Nice win with some gift runs thrown in.

Now time to watch the Cubs and Cards. I will be hoping for the Cubs to lose (not rooting for the Cards) but will take a loss for the Cards as a consolation prize.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

My favorite line is just don’t be as bad as the other team

Also only one game back from idle nationals

I certainly had hope that they'd go on a run, but I agree that nothing this team has done this year indicated that they were capable of doing this. You hope that a few hitters get hot and carry you, but that hasn't even really happened so much. Instead it's been a true team effort, with what seems like two or three different guys taking the starring role every night, especially in this stretch since Yelich got hurt. This team is full of a bunch of also-rans with a few older stars, young'uns and secondary guys in their primes sprinkled in. And I know that it would be a mistake to overlook them in the playoffs.

Great piece of hitting by the "terrible" Trent Grisham.

Are people really calling him terrible?

Brewcrewin07 popped into the game thread yesterday for the first time in a month just to tell us how terrible Grisham is, and then bailed.

He was supposedly done posting for the year but couldn't quite honor his word...

And for all the crap brewcrew92 takes he was right about September. He was saying this team was going to take off

It's gonna be a long 3 years with old man Cain on this roster...

I think I’d rather have Braun than Cain the next three years

+1. Although I think they move him to LF, give him days off, and move him down in the order.

I don't know about that. If he has provided any value this year, it's top notch defense in CF. If he's not hobbled, I want him there. Plus the Brewers really have no good alternative in CF for the foreseeable future.

I'd hate to think about our line-up 6-8 if Cain continues to suck offensively...

6. Cain, 7. Pina and 8. Arcia and then the pitcher?

If we keep Arcia, Cain just plain has to be better with the bat. We can't run that crap out there daily.

Pina is a great back up catcher, but we already know his act doesn't play as the regular every day catcher.

I want a hitting SS next year, then we can breathe easier. (assuming of course that we still have Moose or a better option at 3B than Shaw.)

If we keep Grandal, that would help a ton. If Pina isn't our regular catcher, then it is just Cain and Arcia at the bottom along with the pitcher.

I hope we can find a way to keep both Moose and Grandal. I’m not sure how feasible it is, but both of them have been huge for us during this surge.

100% agree, but if that happens, I highly doubt we get any frontline pitching, relief or starting. We desperately need someone to pair up with Woodruff next year imo.

Good lord Kimbrel sucks. Good call on the no-sign

In what has been a heavily BABIP driven bad offensive year Cain still gave us over 1 WAR. That is 6.8 WAR so far which is worth roughly 5M per WAR he has given us like 34M in value so far out of 80M. It isn't hard to see a path to this contract working out to be honest. Lets just hope this is the down year and not the new level.

I think bWAR, which uses DRS for its fielding input, might do a better job capturing Cain's value. Last two years...

fWAR (6.8) UZR (+16.8)

bWAR (9.0) DRS (+39)

StatCast's Outs Above Average has him +35 the last two years, more in line with DRS.

In Black's defense now that I've seen the tape, he had Naylor struck out on the "checked" swing but another terrible call; he probably finishes easily if that's called right.
