Hi, Cardinal fans reading this. That guy with the 3.41 season ERA who just pitched a 9 inning shutout against you is our 4th best starting pitcher.

4th.

Debatable that Ashby could be better. Houser as a 5 is incredible!

This makes the day feel a lot better after that Graham mertz debacle today

Magic number keeps dropping

Same here.

Although I kind of expected the Badger performance. Way over hyped.

Joe Jimenez ensuring it only goes down by 1 today. Every time I see that guy I'm stunned he still has an MLB job.

Man, re: Adames agrivating the hammy again...that's a real bummer. They didn't think it was serious before. I wonder if this is going to play out, for a spell, like Wong's calf?

How under the radar good has Houser been this season? An amazing step in his career trajectory. Flabbergasted is a word I would use.

He's always had the stuff to be a good MLB starter. Just needed to put the consistency together. Takes longer for some guys.

The starting pitching has been amazing this year...

Burnes 2.27 ERA

Woodruff 2.35 ERA

Peralta 2.70 ERA

Hauser 3.41 ERA

Lauer 3.43 ERA

Ashby 4.00 ERA

Anderson 4.18 ERA

That is crazy quality depth.

Absolutely true. The past couple years we've seen flashes. You knew he had a multi-pitch toolkit...he just lacked any stacking of success. Such a wonderful thing to witness growth and evolution in any athlete - they put so much work into their craft.

I expressly think back to a 3 game stint in August of 2019 when I thought: 'OK, this kid might turn a corner sometime.' I believe it was a STL, Washington, STL 3 game of effective starting pitching? His 2nd outing vs. the White Sox last year in the COVID hoopla. That was a good outing in an otherwise tough shortened season. I just, personally, never thought he'd actually find that consistency.

Mr. Houser, I salute you.

Absolutely. The thing I love about this? It will also ultimately bolster the entirety of the pitching staff come the (gulps) Playoffs. We get Freddy back on track? We can work Hauser, Lauer, Ashby, and Anderson into any combinations of Bullpen games.

Sidebar question: what happened to our most maligned COVID List Atlanta Hotel Room sufferer from Pittsburgh Jandel Gustave? Is he back in AAA? Still out of commission? I thought we might have had something there in our limited exposure. He had some heat and he had some movement.

He was just activated again today. He's here.

Awesome. Thanks. Gotta think he can take Topa's spot? Is that feasible if Topa was a September call-up?
