I hope that doesn't happen. Fortunately that would require the Pirates sweeping the Reds. IDC how bad the Reds have been lately, you should be able to win one of those games.

Cards are tied with the reds in the loss column so I think technically the Cards would need to lose 3 before Friday as well.

The Brewers have a 14.0 division lead with 18 games remaining. Who would’ve ever thought the division would be wrapped up by mid-Craigtember.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

At this rate the Brewers might clinch before they get back home next weekend.

They can only clinch a tie, which I guess is clinching, but to me clinching is the outright win. So they will clinch against either the Cubs or the Cardinals almost certainly. At home. Which is awesome all around.

They could clinch if they win the two against the Tigers while the Reds and Cards get swept by the Pirates and Mets. Probably won’t happen.

I am still hoping that the magic number will be at 1 when we go to the game against the Cubs next Sunday. That isn’t out of the question: 2 wins by the Brewers and 2 losses by the Reds and Cards gets there. The best case would be the Brewers winning the next 4 while the Reds win their next 5 to improve their Wild Card standing and the Cards lose as many as possible.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

We only play 2 games before Friday. Even if we win both, still would need 3 losses in 4 days from the Reds. Certainly not impossible. I would prefer we clinch while at home. It's just a little more fun that way. Clinching on an off day just feels wrong.

Reds and Cardinals only play 3 times each before Friday. The would both have to get swept along with the Brewers winning both games. Extremely unlikely to have the correct result in 8 different games.

Our current magic numbers to be ahead of the NL East winners are:

NYM 2

Phi 3

Atl 8

To put things into perspective ATL's magic number is 16 to win their division. SF's magic number on us is 15.

Not going to overthink this one.

Edit: I really didn’t overthink it [or think it through at all], not quite yet…

I might be wrong on this, but isn’t the magic number still 5 until (if?) the Cardinals lose tonight? They still only have 69 losses (to 70 for the Reds).

Some premature subtractulation here.

The magic number to eliminate the Cardinals is still 5.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
