Good point here, Rizzo has been in the league a while and doesn't have a history of doing anything like this.

Except, he does.

The Cubs are widely loved by everyone everywhere, especially media... but Rizzo has been known to be "old school" as they call it... Baez is "spirited".. it's all how the narrative is spun

13th inning. 1st and 3rd one out. Maddon lets the pitcher hit with Baez and another bat on the bench. Also, had plenty of relievers available. Pitcher struckout, and so did Bryant. No runs. Can't imagine why on earth he would make that move.

It's also an absolute delight to listen to John Smoltz complain about how long baseball games are. Like dude, do you even like baseball?

I agree but of course it all works out for maddon the genius hipster. Hate that guy.

He still wound up having to use morrow to close out a 6 run lead...they won, but their pen is getting overworked much moreso than the brewers.

Except their bullpen wasn’t overworked. The starter went 6 innings, someone went 5 innings, and the actual pen arms covered 3 innings. Sure they had to use Morrow...but he has 20 innings on the year. Not really that overworked.

I know you are talking more in the grand scheme, but this game isn’t really a good example of that.

Yesterday marked morrow's 3rd straight appearance in three days, carl Edwards Jr is on the dl with a sore shoulder, and the cubs are likely going to tell Lester that he needs to give them at least 7 innings today no matter the pitch count because their pen is limited to who is available.

Yes I'm talking grand scheme of things...games like last night wear on a pitching staff regardless of who throws - especially for a team that has at least five fewer off days than the team they are chasing.

I was at the Angel-Ranger game last night. Was Albert Pujols 3000 hit bobblehead night and ceremony. While I “despised” him as a Cardinal, and yes he still watches his home runs longer than any human alive, he really does seem to be a good guy off the field. Read a lot about his work with Down syndrome children (I believe he has one). A lesson we all have to learn is that we can “hate” rivals on the field, but like them for what they do off it.

The Diamondbacks lineup tonight features 3 hitters that have OBPs over .300. The one with the highest OBP in the lineup? That would be pitcher Patrick Corbin at .348.

How much longer can (or will) the Orioles continue to use Chris Davis' awful, awful contract as justification to run him out there every day? He's currently on pace to have the worst WAR season. Ever.

It's not like this is a few weeks or a small sample now. We're almost halfway through the season.

The good news is uh..... they only owe him 23 million per year for uh..... 4 more years.

At this point they must be hoping he has a career ending injury and they can claim the insurance. Not likely to injure himself sitting on the bench...

I loved the intentional hit batter leading to a huge rally in the Pit/AZ game a couple nights ago to cost the game. This way of playing can't go away fast enough

Thought this was really cool. Not sure I've ever heard the full audio from an intense ejection situation before. Quite interesting as well that if I were to watch without sound I think I may draw a different conclusion and feel the umpire appeared a bit aggressive, whereas with the audio I feel he handled it very well.

For context, this was in May 2016, and "the situation" and "MLB did nothing to that guy" refer to the Chase Utley takeout slide that broke Ruben Tejada's leg in the previous postseason.

I'm going to constantly use our ass is in the jackpot now. I have no idea what it means but it's glorious.

I cannot believe the Cubs gave up Gleyber Torres (and spare parts) to rent Aroldis Chapman for 2 months. I know they won the World Series that year, but my goodness would this look like a retrospective nightmare if they hadn't. Torres is so good. And he's 21.

Soler is finally looking decent too. IMO the Cubs really gave up a chance to have a dynasty type team right now to make sure they left no stone unturned to win the WS in 2016. Which, after 100+ years I guess you can argue the merit of that, but wow. I'm really glad we aren't facing the prospect of going up against a lineup that includes Bryant, Rizzo, Torres, Jimenez, Almora and Contreras in a year or two.
