Gallo

Whether you think the site's accurate or not, now's a fun time to look at what fan's are coming up with for trades on the BTV site: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/?team_filter=461

If some of these proposals are in the ballpark for what a Gallo trade will cost, I'm all for it:

I think Bettinger's prospect status has tanked, so I'd trade him. Robinson's prospect status has risen this year, so I'd rather keep him.

One thing that complicates this is that Jonathan Davis doesn't have any options remaining and has been outrighted before.  If the Brewers release him, given the dearth of CF options available and his performance this season, it's possible someone may claim him.  If Gallo continues to stink up the joint, then they may have to start the clock on Mitchell or Frelick early.  Mitchell doesn't have to be added to the 40-man until after next season, Frelick not until after the 2024 season but will likely be up in 2024, and since they likely won't break camp with the team next year will need to burn an option next year.  It also means one less person they can protect in the Rule 5 draft over the winter because they don't need to protect Mitchell or Frelick yet.

Moving/releasing Severino is an option, but teams like to have a 3rd catcher in September for PH/PR purposes and Severino can be a PH vs LHRP.  He also has one year of control left where Narvaez doesn't and will need him next year if they feel like Feliciano and Alex Jackson aren't the answer.

The Brewers need to be sure that Gallo is an upgrade as if he isn't it could have several ramifications on the team.

I doubt the 3rd catcher in September will be as much of a thing anymore with the rosters only going to 28. Either way, I think you're right that they don't want to move him as I don't see them signing a headliner to catch in '23 & aren't looking for Caratini to catch 125 games. Great opp for Feliciano next year if he can shore up his defense.

As for Gallo, it has to be a real strong belief in the change of scenery theory, he has to come real cheap (certainly wouldn't give them Robinson), & you might even want them to kick in some of his salary. That's a lot to ask for.

Brice Turang has played a little CF this year and could become an option for the big club. They might consider Turang either way, to fill the Jace Peterson role. Hopefully he stays hot and becomes a more exciting option.

Agree that if he has been passable in center at triple-A, Turang gets first crack. They have quite a few guys who could get added to the 40-man at year’s end, and Turang was getting a spot anyway.

It’s kind of funny in a way, the Yankees have in essence told Gallo he’s not good enough to play for them (a perennial  contender);  and posters here an in essence telling Cashman he’s wrong Gallo’s a good hitter and center fielder.

Just a slight difference between having Aaron Judge in CF and Tyrone Taylor/Jonathan Davis in CF.

After thinking about things about today, I guess I wouldn't be too upset if the Brewers were to acquire Gallo, assuming, of course, that we don't have to deal any major prospects for him.

For some reason, I sense a Matt Carpenter-esque resurgence from him on a different ball club.  He really can't be much worse than Jonathan Davis, right?  I mean, Gallo at least gets on base with some good base on balls skills.

Maybe I just have trade deadline fever and want to see the Brewers make some more moves.

Davis OBP is .365, admittedly in limited PAs. Not saying he's the answer or a savior or anything, but he's done quite a bit better than many on here thought he would, myself included. Think he deserves props for that.

For me, Gallo would have to come very, very cheaply--and from what I'm hearing, the Yanks won't go that low.

Surprising that the Yankees are getting back a legit prospect here. Beeter is good, and was a Comp balance pick just last year. Probably similar value to the just-traded Antoine Kelly.
