For the third time this week CC tries to squeeze another inning out of a starter who doesn't have it and for the second time it bites him in the rear and would've been a third time if Hader didn't save his rear.

 

This is one of my greatest frustrations with CC. I actually criticize Maddon in the opposite direction for overmanaging his bullpen...CC is awful in the opposite direction. He gets too caught up trying to be overly efficient with his bullpen...and it's especially bad today with an off day tomorrow and a generally rested bullpen. I guarantee the Cubs would have gone to the bullpen sooner and had a better chance of staying in the game. It's obviously to everyone on the field that Chacin doesn't have it today...it's been obvious since the 1st inning.

I agree with that however shouldn’t they be able to read the signs? He’s showed that he was in pain both batting and in the field. He’s also missed pitches he typically handles. Not saying that doesn’t happen throughout the year but if you add it all up it shows that he was probably in quite a bit of pain.

He’s also bobbled a lot of plays and made a couple errors too. Just not looking right to us... how can they not see it

A split does feel disappointing after the great start. June has been very mediocre for the Brewers, but they remain 2 up on the Cubs and 4.5 on the Cards with a loss today.

 

In general, this 21-games in 20 days stretch will go a long way in determining how serious this team is. Lots of games against bad teams in there. If they go something like 13-8, I will feel really good about their ability to stick around.

 

A big part of it is going to be health. How dinged up are Cain and Shaw? The lineup looks really gross without those two in it.

 

How about an 8-run 5th, Brewers?

As nice as it would have been to put some space between us and the Cubs, it's a missed opportunity for them too to pull back with us. Works both ways.

 

Regardless, we need to start controlling the things we can control and play better baseball.

 

Won't be easy with all the injuries, but I'd like to see them strengthen their bench internally a little bit and stop hanging onto guys who have no business being on an MLB 25 man roster.

The thing that ticks me off with today’s game is allowing Weaver to get six innings in after making him throw 50+ pitches in the first two innings.
