This is absolutely stunning because I watch a lot of games with the game cast on to see pitch location after the fact. He's had prolonged bouts of swinging at garbage for at least the last 3 years where he went in the tank. The moment he started taking bad pitches he got hot.

 

His OSwing% (% swung at pitch outside the zone) the last three years:

 

2017 38%

2018 36.3%

2019 38.9%

 

He's been above 36% since 2014.

so pre 2014...O-swing 31.7

Since 2014... O-swing 37.3

Career 34.2

 

Hasn't been since 2017... its been since 2014. That helps me feel less crazy.
