I'm 99% sure that the "Barry Sanders rule" is still in effect and a team can go to an arbitrator to have the player pay back the portion of the bonus that counted towards the remaining years on his contract which will then not count as "dead cap".

I'm 99.9% sure that this was discussed during the negotiations.

Yes but what are the odds that Rodgers wouldn't fight that and make it public?  That would be a very ugly situation for the Packers and Rodgers.  They probably already have a number that Rodgers will pay back but it is probably still a significant hit to the Packers cap.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers would like to re-sign cornerback Rasul Douglas but the team’s financial realities might have closed that door.

While there was interest in bringing back Douglas, that has tapered off, a source said on Tuesday evening. At this point, he’ll be available to sign with anyone when the league-year begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

More of the above via Bill Huber at SI here

Sighs. I truly love and loved Rasul Douglas' story. AND, I really really hope he has a chance to vie for CB3. He was so huge for the Pack last year. Can spot start whenever needed. He's just an impactful player.

He was a major reason for the defense’s success and a key contributor. But, if they choice was him or Campbell, they chose correctly.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. And, I don't disagree with you: Campbell is an incredibly important piece no doubt and is already #1 at his position on the depth chart and an All-Pro to boot. But, if we are looking at cap ramifications and why they are currently incapable of meeting Rasul's price I would think we should first look in the directions of Randall Cobb, Mason Crosby, and Marcedes. At least that is where I would look.

All this being said, it's hard to know given we don't know what he is seeking and we don't know what his Market is. Either way, I hope it proves untrue as he is just a very very likable Packer and played some amazing ball in the Green n Gold.

Exactly. I think it was one or the other. With Alexander and Stokes - Campbell is the selection.

To be fair, though, since it appears that Adams and Jaire extensions are unlikely by tomorrow afternoon, that’s likely where they’ll have to look JUST to get under the cap tomorrow. Hence, Rasul at least hits the FA market.

The term “all in” keeps getting thrown around.  Yes, they are all in financially, but this looks much different than the Rams all in.  We are jumping through hoops just to bring back most of our own guys from a team that didn’t get it done.  We’re not adding multiple big name FA to put us over the top.

I'm thinking an Amos contract restructure and Cobb cut winds up happening today to get them under the cap, then it would be great to get a new Adams deal and Jaire extension done in short order afterwards to free up some cap space to add a FA or two.  I also think some of those designated June 1 cuts will be announced soon - guys like Crosby, Lowry, Cobb (if he isn't cut today) would be likely candidates.

Rumor has it the Packers' latest contract offer to Adams got them much closer to that deal getting done - perhaps that gets inked right before the deadline to get them just under the cap with no more cuts, then any other releases they need to make to play in free agency would save them a bit more cap space by designating them as June 1 transactions.

Yep.  "All in" could mean $5 or $5M.  They really should call it going for broke.

I'm honestly expecting Cobb to get cut at 3:01 today if he's not cut this morning. They're probably waiting as long as possible to see if they can free up the other space they need by 2:59. I'd assume they'd strongly prefer to use a post June-1 designation for their allotted two guys after 3 pm. Crosby and Cobb would make a ton of sense in that regard, and would give them like $11 million in space. Those plus a 2022 cap-friendly extension for Adams and/or Jaire would likely let them make a legit swing at retaining Rasul and Tonyan.

From what I saw and read yesterday directly from Cobb's mouth: He expects to be a Packer on a different deal. The cut seems unlikely. I would show the quote here but I'm too lazy to go looking for it. Apologies.

It would appear we are, yet again, searching for a new Punter.

I have to agree with Bill here. After a great start, Bojo was fairly average and inconsistent. He struggled in the hold department. And, monster punts mean little if you can't locate consistently or outkick your coverage. Clearly, Bisaccia had a say in this as well.

Well, Packers are under the cap and no releases are reported on the official wire. Clearly, a restructure or extension are done but yet to be announced.

From SI it sounds like it was a cap issue as the Packers are looking for a cheaper alternative.  I thought he was a bright spot on the Special Teams, but considering the Packers 2021 ST was likely worse than all the CFL teams plus about 50% of the Division I NCAA teams it was probably just a relative impression.

RE: Douglas - being under the cap is a starting point.  There could be some post-June 1 cuts coming to spread cap hits over next two seasons.  I can't think of anyone who that would be significant for, but it's possible.  Also gives more time for negotiations for extensions to clear up more cap room.

good signing. Obviously there was a cost savings, but atleast he has cold weather experience and as you said, performed pretty well. Also nice that he was the bears holder, so they have that covered

I would say Pat O'Donnell has been a bit of a disappointment over his career.  He has been very pedestrian/average when he came in with big hype.  You can't have a nickname of Megapunt and not back that up with a big leg.  His 46.2 yard average last year was the second highest (47) of his career and he came in at 17th in the league.  I haven't seen the dollars, but not the worst either.

Bojorquez averaged 46.6 yds. without knowing the 2022 salary difference of the 2, I would be confident it would be more than to justify an extra .4 yds / punt.

Bojo cliffed after the weather got cold, and his holding clearly had at least a modest effect if not more on Crosby's issues last year. O'Donnell is an experienced cold-weather punter and has held for a pretty consistent kicker, so both of those things are plusses.

Doesn't seem to me like there will be much of a trade market for Love even if we want to deal with him. Indy clearly prefers Jimmy G, Pittsburgh already signed Mitch, Washington traded for Wentz, the Saints are likely to land Watson...and Winston is still available.  Not sure who is left that would be interested at the price we'd want.
