Why did Lawrie stop playing after 2016? He was injury-prone but never bad.

Interesting reclamation project, possibly.

Looks pretty legit to me since it’s coming from him. He is a career .275 hitter against lefties and can play second or third. Could be the platoon option with Shaw at third? If it’s a major league deal, somebody might be on the move (Thames?).

Aguilar can be the everyday guy at first to start the year with Shaw getting time there if Aguilar struggles. Braun and Perez can play first as well if the need arises.

Holy smokes. Was just talking about Lawrie to my buddy the other day and we couldn't believe he hasn't played since 2016.

I'm just going to say I think the guy is a douche but maybe being out of MLB humbled him a bit.

This is the last article I have read that was written on his absence: The sad story of Brett Lawrie

Some strange comments from Lawrie in that radio interview.

I guessed Brett Lawrie last year in the Mystery 3B signing thread, I guess I was a year ahead of myself!

Not just “at Night” anymore.

#Brewers’ agreement with free-agent infielder Brett Lawrie is a minor-league deal with a club option for 2020, source tells The Athletic. The potential max value of the contract is $7 million.

It was a minor league deal. Includes an option for 2020 with a bunch of bonuses built in.

Adds some needed depth. If Shaw were to get hurt we wouldve been seeing even more Perez, Spangenber, and Saladino.

Appears to be a minors deal, so pretty much zero risk & some chance (albeit slim) of some sort of reward.

The talent was always there, if his body & head are right who knows? Still only 29 years young.

It would make a lot of sense to have a 2B/3B who favors LHP on the roster along with Perez to cover Spangenberg/Shaw.

Now that is pretty cool news! Love seeing a player with "something to prove" get a chance. Low risk high reward type move.

After a two year absence, I'm not sure we can expect much from a guy who was league average when he left. Still, it's a no-risk deal, so why not take a flyer...

Love it! Nothing to lose with this kind of signing...

What if he reaches the potential that so many thought he has, in a Brewers uniform, the team that originally drafted him?

NICE!

Wow. Watching some highlights from years past, he had some nice glovework at third. Any chance we have a trade with Shaw involved? Sign moose?

Since it's a minor league deal, no.

What a weird interview.. seems like what he needed was a sports psychologist more so than a doctor or specialist.

I read through it and I guess I don't really know what he was even trying to say. He could sound like a manure salesman with a mouthful of product if he can produce for the big league club.

Meh. Whatever.

One of the really great things about last year's team was the absence of knobs (other than maybe Braun).

Not a huge deal, but Lawrie is a class A knob.
