No way I'm laying down any money until I know that we have at least functional special teams.

Don't have to be great but they have to be at least functional and not the catastrophe that we've had for the last better part of a decade.

By that point you'll be getting worse odds.

The big question on defense for me is if they can find solid backups for Gary and Smith. It sounds like Enagbare and Kobe Jones have both flashed so far.

Those two and Garvin looked a lot thicker in the hips vs SF.

It'll be a tough call though because at times, Hamilton has apparently looked like the 3rd best, Tipa is by far the best STer, but doesn't have the size to set the edge. He is a slick and slippery edge rusher. Engabare is the most talented of this group and Jones(well, he looked good as well).

One thing that could REALLY make the roster spots kinda up in the air has been Quay Walker just dog walking Ryan Ramsczyk on a couple of plays while linin up on on the edge. So if he can play there, Carpenter, the way he looked in space? That could open up a safety spot as they may feel comfortable using Carpenter at LBer(I think he's a lock with his athletic ability to begin with).

Seem like we've got 2 obvious studs

Walker who COULD be one, but who's attention will be divided...and then a few guys who have talent, but are a bit up and down. A little Micah Parsons light down there.

They are better, they will be better. You wait for a bet until you know it's a good bet, it kinda defeats the purpose of betting.

Packers STs came down to poor coaching. They literally had DT's lined up a yard wide and a yard deep as wings on the FG unit and they blocked the outside man in(allowing a marginal safety to come through untouched).

Also...the Packer special teams failures the past decade have been greatly exaggerated by their terrible showing last year. A problem that could have been easily fixed if Matt LaFleur had more tenure and could have hired Rizzi when he was fired from the Dolphins. One of the top STs coaches in the league. Went to GB, wanted the job. Low-balled him with a job that would have made one of the best and a proven STs coached one of the lower paid in the league...and instead, they went with a Pettine guy.

This time around they went with the guy most people thought should have got the Raiders HEAD coaching job for what he did during one of the most dysfunctional seasons in NFL history, still getting them into the playoffs...and making him the highest paid STs coach.

The STs is better. Just by virtue of a coach who knows how to coach it they're better.

I've speculated that GB made a lot of promises and gave a lot more control to the new ST coach in order to get him to come here. He had a good showing in Oakland and wasn't all that bad as a HC, and so you'd figure he had a good few other job offers. If GB was going to keep things status quo, I don't think he would have chosen to come here and hurt his career to be yet another scapegoat for bad special teams play.

So is anyone taking odds on whatever new and interesting way Green Bay will find to choke in the playoffs this year?

They're overdo to uder-perform expectations. On paper, the team looks better to me than it's been in quite a while. The defense is looking like one of the best, they don't have a star WR, but other than that it's awfully hard to see a real liability on the team. Someone will get hurt. Let's hope it's just one guy and not catastrophic (QB).

I didn't see any of the first game. I think Love looks fine. Made some really nice throws and very athletic.

That was a very nice drive. Exactly what we're looking for. Efficient. Didn't force anything. Stretched that 3rd and goal play and almost made an incredible throw. More of that, please.

Love is dropping absolute dimes

Yes he is and adjusting to his mistakes from the first game.  His best pass so far may have been the one he dropped in to Doubs that was called back with I believe 4 saints around the ball.  That TD was just perfect placement and a nice jump and grab by Doubs.

Did you see how pristine Love put that ball in Goodson's breadbasket on that long run?

Anyone pretending that he doesn't look way better is lying to themselves to, strangely, convince themselves they are right. I dunno if he's going to Canton but I feel pretty confident about the odds of him getting the keys to lead a team (somewhere) eventually. I don't think he's Akili Smith or something.

That'll do

I've actually quite liked what I've seen in Ahmed since he replaced 'the other guy'. He's got a leg and so far, albeit in limited kicks obviously, he's been dead accurate. Nice to see.

This was a nice half of Minor Le...I mean Pre-Season football. Good stuff. Hopefully that Vernon Scott injury isn't too serious - his arm looked pretty mangled there.

I think it's safe to say Davis won't be making the team.

I can honestly say: I don't know if I've ever seen him not make a mistake while a Packer. Going back to the failed fingertip touchdown grab in Detroit last year (in a meaningless game). He drops balls, apparently he fumbles, and he draws penalties. I would have to agree with you here.
