2019-08-10: Rangers (Payano) at Brewers (Houser) [Brewers win, 3-2]

I don’t see looking at the last 10 weeks of the season as cherry picking.

Over the last 10 weeks the Brewers have been bad. If it makes people feel better, I withdraw any argument that they have been “really bad”. I can’t say it makes me feel much better about the Brewers that the Pirates have been worse.

Maybe folks wouldn’t be so offended if I said that the Brewers are a mediocre team that has played bad (bordering on really bad) baseball for the last two months.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Well, they had a .500 June, a 12-13 July, and are 4-4 in August, and July has been their only losing month on the season, a month in which they were exactly one game below .500. I think "bad" has become synonymous with "not meeting expectations", and that's fair, but over their last 60 games the Brewers are playing .500 ball, and while not lighting the world on fire, I really feel like people are letting their expectations of what this club really was supposed to be color the facts. "Bad" is definitely subjective, so for my part, I'll say I think a club playing above .500 ball is not "bad", and let it drop.

If under .500 baseball is bad, I agree with you. It has been more ugly than anything, though. We haven't a pitcher to rely on, and half the team seems to be dealing with injuries.

I sometimes wonder if the daily line-up changes effect the hitters.

Do most teams vary their line-ups as much as we do? I mean, do we ever run the same line-up out there on back to back days?

I know that when I played high school ball, when the coach would throw out a different line-up, we hated it. I always liked to settle in at "my spot," just made me feel more comfortable.

...and another question? Why are the Brewers doing Grateful Dead tribute nights?

I don't remember Milwaukee being a Grateful Dead hotspot.

I have never understood the fascination with the band, in fact, I can't listen to them.

Tiny sample size, but I think Grisham likes the leadoff spot. 7-15 batting first, 1-11 not.

According to BRef the Brewers have used 98 different lineups this season (not including the pitcher)

Other NL contenders at 99 (LAD), 60 (ATL), 80 (WAS), 70 (PHI), 97 (NYM), 105 (CHI), 74 (STL) & 87 (ARI), so its kinda all over the place.

As for the Dead, the played a number of legendary shows at Alpine Valley...& some of their fans ever remeber some of them.

Reds-7 Cubs-0

Reds will be the Mets 2.0.

Bauer Castillo Gray Wood Mahle Declafani plus a pretty good pen. Lineup pretty strong too. Better than than the cards. There gonna be tough to beat.

Aquino has gone deep 3 times already tonight...that's 7 on the year in like 26 AB's.

Grisham is really fun to watch. Everything he does just resembles a veteran, not a guy with under 2 weeks of MLB experience. Baserunning instincts, plate discipline, and a pretty sweet swing and lots of hard contact.

While I don't expect him to match Hiura as an MLB hitter, I see no reason to think he isn't going to be a very good player in this league.

He doesn’t have Hiura’s power, but he’s every bit the hitter that Hiura is. And there’s no denying he’s sparked this offense.

Mad props to Grisham. It seemed like even though he was young for his leagues he just wasn't going to make it. I was dead wrong and glad about it. He is playing his way into core status.
