Preseason Top 100 Prospect Lists - Pipeline / BA / BP / Fangraphs

Brinson is a lock, obviously. There may be a bit of a drop though.

 

He's really the only Tier 1 guy, but Tier 2 is loaded. I see Burnes, Harrison, and Hiura as guys who will definitely be there somewhere, so that's a minimum of 4.

 

I expect Ray and Diaz to likely drop off. Woodruff is iffy. Lutz and Peralta look like outside shots to me. Phillips is technically still eligible for Pipeline, and frankly deserves to be back on, but I expect him to get overlooked.

I see Brinson and Burnes for sure in the top 30. Harrison, Hiura, and Woodruff in the 50s or 60s somewhere. Phillips, Ortiz, Peralta, Diaz, Ray, Lutz, Erceg are probably on the bubble somewhere. Probably all somewhere between 90 and 175, at that range where many guys blend together for different reasons.

My predictions for BA would be Brinson in the #10-#20 range, Woodruff and Burnes in the #40-#60 range, Keston Hiura in the #60-#80 range, Harrison and Ortiz in the #80-#100 range. I would predict six total.

I think Houser is too old, too low of upside, and too likely to land in relief. His best case scenario is probably a mid-rotation starter, but he's far more likely to land in relief at this point.

Brinson should stay top 20. Harrison, Burnes and Hiura should be in the 40-70 range I should think. I don't think prospect evaluators are particularly concerned with the relative down years Ortiz and Diaz had in 2017, they should still be around the bottom, or just outside. Phillips and Woodruff are techically still eligible; Woodruff is a possibility, but I doubt Phillips will be on there. I don't think Peralta, Lutz or Erceg will make it, but could be in there by the end of the season perhaps if they do well and as prospects graduate.

MLB Pipeline hasn't been updated in a while so could be anybody on that list but the Baseball America Brewers top 10 was updated early November so based on that I would think Brinson, Woodruff, Burnes, Hiura, Harrison and Ortiz are in the top 100. Possibly Philips.

I think your first 5 are locks, then there are a few others that could potentially sneak into the last handful of spots. If I had to pick an exact number of top 100, I'd go with 6.

It's pretty nice seeing a big fat bagel next the the Cubs on this list. Winning is about to get alot more expensive for them the next few seasons

I'll take the 7 in the top 100 chances are better that one or more become at least an all star level player.

I agree in that I'd take as many top 100 prospects as I can get over a couple of top 20 prospects. How much difference is there really between 50 and 75 in the rankings?

I couldn't agree more. Without that certainty though, I'd rather have a consistently successful team that's in the mix for playoffs every year...and hope certain years things break right. That in my opinion is the best way to win a world series, we tried the all-in approach last time we had a good farm and it didn't work out. Meanwhile the steady Cardinals hung around every year and managed 2 titles and a ton of success...primarily building through the farm with a few smart free agency decisions mixed in.

 

I'd definitely take 7 top 100 to 2 top 20. Having those blue chip guys is nice, but the Brewers need lots of solid guys coming through consistently...not a new star player every so often.

The point is I'd take the Cubs World Series title and crappy farm over the Brewers' current situation. Top-end prospects are nice, but the end goal is always Major League success. If some of these stud prospects mature and can lead the Brewers to a title, great. But others are going to be used as currency.

It's good to see Phillips get some recognition for still being a young prospect who showed a lot at the MLB level. I thought he deserved to return to top 100 lists, but I didn't think he would.
