows how many patients are also without the organs they had probably waited years to get as it was. "Unspecified organs" implies more than one, and with cardiac guys, at least one was a heart, you'd think.

They had lungs. This is so sad. They wanted to save lives and gave theirs in the mean time. A 42 minute flight not only killed them, but maybe the prepped transplant patient. It is also possible it's a child who was to receive the double lung transplant. My prayers for all involved.

If the lung transplant patient was a smoker I wouldn't feel bad for the patient just the doctors and pilots. If you need a lung transplant because you purposely wreck your orginal lungs you don't really deserve a transplant.

as someone who has had two family members saved because of transplants, I feel terrible right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to all parties involved, directly and indirectly.

It's one thing to say smoking is bad. It's another thing to say they deserve to die because of it. My dad started smoking at 13 (not a typo), and has tried countless times to quit, including the gum, patch, and several doctors visits. Addiction is tough to beat, regardless the substance (I have tried to give up soda, but get migranes that last several days due to caffiene addiction).

 

What if they worked in a coal mine? Do they deserve a transplant? They knew the risk involved, and worked there anyways.

One of the doctors was described as a pediatric specialist which either means the patient was a child or possibly because he was the junior physician it was an adult and he was assisting for the experience.

People who smoke were warned not to smoke, right on the package, before the smoked their first cigarette, so they knowlingly, intentionally and purposely chose to put their life at risk, they do deserve to die because they chose it.

wow this thread really took a turn. I don't smoke, but that doesn't mean that I or anyone else could get lung cancer from second hand smoke. Thats a really harsh stance. Back in the day noone knew that it was cancerous and some just couldn't just quit. It happened to my great aunt.

 

Does that mean that someone who enjoys eating at mcdonalds and needs a new heart should not get one either?
